C# - Unable To Set GridView Row Widths On RowDataBound?
Jul 26, 2010
My current code to attempt to set widths for the rows on a gridview is:
protected void RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.Header)
{
foreach (DataControlFieldHeaderCell dcfhc in e.Row.Cells)
{
dcfhc.Width = 100;
}
}
else
{
foreach (DataControlFieldCell dcfc in e.Row.Cells)
{
dcfc.Width = 100;
}
}
}
But that just keep all of the widths default! What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: I have already tried thise code as well!
PoolToDBHeaders.DataSource = new DataView(headerTable);
PoolToDBHeaders.DataBind();
foreach (DataControlField dcf in PoolToDBHeaders.Columns)
{
dcf.ItemStyle.Width = 100;
}
PoolToDBHeaders.DataBind();

I'm creating a ListView and have been unable to format column widths. After much research I have found that the width property of the <asp:Label doesn't work. I'm using
<asp:Label
ID="lblVCArea"
runat="server"
width="10"
BackColor="Aqua"
Text='<%# Eval("VCArea") %>'
/>
I test the FormView by changing the width property and it doesn't affect the width of the column. The <th control in the layout template has a width="60" that appears to be working. If I remove the <asp:label from the <td in the Item and AlternateItem templates, the width is set to 60. When I paste the <asp:label back into the <td, the width of the column increases to about 200px even though the width is set to 10. I set the backcolor to Aqua to see the label and it is about 200 px widt.

I am trying to create a table at runtime which is populated from information in a database. At the present time the table displays as follows: The problem is I need the "test test" text to be in the middle of the table, however if I show a box around the cell it only takes up the 1st half of the table regardless of the width I specify. Is it possible to have a dynamic table that effectively has rows where the cells are merged together in a specific way to allow the control to be positioned where I want it? THe code I am using to create the table is as follows:
[Code]....
where I am going wrong or is what I am trying to achieve not possible with a dynamic table?

I need to specify image width dynamically (To get some progress bar effect). I wrote below code in RowDataBound
sender,GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType ==
DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
if (e.Row.Cells[2].Text !=
"Propulsion") // Propulsion is column name
{
string
s = e.Row.Cells[2].Text;
System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image
img = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image();
img.ImageUrl =
"http://localhost:47120/green_img.png";
img.Width =
new
Unit(Convert.ToInt32(s)+"px");
e.Row.Cells[2].Controls.Add(img);
}
}
}
void gridView_RowDataBound(object Error: Input string was not in correct format

My problem is: The GridView normally fits the grid perfectly to the data so that each cell only spans one row and has the appropriate column widths. However, when I add a row of TextBoxes to the bottom of this grid, the column widths suddenly all become equal, so that some cells with lots of words span multiple rows. Is there anyway to prevent this?

In a nested GridView (GridView inside a template column of parent GridView). I am binding child GridView to a DataTable in parent GridView's RowDataBound event. this works as it should. But the problem i am facing is in Child GridView's RowDataBound Event, when i try to access e.Row.DataItem property it returns null. I am expecting it to return DataRowView Type. which i will then use to set values of TextBox's.

I usually use repeaters all the time but have used a gridview control so I can take advantage of the row_editing feature.
I had it all working but then needed to replace the standard linkbutton "Edit" with an image.
Its all gone horribly wrong and revealed my lack of understanding with this control.

I need to populate gridview on rowdatabound because I may need to disable whole row amnd I want to swap images about.
I think im going wrong because I should eb databinding using the <% eval %> method, but im not really sure.

I have created a gridview in code behind (as in its not physically present on the page). I want to know how to call it's rowdatabound event - as data is being bound to it. There happens to be a Gv.RowDataBound function, but how do I use it? (I want the same functionality as what the asp:gridview control has for its onrowdatabind attribute...)
GridView Gv = new GridView();
Gv.AutoGenerateColumns = false;
BoundField one = new BoundField();
one.DataField = "one";

in asp.net we can handle the RowDataBound event of the GridView control. this event fires when every row is added to the gridview.
i want to be able to handle this event in the gridview in a winforms application but i cannot find a similar event. my question is what is the event name that allows me to do the same as RowDataBound in asp.net?

When u have a gridview(lets say gridview1) and u associate an event
OnRowDataBound = "gridView1_RowDatabound"
and u usually start the event method as follows
protected void gridView1_RowDatabound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e){
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow){
do something..
}
}
Why do u have to check again if the row is data row, as i understand it gridview1_rowdatabound event occurs only when the rows are getting bound by the datasource u supplied. Why do u perform again this additional checking ?

Is it possible to retrieve the DataRowIndex of the binding datarow from its parent DataTable. I would use it to point again back to the datatable when i perform a delete operation. I can't use the DataItemIndex of GridView since the rows with RowState=Deleted still exists., so it won't point to the correct row of datatable.

I have info from a couple of different tables that I need to be able to double click on a cell in a gridview and navigate to a couple of separate .aspx pages. Yesterday I learned how to use RowDataBound to get the name from a cell on a gridview to use in a delete confirmation dialoge box, and so am pretty sure I should be using this same RowDataBound, but I cant quite figure out where to start.
For example from the gridview below, I need to be able to double click in the "LoginIssue" field and navigate to an "EditLogin.aspx" page and subsequently be able to double click in the "ContractPath" and be able to navigate to a "ContractPath.aspx" page...or popup.

I have two different functions which are used to generate two different report on one gridview. In otherwords, in my design, I have a calendar event which is used to generate a report on the gridview and I have a dropdownlist which is used to generate a different report on the same gridview, so depending on the control that is clicked on depends on the report being generated. Now I would like a situation where my gridview rowdatabound is only applied to the dropdownlist report not the calendar event report. How can i go about doing so.

I'm attempting to change the format of the 2nd column in a gridview during the rowdatabound event. I pulled sample code from various sources and wrote the following, but it's not working. I tried to do a trace, but the rowdatabound event didn't appear in the trace. Here's some code for the gridview:
[Code]....
Here's what I have in the code behind:

I expected the values in the 2nd template column to get written in italics, but nothing happens. I do have a gridview skin that's getting applied.

I have a gridview and a template column:
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Active">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="chkbxActive" runat="server" Checked ='<%# Bind("Active") %>' />
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblActive" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Active") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
The item "Active" is a bit from the database And for the RowDataBound:
Const HeavyCheckMark As Char = ChrW(&H2714)
For Each row As GridViewRow In gvProductCodes.Rows
If gvProductCodes.EditIndex = -1 Then
' Selects the text from the Label which is inside the GridView control
Dim lblActive As String = CType(row.FindControl("lblActive"), Label).Text
lblActive = lblActive.Replace("True", HeavyCheckMark)
lblActive = lblActive.Replace("False", "")
'Replaces the text in each Label control
CType(row.FindControl("lblActive"), Label).Text = lblActive
Else
Dim chkbx As CheckBox = CType(row.FindControl("chkbxActive"), CheckBox)
End If
The check mark works fine when not in edit mode. But when in edit mode, the row that is being edited works as expected. But the other rows now show True or False. I want them to have the const HeavyCheckMark in it instead.

When a Gridview row is in edit, I need to default an empty textbox to today's date. I am close, but the defaulted date is is not saved to the database. I can key in the date and the date is displayed and saved to the database. Even more interesting:
1. The date is defaulted to - 5/17/2010
2. If I erase the month and key the "5" back in the data is not saved.
3. If I erase the month and then change the month to "6", the data is saved to the database. If any value is changed in the date the save works.
