C# - Opening Gridview In New Window - Passing Parameters Between Pages?

I have a number of drop downs that the client can select a range of criteria. From this, they will press a button, the query will be generated and low and behold, a gridview will be produced in a new window (or at least give that impression) bound by an object datasource. I would also like the user to be able to amend the search numerous times so they can generate a number of new windows/gridviews.
Now then..what would be the best approach for achieving this result?
My initial thinking was to create a querystring generated by the client criteria selections (in the drop down lists), a new page would then take the querystring and populate the gridview here. My concern with this approach is that the query string could be a whopper...are there any disadvantages to creating a ridiculously long query string?
Alternatively, are there any other methods or ideas people have used to produce a similar desired effect?

I have a page with a lot of pictures on it. I want the user to be able to click on the picture and either bring up a popup type of window passing it the Param name and value , or to have the picture be replaced with this object.

I have found a number of places describing how to bring up a popup window, but not on how to pass it the values.

I am trying to pass parameters to a popup window via query string(a hidden field id & a textbox id). However, since I am using master pages the id's are very long (ct100_someid). Is there a way to elegantly pass my ids ? Can I shorten my id's or not show them to the user at all?

I have a parameter screen which contains many pop up windows for the parameters .
I have a department hierarchy which consists of department , branch and section.
I have 3 pop up windows for each parameter.
When i select, a department, it filters the list of the branch and shows only its branch when i open the branch pop up window.
But the problem is, when i select multiple departments, the branch pop up window shows the below error. The page works if only a department is shown.
Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '3,4,5,6 to data type int. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I have a page, which contains 2 textboxes. When i click on the first textbox, i have to open a child window (tool), that contains a gridview control with 2 columns (corresponding to the 2 textboxes). When the user clicks on any row in the gridview, it should send back the 2 column values back to the parent window to the corresponding 2 textboxes. how do i achieve this?

Im having the flowwing problem i have a gridview that i want to list many records when i click on a row iwant to be able to click on a button and go to the form of this record in order to update it. All the navigation works fine.I click on the button and then using javascript i window.open the page that has the form the problem is that when the new page loads the parent page (the page that has the gridview refreshes and because there are many records it is really annoying how can i use window open to pop up a child page without having the parent window to refresh.
Because im using all this in a dotnetnuke framework i have tried enabling and disabling partial rendering to the parent page page but always refreshes when i open the child window

we are running a click-to-call service, my idea is basically like this: website have a link on their page, when the link is clicked, a web page(say it is popup.aspx) hosted on our server is popup, user can input their phone number, and click "call me" button to let the website call him. In the button click event, I want to get Request.UrlReferrer, then query the db to get website's phone. But in IE, Request.UrlReferrer is null(firefox is ok, not test chrome yet),my question is how to get opening window' url in IE? we put popup.aspx on our server because
our client website is not force to use asp.net. we have the control what we put on the popup window, and can modify the page just from our side, if we put the pop window on our partner's side, if we have 100 partner, and we change the page's design, we will notify everyone of them to change this, change that. we can implement a statics system to know how popup a day, which site is most popular,etc

I have added a gridview in my aspx web page. I have added a hyperlink field, to navigate to another page from the gridview. I am getting the error as:
"There was an error rendering the control.
Index(zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list. "
This is the code i have used:

When i remove the hyperlink, the grid is getting displayed. I know, there is something wrong i have coded in the DataNavigateURLformatstring, but not sure what is wrong.
I want to pass the StudentID,CourseID,ChildImageID with the link as the querystring.

According to all I have read my DataNavagateUrlFields string should work but it isn't. The deal is that any one (AssocID) can have multiple AddrID's associated with it. Regardless of which I choose I only get back the first AddrID for that AssocId.

I need to be able to flag ANY PartyId input field with class="PartyLookup" so that it will modify the DOM and include the image next to the input field. The popup window returns data to populate both the hidden and text fields, but since the click() is generic I need to pass it the ID of the input field.

I have a page wich opens a popup window. I want to pass some variables, like some textbox.text and 2 dataTables from parent window to the popup window. And then I'll have to return some vars from popup window to parent window. So what is the best way to do this,
1) using Sessions("")
or
2)passing the variables as parameteres:
LinkButton1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open('popup.aspx?field1=" & value1 & "&field2=" & value2 & ......
I don't know if it's appropiated passing 8 or 10 variables as the option2 because the user will see a very long url with all the variables, but maybe is more efficient than using Sessions.... Anyway, could somebody clear me up?

I have a grid view that populates and displays data at btn click event from the following sql statement in one of the SP:
SELECT
reg_code, pc_serial, act_code
FROM user_reg
WHERE reg_code=@reg_code
I want to pass parameters to the other Stored procedure when the edit button is clicked in order to update the 2 columns in the specific row at the time. I now how to pass parameters in a regular btn click event or function, but in the case of edit btn in grid view I don't know how to capture data from specific row and then pass it to the SP. Here is Stored Procedure to update the columns (every user always has the same reg code, but may have more than one serial number and activation code, I want to let the user update serial number and then based on the serial number generate new activation code in the SP.):

Trying to open up a form in a new window while passing some values. It is working, but it is client side (My ASP co-worker finally grabbed the reigns and implemented a bit of his ASP magic to open the form and transfer the values.) But it's so messy, and I hate the fact that I have been bested by old technology.
I was doing this client side before, using window.open and transfering the variables in the URL, but I was getting flack for doing that. So I looked at alternatives and found session variables, which you set server side. So now we want to open the form. I tried the following (individually): Response.Redirect("OtherForm.aspx") and Server.Transfer("OtherForm.aspx") Which replaced the original form in the open window instead of a new window.
I spent a lot of time searching for a solution but the answer keeps coming back to "Just inject some JavaScript to open your form." Is there no "normal" way to open a form in ASP.NET. In any case I guess the real question I would like to ask is what is the best way to open a child form from a parent form?

I'm retrieveing pdf file from SQL Server 2008 and i wish to display it in new browsers tab. I successfully retrieved and displayed pdf document when i had pdf viewer installed.
My problem is, that after i unistalled pdf viewer, i got this window, which would be ok if the file wasn't WebForm2.aspx but let's say MyDocument.PDF
Am i doing something wrong? How could i achive that the file would be FileName.pdf and not FileName.aspx (in case of no viewer).

I have a gridview and I have an edit template for one control. I have a drop down box in this edit template so that you can select a value from it and then when you hit 'Update' the value from the drop down box is committed to the updated record. Unfortunately when I do hit the update button I get a fault that the "Status" field cannot be null.

I plan to put a Button on the existing page and when a user click the button, a new page or window pops up with what I have coded for that page. I have a modal pop up window (Ajaxcontroltoolkit one) and inside that I am trying to open a normal Java Script new window.

But for some reason it does not open.
