Built Assembly Not Matching Source When Debugging Under IIS 7.5
Mar 31, 2011
I have a problem debugging a web forms application that is configured to use IIS for debugging, under Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2010. An example has just occurred, where I make a change to the code behind for a web form, save, and apparently rebuild before starting the app using F5. The app starts, and I get an error message trying to do something in the app. I tell the debugger to break when an exception is thrown and try my task again, only to be told The source file is different from when the module was built. where the module is C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files oot9d7b45ca11a98b19assemblydl35e6cf0b2636409d4_dfeecb01PerfixEMS_Admin.DLL
The physical folder for my test web site is set to the web application project's source folder, so I have always assumed that IIS will look in the bin folder for required assemblies, and these will be rebuilt as expected. Why is this not happening?

I have recently discovered that I am affected by this bug http://www.mail-archive.com/mono-bugs@lists.ximian.com/msg71515.html
Well,at http://www.mail-archive.com/mono-bugs@lists.ximian.com/msg71529.html they say the work around is to create a global policy assembly and redirect the assemblies that way since it is not read from the web.config.
How do you actually do what they describe there? There is a huge documentation gap in that area with Mono. Also,I can't just recompile the assembly to use the new Mono assembly versions because the assembly is closed source.(but it does work with Mono.)

I am working on an application built using ASP.NET 1.1 but that invokes services built in ASP.NET 2.0.
Attempts to debug my code by setting a breakpoint and attaching the w3wp.exe process fail because IIS is running under ASP.NET 2.0.
If I select ASP.NET 1.1 as the version in IIS then debugging works, but the calls to the 2.0 services (which are everywhere) causes the page to crash.
Does anyone have a solution/workaround to this problem?

I have Windows Server 2008 (64-bit), VS 2008 with its built-in webserver and an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 webapp. All I'm trying to do is to debug said app. I have a bunch of breakpoints, but they behave in a very strange way. When I fist start a debugging session with F5 and hit a breakpoint, the debugger stops just fine. However, after serveral F10s/F11s debugging suddenly "stops" (no exceptions at that time), but neither VS detaches from browsers' process, nor webapp execution stops: Visual Studio stays attached, and web request continues executing as usual.I tried various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE), but to no avail.

I created an asp.net application, and it worked on my local PC. I was using Visual Web Developer 2010 beta.
Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. Could not load file or assembly 'dave' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded Does this mean my version of the net.framework is too advanced? Or maybe the version of Visual Web Developer? Or some other reason?

I have my project made from my pc and when I tried to open the solution from other computer, change the connectionStrings and run it. I'm receiving a message:
The source file is different from when the module was built. Would you like the debugger to use it anyway?
This appear when the program try to run my class, SqlHelper.vb. And when I select Yes, the program still uses the old SqlHelper.vb class (with the old connectionString).

Not sure why this is happening. Every time I try to debug an Asp.Net page it will eventually go into assembly code showing
the following lines on the top:
AjaxControlToolkit.ExtenderControlBase.OnLoad(System.EventArgs)
--- C:UsersswaltherProjectsAspNetAjaxReleases30930AjaxControlToolkitSourceAjaxControlToolkitExtenderBaseExtenderControlBase.cs
00000000 push ebp 00000001
mov ebp,esp 00000003
etc...
I do have this line in page and that was never changed:

I've searched but does Visual Studio 2008 have a setting for C# where it will autoformat/beautify my code as I write it? There is a setting for VB.NET called "prettify". I've also searched the archives already and found a macro to execute this on save and I know I can drag and drop it onto the toolbar but I want it to work without my doing ANYTHING for both ASPX and CS files.
Is this possible via built-in setting, modification, or available from an add on?

I'm testing code similar to the example [URL]
However, if I have the source code, shouldn't I be able to debug it to step through and see what's going on? The debugger stops on the page that is consuming the control but I thought as long as I have the source it would stop at breakpoints in the custom control as well.

I'm running into a weird issue that I can't find an answer for anywhere I've looked (and I've looked a ton).I built a web deployment project with Visual Studio 2008 Team System on my old Win XP machine. This has always worked flawlessly and installed everywhere. I can also copy this MSI to my new Windows 7 Ultimate machine and it again installs just fine.
HOWEVER, when I rebuild that exact same web deployment project on my new Win7 machine, also using VS2008, the MSI will build OK, but when I then run it to install my software I get a dialog box telling me "the installer was interrupted." Interestingly, when I built this MSI in my new environment one additional warning popped up during the build process, which was "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'"After many searches and reading different web pages, I know this has to do with these two registry keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0DeploymentSchema]
"DefaultMSISchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msi"
"DefaultMSMSchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msm"
Yet, everything checks out. All permissions are correctly configured, etc., etc. Then, when I enable the built-in administrator account and log in as that, and then rebuild this same web deployment MSI the "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'" warning no longer appears. Then when I log back out, log back in as myself and then run this newly built MSI it installs fine, just like the original one that was built on XP.I also tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing it as the super user, but that also didn't change anything. And yes, I did also configure devenv.exe to run as administrator.
Has anybody seen this? Or is it a requirement that you can only compile deployment projects as the super user? That cannot be right.I've been thrashing for more than five days and for the life of me cannot figure this out. Of course, I can run as the super user when developing, but I thought the new security model in Win7 was designed exactly so you don't have to.

I'm trying to debug my web application on my localhost machine in Visual Studio 2010 and I keep getting this error: "unable to start debugging on web server. The Microsoft Visual Studio remote debugging monitor(MSVSMON.exe) does not appear to be running on the remote computer."
Is there a way I can turn this off as I'm not trying to make any attempts debugging remotely.

Before using any class in your website project/page we have to add it's assembly reference to our project. Right?
Now, when I am using SmtpClient class from System.Net assembly after adding the System.Net.Mail namespace in namespace node of application's web.config file but without adding assembly reference to the project, it still accepting and running the code. Why?
I enquired the machine's web.config file located at C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIG but didnt find assembly reference for System.Net there also.
So bit confused how it is working and where the assembly reference has been added and how?

I am running Visual Studio 2010 (as Admin), IIS 7 on Windows 7 x64. I am able to run the ASP.NET web site in IIS 7 without debugging just fine, but when I press F5 to debug it, I get: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Could not start ASP.NET debugging. More information may be available by starting the project without debugging. Unfortunately the help link is not helping me much and leads down a heck of a large tree of things. I checked the following:
Security requirements — I don't recall having to do anything special before. The worker process in IIS7 is w3wp.exe. It says that if it's running as ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE I must have Administrator privileges to debug it. How do I find out if I need to change something here? Web site Property Pages > Start Options > Debuggers > ASP.NET is checked. Use custom server is set to the URL of the site (which works fine without debugging). Debugging is enabled in web.config. Application is using ASP.NET 3.5 (I want to move to 4.0 eventually but I have some migration to deal with). Application pool: Classing .NET AppPool (also tried DefaultAppPool). Surely it shouldn't be that hard to install IIS, VS, create a web site, and start testing it?

I just want to create Shared Assembly and use that assembly in our application.I am using VS 2005.
Step 1
I am trying to build a dll.
Create class library project <TestDllHell>.
Under that project add CalculationArea.cs file.
[Code]....
Then TestDllHell.dll add into GAC successfully.
Now I want to use it in my Website project so did the following steps but unable to view that dll in .Net Reference List Box.
•I go for Run regedit to edit the Windows Registry.
•Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft.NETFrameworkAssemblyFolders key.
•Right click on the AssemblyFolders key, then select New > Key. Enter the name of your assembly (without the .dll extension).
•Double click on the key's (Default) value. The Edit String dialog will appear. Enter the full path of the folder where your assembly resides. Note that all assemblies in that folder will appear in the Visual Studio list.
•IMPORTANT! You must exit and restart Visual Studio to see your assembly in the Add Reference dialog.
My question is that
How can I get that dll in my add reference assembly List .Net section?
And if I modify that dll(TestDllHell.dll) then again register in GAC then version will be different,So how can I told my client application that which dll you choose?

im creating a class library, and adding all the necessary references for the source files contained in it.
Now, off the bat, there were over 300 compiler errors complaining about missing namespaces.
The library will now compile after i just added all of the System.* references, however this is obviously not the best way.
I.e. if a classes needs using System.Web.Script;, there is no System.Web.Script reference, how would i find out which one of these references contained it? System.Web didnt.

I've been trying to setup the routing table for the urls on one of the website I'm moving across to the MVC framework. We are aiming to setup urls like:
www.site.com/sports/cycling - which is the topical page for cycling and listing all the cycling events
www.site.com/sports/cycling/road-race - which is details about the "road-race" cycling event. We have setup the following routes in global.asax:
routes.MapRoute(
"SportEvent", // Route name
"sports/{sport}/{sportevent}", // URL with parameters
[code]...
We have tried this and also run it through the Route Tester and only the second route table is pick matching. The first url (www.site.com/sports/cycling) is being matched correctly, but the second url (www.site.com/sports/cycling/road-race) does not match up correctly and doesn't match the sports event action.Have I missed an item that is required in the route table for this to work?Or is there changes that I need to make to the route table in global.asax to get this to match and work correctly?
