Just I started learning MVC pattern, of course i am learning it from Microsoft's website.Just i want to gather quiz information from the experts. My understanding is (correct me then and there)
1 ) MVC does not support server side events, but supports client side events. If it supports client side events, I need html page with jQuery/Javascript (view), but most of the example I absorbed is to display the information(model) in view, I did not see any client side event handling happens in view.
2) Except ViewState and controlState, MVC supports Sessions, Application State management, Cache management.
3) When request goes to MVC engine, the routing module routes the request that is picked up by the controller. The controller in executes the appropriate action and returns the appropriate view.
I was wondering if anyone had an easy way to wire up javascript event handlers to events happening on the server-side. I have a long running process that includes a lot of steps, and would like the client to be continually updated with new information as the steps transition. Will this involve some sort of polling mechanism?
i have used PageMethods to access the server side functions in javascript , but now my problem is that with pagemethods your controls will not go throught the full page lifecyle and these leads me to have "Object not set for an instance of an object" error. Now can someone come with a differnt approach without using pagemethods. What i want is to call a server side function , i dont want to pass any parameters to it

I am using Ajax's EnablePageMethods way to call server side code using javascript. The problem is that in IE8 the page automatically refreshes after the ajax call has been completed i.e. the server side function has been executed successfully. I want the same to happen with Chrome and Firefox but it doesnt refresh the page once the server side function has been executed.

I have created dynamic control with both server and client side events.. if i set client side event server side event is not firing.. I have created the link button which will validate and do some necessary actions.. Validation is working but click event of link button is not firing .. if we remove the client side event , server side event is firing.. how to avoid this.. I want both events..
I am calling server side methids from client side using PageMethods. Can those methods return value back to client side. If yes then how and if no then how can that be achieved? refer to my code below.
I want to do something a little bit tricky here. I want to call a server side fonction from the javascript. I know it can be done but I get some errors. This is my Javascript fonction where I want to call the server side fonction:
I'm instantiating an asp:Button inside a data-bound asp:GridView through template fields. Some of the buttons are supposed to call a server-side function, but for some weird reason, it doesn't. All the buttons do when you click them is fire a postback to the current page, doing nothing, effectively just reloading the page.
Below is a fragment of the code:
[Code]....
The viewBtn above should call the viewBtnClick() function on server-side. I do have that function defined, along with a proper signature (object,EventArgs). One thing that may be of note is that this code is actually inside an ASCX, which is loaded in another ASCX, finally loaded into an ASPX.
I'm using Treeview control with asp.net 2.0. I would like to know how to get the client side events working. I don't want a post back for every little thing i do with the Treeview. Particularly i want to catch the node click event on the client side using java script, i want to enable/disable buttons based on the selected node. Is this possible? i tried some examples available on net but doesn't seem to be working.
to fire the OnClientClick event of the asp button on the server side (with out clicking the button,it has to fire automatically based on the condition).
I have a requirement of adding server side variables in client side and other way round. Because I need to set a value from client side using javascript and access the same in code behind page.
I have a list of items on an ASP.net page. That list is selectable in that whenever the user clicks on one, the page does a postback and the server code stores the index or some unique identifier of the picture in a ViewState property indicating that it is currently selected.
I would like to minimize the load on the server and therefore I would like to store the index or unique identifier representing the image in some way on the client side. The best way I can think to do this is to store said information in a hidden field ), however I had two questions about this before I go crazy:
Is this a security risk in any way, shape or form (i.e., exposing implementation details of the page)? Is there a better/best way to do this that is more industry-standard? Does ASP.net provide a framework to do this that is cleaner than my idea? Seems like this would be a fairly common requirement to me...
While working through some demos today I managed to trick VS 2008 somehow and I cannot access any server side events or variables in the code editor window. Hopefully
this screenshot will demonstrate exactly what I am missing. No matter what control I pick from my source I get the same drop down items overhead. What is quite weird is that when I drop new server side controls onto the source editor I can set the tag attributes for the events, but when I double click that event there is not an automatic created event handler with the same name created for me. Also, on the property pages there is no events image button (the one with the lightning bolt). The only property page items which have the events image button (lightning bolt) are the ajax toolkit controls. Already tried the "import all settings - VB Default" to blast away everything and no luck..
In my application, I have one Gridview on click button of one of the column I show Modal popup Extender. In Popup window I display another GridView with paging. And also I want to do operations such as Update, Delete and Add. As all these are Link buttons none of the event associated with them are firing.
Is there any way to execute server side events on Modal Popup Extender.
I have two comboboxes and would like pass selected value and text to the server method (RadComboBoxItemsRequestedEventArgs) when the first combobox selected index changed.
Here is my code. But I am getting Javascript error message at this line. RadComboBox2.requestItems(item, false).
I'm working on developing a custom control to select items from a predefined list. This is accomplished via 2 ASP.NET ListBox controls, with a few buttons to trigger the movement of ListItems from one ListBox to the other (lets call these ListBoxes lstSelected and lstDeselected).
This is easy enough to do in ASP.NET or JavaScript independently: I have both working. However, if modifications are made via JavaScript, ASP.NET retains no knowledge of this. Is there any way to register the creation of of options in a select tag without AJAX?
I've got a function I wrote quite some time ago that works fine, but I'd like to speed up the process and lessen server load by doing the same job in Javascript.I seem to be able to GET textbox values ok, but I can't seem to SET textbox values (I'm'-a JS noob). Can anyone lend a hand in converting my VB.NET code to it's JS equivalent?
