How To Access Any Server Side Events Or Variables In The Code Editor Window
Mar 1, 2010
While working through some demos today I managed to trick VS 2008 somehow and I cannot access any server side events or variables in the code editor window. Hopefully
this screenshot will demonstrate exactly what I am missing. No matter what control I pick from my source I get the same drop down items overhead. What is quite weird is that when I drop new server side controls onto the source editor I can set the tag attributes for the events, but when I double click that event there is not an automatic created event handler with the same name created for me. Also, on the property pages there is no events image button (the one with the lightning bolt). The only property page items which have the events image button (lightning bolt) are the ajax toolkit controls. Already tried the "import all settings - VB Default" to blast away everything and no luck..
Just I started learning MVC pattern, of course i am learning it from Microsoft's website.Just i want to gather quiz information from the experts. My understanding is (correct me then and there)
1 ) MVC does not support server side events, but supports client side events. If it supports client side events, I need html page with jQuery/Javascript (view), but most of the example I absorbed is to display the information(model) in view, I did not see any client side event handling happens in view.
2) Except ViewState and controlState, MVC supports Sessions, Application State management, Cache management.
3) When request goes to MVC engine, the routing module routes the request that is picked up by the controller. The controller in executes the appropriate action and returns the appropriate view.
I've got a Jquery function that I wrote which blacks out the screen after a certain amount of inactivity, creates a pop-up that allows the user to click a button to stay logged in, and logs them out (closing the application window) if they do not respond in time.
The environment is ASP.NET (VB). We don't technically use master pages, but we do have a parent page in which our header, footer and nav reside, and my Jquery code is called from that window, loaded via an IFrame. My problem is that if one is working in a child window, the parent window doesn't recognize that the system is in use, and will automatically engage at the allocated time.I've tried everything under the sun I can think of and nothing works properly. My event handler is working, and it does call the parent window function, but the timer is not being reset.
I have this function in the parent window:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function window.reportChildActivity() { SESSION_ALIVE = true; [code]....
I open a popup window by client code. Now I want to do some calculation on this popup window & if it success then I want to save the calculation result in a session variable and close the window. I mean I want to click a button on popup window, it will do some calculation on server side and if it success the it will store the calculation result in a session variable and close the popup window.
I have created dynamic control with both server and client side events.. if i set client side event server side event is not firing.. I have created the link button which will validate and do some necessary actions.. Validation is working but click event of link button is not firing .. if we remove the client side event , server side event is firing.. how to avoid this.. I want both events..
In the video here [URL] Joe adds event stubs to his code by selecting them from the drop down in upper right portion of the code window. I can do this in VB, but not C#. Is this feature only available in VB? Is there a setting I must adjust in C#? Is there a way in C# to get a stub for the (for example) OnPreInit event?
I have a question, I am writing a user tracking class that needs to obtain the screen resolution of the user. I have the javascript all written and it is working along with a hidden variable ( used to set the javascript vars so I can access them server side ). What I am running into is when I try to access the value of the hidden variable on Page load it's not there, but If I cause a post back I can get it. How can I access this data on page load? There is no guarantee that the user will ever cause a postback, some users just look at the home page and leave.
I want to integrate paypal inside my shopping cart. For that it requires a html form to be embeded inside .aspx page with the action to paypal and method is post. Inside that form there are some hidden input filed. I want to assign one of those hidden field's value from server side code so i need to access that filed from server side. But how? Here is my form:
I'm using an asp:TextBox as the wmd-input. As the user clicks the submit button I wan't to capture the markdown at server side as the Text property of my asp:TextBox control. However, instead of the expected markdown, my TextBox at server-side contains the HTML formatted version of the markdown: <h1>testing</h1>
How do I get the pure markdown? PS: At client side I see markdown on the asp:TextBox. It's not clear for me when it's getting converted to HTML before post-back.
How to call server side event(textchanged) in javascript. When the user enters the data in text box and directly closing the page with out allowing the textbox to fire the textchanged event when textbox autopostback property set to true. Now i want is when the user closes the page the changed text in textbox should affect the database and textchanged event should fire only once.
Is there a way to assign/pass/copy a javascript variable to a server side variable in C#? For the sake of argument, let's say that I was able to parse some JSON for variables that I want to store and assign them on the client (ie. var = FirstName and var = 25 and var = someDateTime, etc) .
I have a requirement of adding server side variables in client side and other way round. Because I need to set a value from client side using javascript and access the same in code behind page.
I'm using Treeview control with asp.net 2.0. I would like to know how to get the client side events working. I don't want a post back for every little thing i do with the Treeview. Particularly i want to catch the node click event on the client side using java script, i want to enable/disable buttons based on the selected node. Is this possible? i tried some examples available on net but doesn't seem to be working.
I have a page wich opens a popup window. I want to pass some variables, like some textbox.text and 2 dataTables from parent window to the popup window. And then I'll have to return some vars from popup window to parent window. So what is the best way to do this,
I don't know if it's appropiated passing 8 or 10 variables as the option2 because the user will see a very long url with all the variables, but maybe is more efficient than using Sessions.... Anyway, could somebody clear me up?
I have a Master Page which controls the styling of my site. In the Code Behind, there are a few class instances instantiated as well as variables. These classes validate user access and then create user objects
I have a few Web Content Forms which carries out instructions based on the user objects. So far it seems that on each Web Content Form I have to create new instances of the classes found on the Master Page. This is doubling my work for every Web Content Form.
Is there anyway I can inhereit Classes and objects instantiated in the Master Page Code Behind?
I was wondering if anyone had an easy way to wire up javascript event handlers to events happening on the server-side. I have a long running process that includes a lot of steps, and would like the client to be continually updated with new information as the steps transition. Will this involve some sort of polling mechanism?
In my application, I have one Gridview on click button of one of the column I show Modal popup Extender. In Popup window I display another GridView with paging. And also I want to do operations such as Update, Delete and Add. As all these are Link buttons none of the event associated with them are firing.
Is there any way to execute server side events on Modal Popup Extender.
in a form i have a buttoin, when click both OnclientClick and postback should happen. on clicking the "Email" button a client side "mailto" tag should do the work and pull a new message window on the client's machine.
whereas, the email addresses should be invoked by the post back. so , when clicking the button the server side post should happen and on return the client side script should be invokded with the values read during post back, and populate all the email addresses.
i need know how to first do a server hit take the values and then execute the client script with those values without using AJAX
If I have a standard HTML textbox: I can retrieve the value using Request.Form. But how do I go about populating this textbox from the server-side? I tried Request.Form["txtTest"] = "blah"; but got a readonly error.
