C# - Sql Syntax And / Or Code - Get The Populatewallposts Select Statement To Work?
Apr 2, 2011
how to fix my sql syntax so my code works again, i made a few manual entrys for now to see if I can get them to be displayed: The FriendUserID relates to another UserID in the usertable who has obviously a different picture and information but I dont know how to display to concurrent WallPosting's from different users atm.
my code creates a dynamic div gives the div an ID = to the userid and input the wallpost messgaes named wallpostings, it takes the information stored about the userid and applys the image related to that userid, is there any way this can be changed with sql? or have i went down a one way alley?
public partial class UserProfileWall : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Page.IsPostBack)
{
//It is a postback so check if it was by div click (NOT WORKING because the javascript isnt posting back)
string target = Request["__EVENTTARGET"];
if (target == "DivClicked")
{
string id = Request["__EVENTARGUMENT"];
//Call my delete function passing record id
using (OdbcConnection cn = new OdbcConnection("Driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver}; Server=localhost; Database=gymwebsite2; User=root; Password=commando;"))
{
cn.Open();
using (OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand("DELETE FROM WallPosting WHERE idWallPosting="+id, cn))
{
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

What is the correct syntax in VB.net 2008 web developer in SQL to do a WHERE clause where the data is >= to the current date? I can't figure out how you pass now into the SQL statement.
I have a GridView; one of the columns displays concatenated records from a tables. to extract the records that are going to be concatenated and put in this column, i have used: FOR XML path('') and it works just fine for displaying those records. the problem now is the whole gridview can not be sorted anymore and gives me a 404, document not found, error whenever i try to click the columns to sort. here is my select statement for my sql datasource select command:
SqlDataSource2.SelectCommand = "Select a1.*, keyword = substring( ( SELECT DISTINCT ', ' + keywordName FROM keywords JOIN key_mm_articles ON key_mm_articles.keywordID = keywords.keywordID WHERE key_mm_articles.articleID = a1.articleID FOR XML path(''), elements ),2,500) FROM articles a1 WHERE title LIKE '" & titles & "' Order By a1.articleID"
Dim mySqlSelect As String = "Select distinct GroupName from Vecellio.dbo.GroupsTable where GroupName like %" & prefixText & "% order by GroupName desc" Value of string: Select distinct GroupName from Vecellio.dbo.GroupsTable where GroupName like %A% order by GroupName desc
Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException = {"Incorrect syntax near 'A'."}
I will declarate a attribute, but it gives me an error
This query works fine and returns 1 record from type int:
SELECT TOP 1 DataObjectVersionID FROM tblDataObjectVersionPropertyValueText WHERE PropValue like CAST('00010281' AS ntext) ORDER BY DataObjectVersionID DESC
And when I will declarate a attribute/parameter it gives me an error:
DECLARE @dataObjectVersionId INT SET @dataObjectVersionId = SELECT TOP 1 DataObjectVersionID FROM tblDataObjectVersionPropertyValueText WHERE PropValue like CAST('00010281' AS ntext) ORDER BY DataObjectVersionID DESC
Error message:
Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'SELECT'.
I'm writing an update statement to update a user's password in the linked Access Database when they input (and confirm the input) of the new password in a textbox on my webpage.
The SQL statement that is being generated is - UPDATE tblUser SET [Password]=[chuck68] WHERE UserID=0000009
With tblUser being the correct name for the table, Password being the correct name for the field I wish to change and UserID being the linked field to lookup the password from.
The entirety of my code is as follows: (with the necessary import statement at the top of the class).
Protected Sub ChangePasswordButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ChangePasswordButton.Click
How would i make a select statement select the row with the nearest values? e.g.: I have 3 labels, labels1 2 and 3, with values of 1.2, 2 and 5.8 In my table i have 4 columns, first is the data im after, and the next 3 relate to the three labels. I want to select one row, where the values of labels match it the closest.......
I have a MS Access table with the "ModelID" column set as AutoNumber and primary key. The ModelID is set as Field Size --> Long Integer, New Values --> Increment, Format --> General Number, Indexed --> Yes (No Duplicates).
Here is the code i am trying to execute, and is giving me an exception -> insert into syntax error:
[Code]....
I have no idea why this is happening? I do not usually use MS Access, i usually use MS SQL Server however this website has an older database. I had to create the tbl_Models as it is a new table and i am thinking i maybe setup the table wrong as i have similar insert into statements that work on other tables....
I was wondering if there is any way to view an sql statement that is created by a templateField Gridview when updating? I had my Gridview working properly then I changed my update statement to update less fields and I changed a couple more things on the page and now I don't know what broke it. The error I'm getting is
"System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Syntax error in UPDATE statement."
When I searched for this error it said to debug it but all that happens when I do that is visual studio tells me there were errors because it couldn't find my header, which it does find when it runs regularly so this isn't the problem.
i built an oledb update stmt using the syntax from a 4 guys tutorial, http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/071002-1.3.aspx , but am getting the above error
sample how i build an update field into the update string
Dim targetAttendeeCount As Integer = _ CType(e.Item.Cells(0).FindControl("targetAttendeeCountTextBox"), TextBox).Text Dim parmTarAttCnt As OleDbParameter = _ New OleDbParameter("@targetAttendeeCount", OleDbType.Integer) parmTarAttCnt.Value = targetAttendeeCount myCommand.Parameters.Add(parmTarAttCnt)
so none of the variables are being resolved, i know they are being returned from, in this case a datagrid, because i have printed them separately, so am not sure at this point how to get the vars to resolve, i was hoping to not have to use all the quotes + apostrohes and thought the @syntax was simplifying that but not so. is there some way to code this with the @'s?
1.LookupPageInfo and (LookupPageInfoId,pathmessageID,pagemessageID)
2.Messages (MessageId,MessageText,ChannelID)
Now i need to write a query something like this........in the query i need to pass the pathmessageid and needs to get messagetext from Messages Table,i am not sure how i need to write the below query..can someone guide me how can i write a query......as below..
select LookupPageInfoId, PathMessageID, pagemessageID, (select messagetext from Messages where MessageID=PathmessageId) as TEXT from LookupPageInfo
I have a problem with my SQL statement that only needs to show future dates in the Gridview.I use vb, vs 2005.I want a DateTime Field(TEndDate) to act as a control field in that only future dates (WHERE TEndDate >= Now.Date.Date) should be returned.It asks for my paramaterized value when I'm building the query.I'm unsure about the source I should select for the query.(The options are: None/Control/Cookie/Form/Profile/Querystring/Session)I'm losing my mind with this!Here is my code:
Where can I find documentation on the syntax that is expected for LinqDataSource.Select? It seems to be different from what I would do with Linq inline in C# code. For example, concatenateing something in Linq I would normally just do this in the projection:
new { FullName = (person.FirstName + " " + person.LastName ) } However, with a LinqDataSource the only way I've found to do this is like this: new ( String.Concat(person.FirstName, " ", person.LastName) as FullName)
I literally spent hours trying to figure this out, and only succeeded when I found a blog where someone gave this verbatim as an example. So I still don't understand why the syntax is different, the braces versus parens, aliasing, Concat operators. Next time I do this I want a better understanding so I am not playing this guessing game. It's like being handed a compiler, and trying to write a program when you don't know what language the compiler compiles.1. Are there different "flavors" of Linq? Like a VB Linq, and C# Linq?2. If so, is the LinqDataSource using a VB flavor of Linq?3. Really, what is really important to me, where can I find documentation on this particular falvor of Linq that the LinqDataSource expects? The documentation for the LinqDataSource itself gives nothing more than extremely simplistic examples.
how can I create stored procedure and write my select statement in it, I know how to create dataset then put type stored procedure and assign it to the sp ... what I want is writing my sp... how can I make it ?
check the following code, this is what I want to write put I don't know where or how !
I get the following error on the e.Command.Parameters("@latestRowId").Value line. It was working, but now not and I'm not sure why? Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid.
I have two dropdown list, which is 'names' and 'types' and it's being populated by a dataset. It contains an additional item "-- ALL --" to indicate that all items of a particular field are being shown. I have an SQL select statement to filter the records according to the selected item of the dropdowns. I used a select statement to bind the records to a datagrid with regards to the selected items.
SELECT * FROM table where name = ddlnameselecteditem AND type = ddltypeselecteditem
The problem now is when I select a name from the names dropdownlist and types dropdownlist has a selection of -- ALL --, there would be no return records because there's no such thing as '-- ALL --' record in column 'types' i'm querying. I need to display rows of the selected 'name' while still showing all the 'types'. How could I achieve this? I think I need to avoid the '-- ALL --' item from the dropdownlist.
I'm pretty new at ASP. I've got a sheet I'm trying to modify using an IF statement. I tried putting them in, in different ways, but it either shows up in the form or I get the options multiple times
[Code]....
i have a variable picked up elsewhere strArea, so I was trying to do something like
[Code]....
I have tried putting the if's in different places, as well as case statement but usually I end up with my drop down option list as 1 1 2 1 2 3
I have written some vb code that inserts whatever has been written on my page into an Access database. Only problem is VWD throws up an error saying that the syntax of my SQL statement is wrong. I am 95% sure that this statement is correct because when I saw the statement in Text Visualizer and tried that statement in MYSQL the data went in perfectly.
I have pasted the code below:
strSQL = "INSERT INTO User (UserID, FirstName, LastName, Password) VALUES "
i am writing storedprocedure for creating salary table ,but getting error while executing sp.
