C# - ScriptManager Adding Script Multiple Times To Page (duplicates)?
Dec 3, 2010
This is the exact same question as this unanswered one from May.
(edit) Note: this unanswered post exactly describes the behavior - extra scripts being added in the
by ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock in a usercontrol, in an UpdatePanel, is causing duplicates. C# .NET 4.0. The page is structured like this:
MasterPage
Page
UserControl1 (ascx) - loaded in code by Page
UpdatePanel
UserControl2 (ascx) - loaded in code by UserControl1
The first time the script is added as expected, in the body. The code, simply, in the UserControl2 OnInit:
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Page.GetType(), "myscript", script, true);
I've also tried referencing "this" instead of page, which doesn't really make sense since I don't want the same script keys duplicated on the page if the usercontrol is loaded multiple times on a page, but it didn't work anyway.
After a partial postback, the script is added again - but curiously in the
of the page, not the body, and interestingly, lacking the normal //...// wrapper that asp.net usually adds.
Another script which is added by UserControl1 is duplicated exactly the same way after a partial postback.

I have a simple asp.net web forms page that does an insert to my sql server db. My server was running slow at the time and I pressed Insert button several times because I didn't think it took but it did all 3 times.So I have duplicates from that one interaction. How would I prevent this?

I am using VS2010, .Net 4. I am trying to add a ScriptManager to my page, so I can reference an AJAX Enabled WCF Service. When I add the ScriptManager control to my page and view it - I get the error shown below. I have no clue how to resolve it. I get the error by simply putting the control on my page (not reference the WCF Service).
Error seen when "viewing source":
(script src="/ScriptResource.axd?d=cN6E-bUIIAhb0PYSsbqev2ndhi3W3ltVtHjrJ-T5yBfO3jQBEHWjU39PLAybm-JIxwU4s59EhJFweLHmABl1zA2yo8fKhHYHGS7RTy1fhECuWqXbMMy5aCuSlqHbfp3advQcwp11SqaDwkvU1YN6Bw2&t=ffffffffbd2983fc" type="text/javascript")(/script)
(script type="text/javascript")
//(![CDATA[
if (typeof(Sys) === 'undefined') throw new Error('ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load.');
//]])
(/script)
Actually, my problem is that I am not able to access the service. I am referencing it inside the ScriptManager and have the javascript code in place, but Firefox is reporting that it cannot find it. Says it is not defined. I do not know how to test this or determine where it is failing.

I have the JQuery tab control on my page and each tab will be using the same partial view with a filter set of the model. What is the best way to do this?
The only thing is the data needs to be filtered before it gets to each partial view.
I am currently putting the filtered model data in ViewData but I do not know how to reference that in the partial views.

In my partial view:

I would like to wrap Session variables in a manner similar to that discussed on CodeProject.
[code]....
Here is my question: if I have to access CurrentUser multiple times in the same page, would I get a performance improvement by assigning it to a local variable instead of accessing the wrapping property? Or does the HttpSessionState make sure the object is only deserialized once per request, so that subsequent calls in the same http request don't cost any more?

am using a master page, with children pages.
I am using forms authentication, and a session object to hold user information once the user is authenticated.
I am able to login and log out. I am able to log in and use the "remember me" functionality of the forms authentication.
When attempting to test the "remember me" functionality, the master page load event contains code to check the forms authentication & remember me, and retrieve user info from the database to automatically log the user in. This fires correctly, and the screens all load with the user successfuly logged in, and the users info is successfully stored in a session object.
Without touching anything on the screen, a moment passes and then the master page load event spontaneously fires again, Page.User.Identity.Name still contains the user name, however the session variable is now null, and throws an error.If I tell it to run past this error, it does, and the application continues to function normally, withthe session variables set correctly.
Its almost as if that second firing is ina different session, or something.
I have no problem posting code, but I have a profile class holding / handling the session communication, etc so it is a bit cumbersome.

I'm using the local database functionality in Chrome and Safari and what I do when I want to save this to a remote database is to create a hidden textfield and then using JSON to stringify each row. In the code behind I then parse each JSON object and insert it into the list. What I want to do now is to delete these rows from the local database. I have a JavaScript function called deletePatient:

i used the following technique to Select multiple items from DropDownList into TextBox with No duplicates, however i dont think it is the most proper way, any ideas. pressing again with same value selected choose another value from DDL and press button
Protected Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
If TextBox2.Text.Contains(DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Text) Then
Dim m As New Label
m.Text = "duplicate !"
Me.form1.Controls.Add(m)
Exit Sub
End If
If TextBox2.Text = "" Then
TextBox2.Text = DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Text
Else
TextBox2.Text = TextBox2.Text + " , " + DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Text
End If

so here is the setup. I am building a page that has a listview, a datapager, and 3 datapagerfield (2 x NextPreviousPagerField, 1 x NumericPagerField), and a objectdatasource to tide all of this together.
It was all working fine until I put a breakpoint into the SelectMethod specified in the objectdatsource control. It seems like that for each datapagerfield control, it is calling the selectmethod and selectcount method. Hence, whenever a user paged, it calls the database 6 times instead of 2 (I don't have caching turned on atm). If I remove one datapagerfield, it will remove 2 calls.
Now this is build in asp.net 3.5 SP1 in VS2008. When I copied the same code files to a asp.net 4.0 VS2010 solution, it duplicate call seems to be gone.
Is this a bug in asp.net 3.5 SP1?

I have a tricky scenario whereby I want to add ScriptManager scriptreference only on some conditions as follows
[code]....
I googled up and tried to add '#' as <%# but by adding '#' it can't find the class (xyzclass) and so get the error as
Expected class, delegate, enum, interface, or struct
I tried doing the work as mentioned here too[URL]
No luck so far. If I take the approach as mentioned in above link, it says something like
The base class includes the field '', but its type (System.Web.UI.ScriptManagerProxy) is not compatible with the type of control (System.Web.UI.ScriptManager).
what I need is just to add scripts via ScriptManager ONLY dynamically. Is there any way which is in practice good one too.

I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration...I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page.The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers.However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on.What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss.

I have gone through the article "Preserving state of Checkboxes while paging in ASP.Net GridView Control", this is great one and works fine with one gridview on the page but in my case I have 2 gridviews and I am unable to preserve state of first gridview after clicking in second gridview.

As per Yahoo's guidelines for performance of web sites , javascripts should be combined in one to avoid extra http request , as i saw in YSlow asp.net loads 3 to 4 scripts one for MicrosoftAjax.js , one for microsoft MicrosoftAjaxForms.js & some other 2 which may tondle postbacks & client side validations , I want these 4 js to be in one.

I'm overriding the Controller.Initialize method to set some stuff before each ActionResult is executed, however I'm finding that the method is being called multiple times for each request (anywhere between 2 - 10 times). I'm running in Cassini.
My hunch is that it is running for all static files (images, css etc) as well as the requested action - although I may be wrong? I thought maybe something was wrong in my web.config but it all looks right to me.

I am using a document.getElementById("val").click() to invoke a click event, but it keeps firing multiple times.
Here I add the eventHandler
try {
//add mousedown event handler to navigation buttons
addEventHandler(oPrevArrow, "mousedown", handlePrevDayClick);
addEventHandler(oNextArrow, "mousedown", handleNextDayClick);
addEventHandler(oLogout, "mousedown", handleLogoutClick);
}
catch (err) {
}
In the click event i am performing a "auto click"
function handleNextDayClick(e) {
e = e || window.event;
stopEvent(e);
document.getElementById("btn_nextday").click();
}
NB: the button that is auto-clicked calls a method in the ASP.NET Code-Behind

A class in my ASP.NET website needs to access a database table multiple times for every request. The database table should rarely change, if ever. Maybe a couple times a month.
In the static constructor of the class, the table is fetched from the DB and cached in a static local variable. Whenever the class needs to access the table, then, it just uses the cached, static version.
My question concerns the lifespan of this cached, static version of the table.
I understand that it's fetched the first time the class is instantiated or a static method in the class is used. But how often does this occur on the web server? What if the table changes and we want to reset this static version of the table?
Basically, I'm wondering, is this table fetched once and then only refetched each time I restart IIS? What, with regard to the site and IIS, will trigger this static class to reset, causing the static table to be refetched?

times , even when i have not restarted the application.
Its being repetadly called when i am calling different actions , so the webconfig is repetedly updating & making my application very very slow. what's the reason & how to handle this .

[Code]....
When the popup opens, the following code is run:
.....
if (window.attachEvent) {
$("#rblQuickPick").change(function () {
//ClickQuickPick();
alert("something changed!");
});
.....
ClickQuickPick() is the code I will eventually run, but I put in the Alert for testing.
The issue is that when the popup extender opens, and I click an item, I get the alert once. If I click another choice I get the alert twice. If I click another choice I get the alert three times, etc.
What is triggering the event to repeat, and how do I stop it?
