I am binding some data to control, but want to limit the number of character of a specific field to a 30 first characters. I want to do it, if it's possible, on aspx page.
I tried this:

I need to pull a SubString from a Linq Datasource, but can't use INTs per .SubString(int, int) I have strings such as xxxx.xxxx.xxxxx.AAAA.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxx and I need to pull AAAA out. the preceeding x's will be varying lengths, so I can't use a static int. I have an intranet application which I have been putting together with ASP.NET. I have been using VWD 2010 Beta 2 which has been fine so far. But when I go to deploy the work i've done so far to a local IIS a variable which is supposed to be; being filled with the value from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name is not being filled i.e. an error occurs when substring goes out of bounds. I believe it is because the HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name is not putting a value into the string variable 'username'. But it is quite strange as when I run the website project within VWD 2010 it works fine without any errors. IIS is set to Integrated Windows Authentication and Annonomous Users are allowed.

I have a gridview that has a field called TargetDate which is formatted as dd/mm/yyyy. I want to substring the numbers out of the date. So basically remove the '/'. How do I do that? can't just substring(0,2) because sometimes the date is single digits, sometimes 2 digits. I am using vb.net.

When I comment to this column while binding, my grid is working fine and showing all next records.

I'm having some evils trying to get my GridView control to behave. I have the below code, which successfully displays all the files in the directory. However I require two changes, both of which I am struggling with:
a) Currently the URL you get when clicking on the URL field is [URL] (ie my home directory with the filename). What I require is that the 'Display Text' be the filename only, and the URL be my desired text followed by the filename eg: [URL]
b) I want only to see the files that start with a certain prefix eg "Pay". I can do that with something like: string[] filelist = Directory.GetFiles((@"C:MFData","Pay*.*"); but this doesn't like to bind to my Gridview!

I have a repository that contains all of my LINQ queries for this project that I am working on. I am able to get the LINQ results to a DataTable and bind that to a gridview for displaying the data. Now I need to make the gridview sortable. I have set AllowSorting="true" and I have the OnSort event handled in a routine in the codebehind.
