I currently store ASP.net application data in XML files. Now the problem is I have asynchronous operations, which means I ran into the problem of simultanous write access on a XML file... Now, I'm considering moving to an embedded database to solve the issue. I'm currently considering SQlite and embeddable Firebird. I'm not sure however if SQlite or Firebird can handle multiple concurrent write access. And I certainly don't want the same problem again. Anybody knows? SQlite certainly is better known, but which one is better - SQlite or Firebird ? I tend to say Firebird, but I don't really know. No MS-Access or MS-SQL-express recommodations please, I'm a sane person.
I would like to write an MVC application that accesses multiple data stores (SQL Server, MySQL, Cloud based, etc.).Most of the examples I see use LINQ to SQL for their data access but I read somewhere that LINQ only supports SQL Server - it may have been an old post.I was wondering what the best way to access these different data stores would be. Can I use the Data Access Application Block from MVC to access these data stores?
in one request i am updating session variable. in the other request, i am trying to access that session value, but it was blocked until the first request finish. I am using C# with ASP.NET 2.0 UPDATE: My page code looks like this.
If multiple users access a web-form at the same time, how can I allow that using my code? Essentially each user reads and writes one variable in the application, and concurrent access is causing problem there.
Suppose I have two threads(Thread1, Thread2) where the threads are accessing the cache for a given object such as in the code below nearly at the same time:
Dim expensiveToGetData = Cache("ExpensiveDataKey") If ExpensiveToGetData is nothing then 'because the cache has expired ExpensiveToGetData = LoadExpensiveDataFromDataSource() Cache("ExpensiveDataKey") = ExpensiveToGetData end If ProcessExpensiveData(ExpensiveToGetData)
Isn't it possible for both threads to load the cache because they both requested data from the cache that was nothing/expired? I've run some tests on a local machine and it seems that the cache is being loaded more than once. Is this a normal pattern?
I am stuck with the issue of concurrent access to Session object. Actually my problem is i m writing to session in frame1 and trying to access that same Session object at the same time in Frame2's Page. I know about the reader/writer lock. I made the enablesessionstate = readonly in the page where i m writing to session. its giving me strange behavior on IE and firefox.
Its working concurrently in IE8 ( means page2 is diplaying modified values while page1 is changing the session object) but does not work in Firefox even page load is not called untill function on page 1 completed. Either anyone can fix my issue with firefox or there is new solution to reader/writer lock so that i can read the session at the same time while writing.
My application is windows authenticated. The application pulls JUST the userName from the current windows account. Then I provide site access to this user depending on his account privileges. If his userName belongs to the admins list he is directed to admin screens. If his username belongs to users list he is directed to users screens. I handle this security in C# and some SQL tables(No membership provider and no Active directory security in the app).
I need to be able to prevent multiple concurrent logins for the same userName.
i'm developing a ASP.NET web application which uses the AjaxControlkit 3.0.30512.20315. I have a ToolkitScriptManager instance on my master page which has some ScriptReferences in the CombineScripts collection. If i access my default page from 2 differenct clients after an iisreset, i get the following exception
[NullReferenceException: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.] System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.Insert(TKey key, TValue value, Boolean add) +143 System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.set_Item(TKey key, TValue value) +11 AjaxControlToolkit.ToolkitScriptManager.GetScriptCombineAttributes(Assembly assembly) +129 AjaxControlToolkit.ToolkitScriptManager.IsScriptCombinable(ScriptEntry scriptEntry) +148 AjaxControlToolkit.ToolkitScriptManager.OnResolveScriptReference(ScriptReferenceEventArgs e) +415 System.Web.UI.ScriptManager.RegisterScripts() +191 System.Web.UI.ScriptManager.OnPagePreRenderComplete(Object sender, EventArgs e) +113 System.Web.UI.Page.OnPreRenderComplete(EventArgs e) +8698462 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +1029
Using .NET Reflector i found out that the GetScriptCombineAttributesmethod access a static dictionary, which is not protected against concurrent access. Either i have a race condition in my code or there is a bug in the AjaxToolkit.
I have a strange problem in my ASP.Net 3.5 application. When multiple users try to access the same page (which has some long running methods), the application crashes at a point where it tries to open a connection to the database (a static method inside a static class). It appears that the connection is already open. However, this does not happen when there is only one user using the application. What I cannot understand is that how do actions of one user affect the other in a web application?
I double checked that all my open connections are being closed after performing their operation by appending a line of text to a text file whenever a connection is opened or closed. The number of opened and closed connections was equal. Also, the connections are opened and closed from one place only, where the close method is inside a Finally() block.
Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.
We are developing a web solution for our clients to handle their business processes. With reality in check, clients' requirements change over time; sometimes adding a new field, changing the calculation logic etc. When it was still a small scale solution, whenever an upgrade occurs, we will upgrade any existing data to the latest change i.e by having a empty property for it. I would admit this isn't the best of scenarios as old products that previously don't possess certain properties are now 'new' again which doesn't reflect the product correctly.
I am looking for a solution to introduce versioning to this solution before things get out of hand. What I've come up with is like this:
Realising that data is semi-structured (it changes from time to time), we've decided to go with an XML / XSLT approach. Storage of the data will be a mix of columns storing individual properties (e.g. ProductID, ProductName, VersionNumber) and XML columns that holds XML data to cater to fields that will change.
These XML and XSLT will have version numbers to tell the system which version of XML works with the other.Logic wise, we were thinking of developing our business logic to support multiple versions so that old products will still be calculated using old algorithms while new ones will use the new algo. For old products, besides updating them using the old algorithm, we will allow an 'upgrade' option so that they can be upgraded to the new version if they want to. Database wise will remain unchanged since we will store fields that are to be changed in XML form so extending fields should be catered for.
Would like you guys out there to comment on such a setup. I'm concern about performance since some fields are stored as XML, retrieving it will require extra steps, hence the reason why we decided some consistent fields should be on their own for searching purposes etc. Also, would doing multiple versioning like this get really big on the logic side as the program grows?
i have a datagrid view with two columns. the first column is readonly and the other is editable. now i want every cell of the second column to support for mulitilines in each cell. i want to press enter key and come to the next line in the same cell. im using c#.
I am working on a web forms application that needs to support multiple languages based on a user's preference. Here are some considerations to keep in mind about the needed solution:
I want to avoid using resource files to store the different text translations because I'd like the ability to change them without having to recompile and deploy the application.
Also the translations ideally need to be adminstratable.
It seems its a considerable amount of effort to add this support to an existing application.
I'm designing a framework solution DLL with reusable code that I like to use for many different projects,
I want this DLL to be able to load unknown configuration variables dynamically based on the solution its running from.
I like to load my config variables like this: MyConfig.MyVariableX
Hopefully I can also to validate my variables when the web application loads (by type) and make sure it's not missing(otherwise Throw New ApplicationException("Missing..."))
It would also be nice if I can have intellisense on these variables
I want solution A (web application) to have the configuration variables and solution B (DLL) to load the variables from the configuration file in solution A
I'm thinking maybe I should create a database table to hold the variables with types and stuff...
What would be the best way to do it ?
How can I read unknown list of variables names and values from a config file and populate my class with it on runtime ?
I have a .net web application (framework 2.o) and SQL Server 2005 as my backend. I need to design an application which fetches a particular unique pin number to a customer and then mark this record as used. The problem I face is as the no of concurrent users are more , same pin number is getting allotted to multiple users.
I work with a ASP.NET UI framework that pulls fields for a particular screen off a database. These fields can be associated with particular data fields in another database for binding. The idea with this setup is that if a client needs a new column on a table, they can easily add it, and create a UI field that binds to it without any sort of application restart or recompile.
The problem I've always had with this is that it has meant I'm always having to work with untyped datasets in my code. Are there any ORM libraries for .NET out there that could easily accommodate the requirement of being able to access arbitrary columns in the table schema over and above ones mapped to strongly typed fields?
we are building a multi-tenant application, which will support that each tenant can have a unique top level domain, the application is build using the asp.net 3.5 and SQL servr 2005, while each tenant will have different database. I have seen a number of questions about the similar applications on the StackOverFlow, but none of them is related to the Testing, I want to know is how one can test the application in a development environment, specially How can we test that each customer connects to his own DB based on the URL. how can we emulate different domains on the local system. like [URL] and [URL]all goes to dev machine's IIS.
I'm trying to use the Entity Framework with a Firebird database in Visual Studio 2010
Useful info:
Windows 7 64-bit Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Firebird 2.5.0 Firebird .Net Data Provider 2.6 DDEX 2.0.5
I've done:
Installed Firebird server (and it works and I can connect to a database) Downloaded DDEX (I've run the registry files) used the gacutil on the FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll and checked that it indeed was installed and it was Modyfied the machine.config for both 2.0 and 4.0 in 32-bit and 64 bit folders to include the provider in the element When I try to add a connection in the server explorer I choose "Firebird Data Source" and the Firebird data provider and press continue. I the "Add Connection" dialog window I fill in the info "data source, database, user, password.." and press ok and then I get the following error:
Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider Also when I try to add a new Entity Data Model I cannot see the Firebird option.. I can only see SQL options. I really need help on this one as I've spent many hours on this and I cannot get it to work.. I've also read other related questions on SO,
Ive created a web site using VS2008 ASP.net and connected to a Firebird Database.
I have a page that has a GridView(added at design time) and have connected to a table at runtime.
[Code]....
All good as the table contents are displayed at 10 rows per page. Ive set the Property AllowSorting to True. Has anyone got examples on how to code the sorting? Ive had a look round the net but all the examples Ive tried dont work.
I use access membership prvider and it works. but I am unable to recover passwork. It says that "" membership provider doesn't support to get and zero password." It gives me the error in turkish and I translated it. Something like that. I am using the below code;
I have multiple sites hosted at a hosting company that does not support domain pointing. Right now I have all of my domains go to the root directory and Response.Redirect() to a sub-directory which leaves me with mydomain.com/subdir/. Is there a way to make my own pointer to eliminate the /subdir/ portion of the URL?
I am working on a CMS project using ASP.Net 3.5/Visual studio 2008.This is the first week of the project and I am working on the design of the system right now. Needless to say that this is my first project of this scale and I have no idea of what I am doing.
The requirements of the project ask for a light but functional CMS, one which is easy to deploy.So the question is which database to use in this scenario SQLCE or SQLite?
