C# - Webservice Complex Types And Class Inheritance - Use The Properties Of The Base Class?

Mar 13, 2010

Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:

[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]
public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService {
[WebMethod]
public void save_client(aClientArgs client)
{
// Save client data
}
}
Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class:
public class aArgs
{
public string id = null;
public string name = null;
}
public class aClientArgs : aArgs
{
public string address = null;
public string website = null;
}
Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>
When I'm expecting the following:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<id>string</id>
<name>string</name>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>

So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?

DataSource Controls :: EntityFramework Base Class Inheritance?

Feb 11, 2010

I am having some issues with my base class inheritance. I am currently employing Table per Type Inheritance for the following tables:

Database:

Members Table

- Member ID (PK)

- First Name

- Last Name

- Email

- ...

Students Table

- Member ID (FK)

- Credits

- Notes

- ...

Instructors Table

- Member ID (FK)

- Biography

- Office Hours

- ...

My Entity Data Model defines "Member" as the base class for both Students and Instructors, since members can be both students as well as instructors simultaneously. The problem, however, occurs when I attempt to get a list of Members objects. Because the database contains members who are indeed students AND instructors, the following exception is thrown:

All objects in the EntitySet 'CountyCollegeEntities.BaseMembers' must have unique primary keys. However, an instance of type 'CountyCollege.NET.Administrator' and an instance of type 'CountyCollege.NET.Student' both have the same primary key value, 'EntitySet=BaseMembers;ID=10016'.

I am beginning to think that I made a mistake by building these classes to inherit from Member although it has been ideal up until this point. But before I start ripping up all my existing code to remove this inheritance, I thought I would see if anyone has any tricks that would make this work. Any advice as to either how I can get around this error or a more appropriate way to structure my classes would be very much appreciated.

Security :: Built-in Membership Framework And Has Implemented Own Provider By Creating A Class That Inherits From MembershipProvider?

Jan 23, 2011

used the built-in Membership framework and has implemented his own provider by creating a class that inherits from MembershipProvider (found in System.Web.Security). I actually went ahead and created a custom provider which inherits from MembershipProvider. The problem is that there are several methods I do not really need. Also, the schema is totally different. Plus, most methods return a MembershipUser which means my User class has to inherit from it as well. So really, what benefits does the MembershipProvider and the whole Membership framework add to my system? Do these benefits justify the fact that I won't be using most of the methods on the class?

VS 2008 Web Deployment MSI Built On XP Works Fine, But MSI Built On Windows 7 Does Not Work?

Mar 24, 2010

I'm running into a weird issue that I can't find an answer for anywhere I've looked (and I've looked a ton).I built a web deployment project with Visual Studio 2008 Team System on my old Win XP machine. This has always worked flawlessly and installed everywhere. I can also copy this MSI to my new Windows 7 Ultimate machine and it again installs just fine.

HOWEVER, when I rebuild that exact same web deployment project on my new Win7 machine, also using VS2008, the MSI will build OK, but when I then run it to install my software I get a dialog box telling me "the installer was interrupted." Interestingly, when I built this MSI in my new environment one additional warning popped up during the build process, which was "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'"After many searches and reading different web pages, I know this has to do with these two registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0DeploymentSchema]
"DefaultMSISchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msi"
"DefaultMSMSchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msm"

Yet, everything checks out. All permissions are correctly configured, etc., etc.Then, when I enable the built-in administrator account and log in as that, and then rebuild this same web deployment MSI the "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'" warning no longer appears. Then when I log back out, log back in as myself and then run this newly built MSI it installs fine, just like the original one that was built on XP.I also tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing it as the super user, but that also didn't change anything. And yes, I did also configure devenv.exe to run as administrator.

Has anybody seen this? Or is it a requirement that you can only compile deployment projects as the super user? That cannot be right.I've been thrashing for more than five days and for the life of me cannot figure this out. Of course, I can run as the super user when developing, but I thought the new security model in Win7 was designed exactly so you don't have to.

Putting A Function In Class Instead Of Code Behind?

Jan 7, 2011

I have a function in a code behind file that's used to respond to a gridview event:

protected void GridviewEval(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
foreach (TableCell cell in e.Row.Cells)
{
if (cell.Text == "0") { cell.Text = "-"; }
}
}
}
It's currently in the code behind of a page and I'll be using it in other other pages.I would like to use the same code in other pages.When I cut and paste the function into a class,it's not working.

Web Forms :: How To Write A Function To Return A CSS Class Name

Jan 24, 2010

I'm new to C# and ASP and can't seem to figure out how to write a function to return a CSS Class name.

Here's what I have so far:

In "MyWeb.master" I have a line that reads:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" text="xxxxx"
cssClass='<%# MyCssStyle("ddd") %>'
NavigateUrl="http://www.RDRR.com/Catalog.aspx?TribeID=1"
runat="server" />

And in "MyWeb.master.cs" I have a routine within the partial class that reads:

public string MyCssStyle(string myInput)
{
myInput = "NavigationBarUnselected";
return myInput;
}

This code does not throw an error, but neither does it return a value. What have I missed?

Security :: Add Delete Function To 2nd Class File?

Jan 7, 2011

We are using ASP security on the site, i found months back a tutorial on implementing a pretty simple management page that allows you to create, edit, delete and add roles as well as adding users to roles from 1 page..

It has been working fine, but we added our own security matrix to the site, everything that has to do with the ASP side of the security works as expected and no issues or concerns.. but with our matrix in place, i need to tie the 2 together for 1 thing.. the deleting of a user..

The delete function works great.. but i would like to add my delete to that function so that the users security matrix is deleted as well when their account is done.

Within the class that is handling all the membership functionality, there is this portion tha handles the deleting, i would like to add a call to my class that has the delete method so that when you click delete, the membership account as well as the matrix record is deleted. Since the delete is already setup within my 2nd class, how can i call it to execute it from within the first class?

C# - Reference An ASP Control Inside A Function Or Class Method?

Oct 7, 2010

How do you reference an asp.net control on your page inside a function or a class.
private void PageLoad(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//An example control from my page is txtUserName
ChangeText(ref txtUserName, "Hello World");
}
private void ChangeText(ref HtmlGenericControl control, string text)
{
control.InnerText = text;
}
Will this actually change the text of the txtUserName control?
I tried this and is working
private void PageLoad(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ChangeText(txtUserName, "Hello World");
}
private void ChangeText(TextBox control, string text)
{
control.Text = text;
}

Function To Send An Entire Class To A Store Procedure?

Jul 13, 2010

I have been working a in a function to send all the properties of a class to a store procedure in any DB. I made it work when i define the specific class in the declaration of the function like this:

protected Boolean LoadDataDB(Class1 objClass1,Type t,String StoreProc)

But what i want is to make this function as generic as posible. I thought on replace the "Class1 objClass1" part with something like "object obj" but it didn't work. If Ipull this of, it will be very usefull for me. Up next i'm copying what i have so far.

[Code]....

The error appears in the wrap.AddInParameter line, in the following code:

objeto[Prop.Name.ToString()]

And it says something like "Can not apply indexing with [] to an expression of type object"
