Oct 17, 2010Using VisualWebDeveloper 2010 on the development machine. All nice and fast.Using VisualWebDeveloper 2008 on the server. Server runs on Windows Server 2008 and has IIS 7.
It looks like that when 'table', a datatabe filled up in C# code behind, is getting longer, then the server (whether running the website on IIS or on the local host of VIsualWebDeveloper2008) is really slowing down. Checked it in debug mode and traced it down to
Adapter.Update(table);
Are there any know issues? Could it be that there is incompatibility between different version of SQL server or something like that? The update works, it is just awefully slow, but only on the server.

Oct 21, 2010I'm running a query that brings millions of records and makes the server run out of memory. I'm thinking I should get the data in chunks. So I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this or point me to another place where I can read further.
Currently, I just implemented "paging". I can now pass a "page index" parameter and "page size". So I could call 1,000 times the stored procedure with a page size of 1,000 (for 1 million records). This might be an option, but I wanted to hear someone else's opinion on how to "stream" records from oracle to the web server and then to a file.

May 20, 2010I need to insert a record in table which is in remote server....I am using two connection strings for local and remote....both the servers are in same workgroup only...so am able to connect the both.The problem is am filling data of local table in on dataset1 and remote server table data in another dataset dataset2..Now whil inserting a record local an error occured like "This row already belongs to another table" after googlingI found like this like "Dataset.importrow()" instead of "dataset.add()" method...then there is no errors but the inserted record is not inserting in remote server database...

Note: I was able to connect to both of these ftp through filezilla, via a webbrowser, and through windows command line.
Use HttpResponse.End() For A Fast Webapp?
May 30, 2010HttpResponse.End() seems to throw an exception according to msdn.Right now i have the choice of returning a value to say end thread(it only goes 2 functions deep) or i can call end().
I know that throwing exceptions is significantly slower (read the comment for a C#/.NET test) so if i want a fast webapp should i consider not calling it when it is trivially easy to not call it?
-edit- I do have a function call in certain functions and in the constructor in classes to ensure the user is logged in.So i call HttpResponse.End() in enough places although hopefully in regular site usage it doesn't occur too often.

I have noticed a significant difference in speed between ASP.NET MVC and ASP.NET webforms. MVC is a lot snappier and loads pages faster than webforms. Can I achieve the same with ASP.NET webforms by optimizing it? If yes, what would you recommend?

I want the user to be able to cancel the action if desired. When I call the Close() method on the connection, it takes a good 2 - 3 minutes to close the connection, and then the thread aborts. Is there some way I can get the connection to close faster?
