C# - Load Template From Embedded Resource?
Oct 15, 2010How can I load an embedded resource as an ITemplate? The LoadTemplate() method only takes a string virtual path, and obviously this will not work for embedded resources.

I am creating a library of user controls(grids, buttons, etc.) that are common among all of our web projects. I have included several common javascript files used by the controls by adding them as an embedded resource and registering them as a resource using RegisterClientScriptResource. Everything works great.
However, the last thing I would like to do is embed skin files in this project so that all the controls have the same look. I know I can control look solely with css, but I would like to control some of the other asp attributes as well(ie AllowSorting and AllowPaging attributes of a grid). Is it possible to embed skin files as a resource? Or will each individial project need a copy of the skin file? If anyone could provide insight on how I can go about embedding a skin file..

Aug 26, 2010I'm trying to localize an asp.net web application. Consider the following asp.net code. I'm running with CurrentCulture and CurrentUICulture set to German ("DE-DE").

I expect these two lines to yield the same result, but instead I get this:

In other words, the first syntax <%= ReportTitles.EndOfDay %>successfully retrieves the value from the ReportTitles.de.resx file we're using, but the second syntax <asp:Literal ID="litLabel" runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:ReportTitles, EndOfDay %>"/>
gets the value out of the default US English ReportTitles.resx file.
How To Localize A Non Embedded Javascript File With Resource

Jul 4, 2010My objective is to include a JavaScript file in my Custom Server Control, because it's a bit tedious writing all the JS in C#. I've done a lot of searching and most resources seem to say that I need to add the file as an embedded resource, and access that. I found a few pages describing how to do this:

They all seem to say I need to, after adding the JS file, change the build action to 'embedded resource' through its properties. However, the only properties I can actually see on the file are 'File Name' and 'File Path'. Right clicking the file in the solution explorer doesn't allow me access to properties, and right clicking (as one of those links suggests) anywhere else doesn't expose it either. I tried looking through VS Options but couldn't find anything, although I get the impression that I have something configured wrong that's not allowing me to see as many properties as I should be able to.

Nov 3, 2010Does precompilation have any effect on XML files? i.e. can I obscure/protect xml files using precompilation? I assume that it has no effect as they aren't code.
If I use XML files as Embedded Resources, they appear in the DLL in a text editor as normal text. If the dll is edited and saved using a text editor, will it still work if it is unsigned?
C# - Programmatically Modifying An Embedded Resource Before Registering / Referencing It On The Page
Mar 5, 2010Firstly, "Modifying" may be the wrong term, I see a few people have posted online just asking whether they can actually modify an embedded resource. What I am wanting to to, is use a resource in my assembly as a kind of template which I would do a find and replace on before registering it on the page - is this possible?
For example; say I have a few lines of jQuery as an embedded resource in my assembly and in this script I am referencing a CSS class name that can be set by the front-end programmer. Since I do not know what the CSS class will be until implementation, is there a way of going through the embedded resource and replacing, say, $myclass$ with ThisClassName.

ScriptReferences java script file does the client-side work, there I want to load a html file inside iFrame.
The Html file is an embedded resource:

I pass the path of the html to the javascript file via descriptor property:

Where iframe is a string that contains the path from the webresource.
Now, in this html file I want to display few images that must be also loaded from resource.
The Question is how to access the resources from this html file?
Do I have to pass every image path as descriptor property?

Aug 18, 2010i use vs 2010 ultimate. i created a 'asp.net web application' from scratch, right clicked app_data and added a new sql server database (named MyDB), built two tables and saved it, added a 'ado.net entity model' to my project(named EDM_MyDB). then i dragged and dropped a 'list view' and 'entity data source' on my default.aspx. i tried to configure my 'entity data source' instance. in configuration window, underconnection string i tried to choose my entity instance (which i'd created before) but suddenly a popup message came up and said: The metadata specified in the connection string couldn't be loaded. Consider rebuilding the web project to build assemblies that may contain data. The following error(s) occurred: Unable to load the specified metadata resource.here is my whole connection string tab:

Oct 26, 2010I have just deployed my ASP.NET MVC 2 application using EF 4 and I am getting the following error:
Unable to load the specified metadata resource.
On my local machine it runs fine with no errors. This error only comes now when I deployed to the server. I have my enity data model file in MyProject.EntityModel. I used the POCO entity generator to separate my context and entities. These 2 are in another project called MyProject.Entities. I have the connection strings in the app.config in the 2 projects exactly the same. The connection string in the web.config in my MVC app is also the same. I'm not sure why this is giving me issues? I'm also running the app in IIS (that comes with Windows 7) and it works fine. The IIS version on the server is 6 (I think). Here is the full error message:

Now the problem is, its a product and each user wants to have their own translations.For Example there is a text say "Home"Some users want to say it "Home Page" and some wants to say "Main Page"
Is there any possibility to do create different resource files, for each users, for each page and then load them according to the user currently logged in?

Within CaseStudyFeaturedItem is it possible to load a template which is an embedded resource and then access the controls on that control?
So essentially, I have usercontrol.ascx which is an embedded resource so has a string like:
mynamespace.myclass.usercontrol.ascx;
And from within CaseStudyFeaturedItem I want to be able to load that usercontrol and then modify the controls (i.e. literals/labels) that are within it?

I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

Dec 4, 2010Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.
