View 2 Replies i have a gridview bound to sql datasource with template fields binding the columns. I have set the Header Style to a css class. I have 3 columns not bound to data as Add, Edit and Delete. When I set the text color to white for the header only the non bound columns go white. The bound columns are BLUE like hyperlink. Any one know a way round this. (If I set the style in the gridview the all columns are white. Want to set in external css file).

I recieved a page to make some changes, and one of them is to change the hearders of a DataGrid. I'll have to merge some collumns.

I Have a table containing columns Address1,Address2,Address3,State,City and Area.Now i want to apply search Location where there will be a single textbox where the user can enter multiple strings seperated by spaces and then those rows should be fetched which contains all these strings entered by the user (implementing AND Case). For which the search on rows should be applied by merging the data of all the above mentioned columns and then searched.How to implement the above case?
View 12 RepliesI need to freeze my gridview header and the first two columns. I found a great jquery plugin called tinytbl which does the job but it messes up the inline javascript on my page which causes a few issues.
Any better way to freeze columns? I see alot of examples on the net using css but they use expression which has been deprecated.

I have a gridview control which gets data from database. One of the column is a checkbox and based on the value of the checkbox, I need to display 2 more columns. Currently I am having 2 issues:
1. I am able to achieve this when OnDataBound event gets triggered. Basically I am checking the row state and type and if it is in Normal mode I check the status of the checkbox and based on the status I am setting the style on the columns I want to hide (columns contain checkboxes). But for some reason, I am not able to hide the header. The GridView shows the header but the text boxes which are in the columns are hidden.
2. During Edit mode, I have attached a javascript to the checkbox and when the status of the checkbox changes, it hide/unhides the columns, again header cannot be made hidden. Also, if I use the Visible property of the header, I can make the header invisibly (only using the code behind) but when javascript is invoked on the checkbox during edit mode, it cannot find the controls as they are not visible and hence does not do anything. Since TemplateField does not support style property I can't even set the style["display"].
There are many repeat code in the two functions, could you tell me how to merger two functions into one function?

I have a Gridview where I want to handle the Sorting in a custom control that I've added to the header.
I've added this control to my GridView's Header via OnRowCreate event handling. I want the Sort Expressions to persist session to session (via Webparts Personalization)
Here is what I have for adding the custom header control to the GridView Header
[Code]....
This works out well for adding the control, but I can't get anything to persist because these controls are creating initially via postback (per the event) and re-created on all subsequent postbacks. I can't add an If(!IsPostback) because the controls are initially created on the gridview's postback (well at least thats how it's acting when I put it in there) If I were to add this control via the ASP page, not via the Codebehind, I would be able to persist the control. If I try to treat it as though everything is setup correctly, and assign my custom control's controls to [Personalizable], I get a runtime error telling me that I can only have webpartzones in or before Page_init (I'm guessing this is due to when/where the
gridview hits the OnRowCreate event). If there is some fundimental logic I'm missing, or best practices that I'm moving away from,
is there anyway i can add in the gridview in header column name a button instead of label ?
column name 1 column name 2 column name 3 button
i am using checkbox column in item template for the button ,i wish after selecting checkbox for some row to click on the button on the header !!
I am using the following code to change the header based on the session variable

View 2 RepliesI am pulling information from two different databases (structure is the same) and putting them into two datatables. The problem I am having is figuring how to merge the data togther in a single gridview and change cell background color for only the data in the second datatable.

I merged my website tables with ASPNET.db tables using aspregedit.exe. Problem is the user id in aspnetdb user table differs from userid in website table in datatype. One is Uniqueidentifier and the other int. I tried changing the datatypes accordingly, but unsuccessfully. Do I have no option than to re create all my website tables to match the data type in aspnet.db database?
UserId in custom website table is int. UserId in aspnetdb is uniqueidetifier. UserId in custom website database is the primary key and FK in more than one tables, so thats extensively used in the custom database.
i have a datalist .
i used an object datasource to show data in datalist .

I have a GridView that has several dynamic columns (I do not know how many at design time and it could be 0-12 columns, hence need for dynamic columns). I have the columns in the grid and data bound to them - works great. There are other standard, design-time TemplateField columns with TextBox controls in them. These are bound with values that the user can edit. The grid is posted back via a Submit button. My question is "Why does gv.Columns.Insert() cause all my TextBox data to be null on Postback, but gv.Columns.Add() works like a champ?"
protected void BuildColumns()
{
// The first column to begin to insert the columns in the GridView
int columnIndex = 5;
BoundField aoColumn = new BoundField();
aoColumn.HeaderText = "New Column 1";
gvMyGrid.Columns.Insert(columnIndex, aoColumn); // kills txtQuantity.Text on postback
gvMyGrid.Columns.Add(aoColumn); // works fine
columnIndex++;
foreach (MyEntity my in _myEntityCollection)
{
BoundField myColumn = new BoundField();
myColumn.HeaderText = String.Format("{0:d}", my.StartDate);
gvMyGrid.Columns.Insert(columnIndex, myColumn);
columnIndex++;
}
}
I then go on to assign values to these BoundFields in the _RowDataBound method and all of this works great. However, when I post back and try to reference some TextBox and they are all null. And yes, I have the BuildColumns() call wrapped in if (!IsPostBack) on Page_Load. Of course I would like to use .Insert() so that the columns can go in the proper location and not at the end of the Columns array.

But Grid is ok I can do
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.HeaderRow.Cells.Count;i++)
I rename request headers here but

I can't use it because of GridView1.Columns.Count is 0. So how can I hide them ?
I have a datasource, which includes many columns, idealy, I need use a gridview to show:
1) first 3 columns: template fields, these fields depends on values in some columns of datasource. I use template fields, hard coded. works fine.
2) the other columns. This is I do not know how to do it. In the data source, there are about 10-20 columns data, each time, the # of columns of the data varies. idealy, I need show each of them as a seperated column in gridview. The entire data source may have 30 columns, but some of them are used in 1), and I only want show these 10-20 columns in gridview. Some columns in data source, I may not use them at all. is there a way to do this? or have to seperate them as a detail view style UI?
