C# - Undoing External Dll Reference From Tfs?
Sep 7, 2010
When I undo an external dll in TFS, it looks as though it worked because I can compile with no errors. However, if I look in the folder where the dll lives it still shows the newest dll, which technically would not compile if I just did an Undo.
So, my question is, where does the old dll live after I do an Undo?

I have a Class Library Project that I'm using in another Web application project. I've noticed that this has just copied the Class Library DLL into the Bin folder of the Web Application, and also that if I make some changes to the Class Library and rebuild the project, I also have to rebuild the Web Application for the changes to take effect there.
This kind of defeats the object why I'm creating a Class Library as I'm hoping to put some generic functionality in there that will be available to a number of different web applications.

I have an Asp.Net TextBox control whose enabled property I need to evaluate using a separate (from the code-behind of the containing page) class. The way I want to do this is:
<asp:TextBox ID="myTB" runat="server" Enabled="<% ToggleControl(this, "someBusinessValue") %>" ... />
The reason I need to pass a reference to the calling control is to see if there are other properties I may need to consider before disabling it. The 'this' keyword, however, refers to the page as a whole. And since my TextBox can be within a FormView, or GridView, I can't easily just get the control byexamining 'page.myTB'. I don't want to have to start ploughing through GridViews on the receiving class file just to retrieve a reference to the TextBox.Does anyone know how to refer to the control inline in this way?EDIT 1: This will need to be done to several different types of server control, such as ListBox, CheckBox, RadioButtonList, etc.EDIT 2: The best I've come up with so far is:
<asp:TextBox ID="myTB" runat="server" Enabled="<% ToggleControl(myGridView.FindControl("myTB") as WebControl, "someBusinessValue") %>"

I've noticed as my website gets bigger and bigger, the time my laptop takes to display my page is much longer then say a new projects with minimal references. I think there are two variables at play that affect ASP.NET warm-up time:
The quantity of external references The time it takes for a worker process to new() up each instance per worker process Additional time for the WCF objects as the ServiceHost may be in an external DLL First, are those the correct variables to take into account when considering ASP.NET startup time? Next, it appears that web.config may dispatch other objects for use with certain filetypes (*.svc, *.aspx, Windows Identity Foundation (WIF), etc. ). This too may cause delays in ASP.NET.
Last, my project is created as a "web project" not a "web site". Not sure if this has an impact. Is my theory full of holes, or is there something I can do to make development on a old laptop any better?

I am trying to call web reference "A" in an application.
The web reference "A" will then call a function in another web reference "B" through HTTPS connection (require certificate).
Then I keep getting the following error:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException' occurred in System.Web.Services.dll

When you use ASP.NET web site (instead of web application model) and add reference to an assembly from local folder, Visual Studio, it seems, understands that this local assembly is also in GAC and so does NOT copy this assembly to bin folder (as it does with non-GAC assemblies), but simply adds new record in web.config file.
Why such a behaviour? Is it possible to force copy to bin folder (I need this since .dll is not on target environment)? I can add assembly to bin folder as file and it will work, but in this case bin folder contents will be in source control, which is not good.

I am working on converting a project from C# to VB and am facing this weird issue. 1 page cannot compile and I get the reference error, but the weird thing is that the compiler shows the error as coming from ASP.NET generated code. Visual Studio shows me that error is coming from my ASPX page. I cannot seem to figure out why or where this error is occuring. Also if I take the inherits attribute out I don't get the compilation error. The code in aspx page is below:

I am using VS2005, and a newbie at table adapters, DAL & BLL. I have a single dataset (in DAL) and 2 classes (in BLL) named Class1.vb and Class2.vb.
When I try to call a function from Class1 within Class2 I get the error "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference".
Here is a sketch of my code structure:

I have a Web service which, when updated on one computer with VS2008 works perfectly fine, but on another computer does not. The critical difference is the contents of the auto-generated Reference.cs.
In the correctly functioning environment, the methods have fully qualified class names, refering to classes in a class library. However, in the problem environment, the class names are unqualified and partial classes are declared near the end of the file. E.g.
[code]....
The code is under source control. Checking out to the working environment works straight away, checking out to the problem environment will only work if the reference.cs is manually edited to be like the working environments. Transferring the project manually from problem environment to the working one only requires an "Update Web Reference" to be performed to allow compilation. Both Reference.cs files claim to be auto-generated by the same tool version. The settings from the good environment have been exported to the other. No success so far...

I have a url like this:
http://www.somepage.com/main.aspx. In this page, when I click on a link it takes me to a page
http://www.somepage.com/cental.aspx?cid=200. So in the cental.aspx.cs page I did the following in the page load:
if(request.querystring["comp"].tostring() != null)
{
//do some thing [code].....
So I got an error like: object reference not set to an instance of reference.My problem is, I am using the same page. So when I go from some page, I will have "comp". but other times not. So when there is no "comp", how do I handle it in request.querystring?

my logic here is to select an item from the dropdown list and put some text in the text box and submit the form which will add an item to the listbox selected.. but when i do this i get an error saying Object reference not set to an instance of an object. i tried to figure out the problem and found that when i remove the reference to the Site Master Page it works fine and when i undo and apply my reference back to the Site Master Page i get the same error.

Using VS2008, I noticed that in Class Project I only have a choice of adding "service reference" where as in Web Application project, I have two choices "web reference" and "service reference".
I have used web reference. How is "service reference" different from web ref? and what's the major purpose of service ref?

I am trying to create a link that is distributed via eMail. This link will direct the user to a View inside my MVC2 application. I will need to pass 2 parameters with this link. Background: The eMail is an invitation. The user will click the link inside the eMail to RSVP for a meeting. When the link is clicked I want the user to be directed to a certain controller action/view. The parameters will be an eMail address (string) and a meeting ID (int).
The controller action will use the parameters to process logic that determines what the view will display.
An example using the following would be perfect:
Controller action / View name: RSVPmeeting
Parameter: AttendeeEMail (string)
Parameter: MeetingID (int)

I'm trying to learn ASP.NET programming and here's my first big issue I need to solve:- I like to keep code separate from presentation so I've decided to use code-behing model - I've created default.aspx + default.aspx.cs and everything works nicely- Inside default.aspx.cs, in
[Code]....
I want to instantiate an object where its class is declared in a separate file and is part of a separate namespace. This is a simple PDF generation class that I wish to develop and use in other web and also desktop projects, that's why all these separation.- As a web developer I tend to avoid all kind of IDEs, as a result of this I am independant and I know every line of code in details. Do you think it is possible to bypass VisualStudio and code all the projects by hand? I believe this is quite possible with pure C# code but what about the problem I've described above? Can somebody please write the minimum directive(s) to include an external class or file. (I know about VS 'Add class...', etc. )

I would like to have a project that contains all of my Controller logic. I'm not concerned with using Areas, as these are still maintained within the same project. Consider this scenario: I have multiple sites/apps that require the exact same interaction in regards to a particular area, say CRUD ops on a user account. I do not want to create all of the controller logic for one site/app, recreate it again for the next, and make sure that I keep all maintenance to each in sync. I would prefer to keep the controllers in a separate project and reference them from the appropriate site.
I know someone will say that the controller logic is a lot of times specific to the application (as I've read elsewhere), but let's just say that it is guaranteed to be the same. I want to focus on the "how" and not the "why". So far, I've created a class library project with the appropriate references for accessing System.Web.Mvc. How do I proceed with the routing configuration for this? Is this idea even possible? I read a few older articles that were written when Areas were first being introduced that said to create separate projects for them. Is this idea similar to that?
