C# - Maintain Generic List Between Postbacks?

Sep 14, 2010

Here is what is in my code-behind:

List<Event> events = new List<Event>();
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
protected void AddEvent_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Event ev = new Event();
ev.Name = txtName.Text;
events.Add(ev);
}

I want to add an item to the list every time the Add button is clicked, but the list is reset after every postback. How can I keep the data in the list between postbacks?

JQuery - How To Maintain The State Of Hidden UI Elements Across Postbacks

Jan 17, 2011

I'm working on a webform with various controls. Depending on user-input I show/hide (using JQuery's show()/hide() functions) bits of the GUI. However if the form is posted-back and fails validation, I want the GUI to remain in the same state it was pre-postback rather than returning to the first-load state. Obviously the ASP.Net controls retain state, but I have HTML containers that are pure client-side objects.

In attempting to design a solution I find myself heading towards the murky (and tricky-to-debug) realms of hidden form fields - more reminiscent of my pre-JQuery work than anything 21st Century :-(

How To Maintain Button State In On_Load On AJAX Timer Postbacks

Nov 14, 2010

I am developing a web part that uses AJAX Timer and Update Panel to perform some data check. There are two buttons outside the Update Panel on the web part that I also want to maintain during the Timer postback. I cannot put these two buttons in any UpdatePanel because they need to call Response.Write() to display some Excel data to users in their On_Click event. My current solution is using ViewState to maintain these two button in On_Load event. However, I am not sure if this is a correct solution (haven't tested it). Does any one know that during a Timer postback, if I disable/enable these two buttons using ViewState in On_Load, will it update the page properly with the two buttons disabled/enabled? Or will it ignore any control that are not in the UpdatePanel regardless where you maintain it? If my solution is not a good practice, can someone suggest other alternatives?

State Management :: Persisting DropDown List Attributes Across Page Postbacks?

Oct 12, 2010

how can DropDownList attributes be persisted accross page Postbacks?

Example:

DropdownList1.AutoPostBack = True
DropdownList1.items(0).Attributes.Add("Attribute1","somevalue")

On Postback the attribute is no longer available (ie. attributes.count=0).

I tried persisting using the code below, but was unsuccessful:

Before PostBack: ViewState.Add("DDL","DropdownList1")
On PostBack: DropdownList1 = ViewState("DDL")

This generated the error: DropDownlist is not marked as serializable.

I than tried:

Before PostBack: Session.Add("DDL","DropdownList1")
On PostBack: DropdownList1 = Session("DDL")

This did not err but attributes were still not available.

Trying To Use .Contains For Generic List

Jan 3, 2011

I have a list view control. Each row within it has a rowid and a textbox where a note(user enters relevant info to that particular record) is entered. On a paging event I store the rowID and the note text in a generic list for retrieval if the user pages back later on. Goal here is to keep the text the user has entered. (see the code below)This generic list does in fact get populated correctly when I go to the next page currently. I can see this in Visual Studio. So now, when the user goes back to the first page I want to run a test within my Listviews ItemDataBound event. I want to see if the row ID being tested is part of the generic list. If so, I then want to take the corresponding note that is also within the list and bind it to the text box. However, I don't know how to write the correct conditional for this and how to bind the textbox if the conditional evaluates to true.

Generic List - Remove Function Not Working

Feb 9, 2010

I have a generic list which contains a class called Parameter. Parameter contains 2 integers, ParamType and ParamValue. A generic list is built containing a small number of values List<Parameter> myList I have created a function which passes in 2 parameters. These are passed individually but are used to create a new Parameter within the function. The Parameter is tested against myList, and if it is found removed. In order to do this I have used the remove function, the syntax being:

myList.Remove(new Parameter(ParamType, ParamValue));

The remove isn't working and at present I'm using LINQ to do it.
