Checking Number Of Rows In Dataview?

I want to check that the row index I specify is below the row count so it doesn't throw the error
Index 2 is either negative or above rows count.
how would I achieve this with my code?

I'm trying to filter a DataView to return all the rows whose column x starts with a number: The following works in SQL Server:
select *
from dbo.Page
where Name like '[0-9]%'
However, when I try this:
dataView = new DataView( someDataTable, "Name LIKE '[0-9]%'", "Name ASC", DataViewRowState.CurrentRows);
I get "invalid parameter [0-9] with Operator Like" error message. What is the correct syntax to achieve my goal?

How to select top n rows from a datatable/dataview in asp.net.currently I am using the following code by passing the table and number of rows to get the records but is there a better way.

I need to expose a Web service which will provide an array/DataTable of 20 rows (average) of data - certainly no more than 100 rows would ever be needed. The largest item in these rows would be a date.The Web service would be called by a separate Web site in order to display these 20 (approx.) rows in a GridView/DataView. I would have to be able to dynamically choose which domain to go to and find the Web service.I would possibly have to secure the Web service with a password but this is not vital (possibly with soap headers over https).
My question is what technologies should I use to create this Web service? I know enough about .asmx Web services to struggle through and get this working, but should I get a book on WCF and learn that instead?I use AJAX and jQuery so am also wondering if I should be using one of those client side, to call the Web service and populate the grid?

I have 5 tables as follows
as it can be seen from diagram, I have one table ie.patientdetails with Pid as primary key and other 4 tables have pid which is foreign key related to Pid in patient details.
the problem is that when if a test data is filled for say patient with Pid as 1, the data is saved nicely in required tables
If i try doing that again for same patient then a duplicate is created in test tables with pid as 1.

To Add new row to a dataset table, I am using code below. Before adding this how do I check if that row has already been added to the dataset?
Example:

Web application - C#, .Net, SQL 2k5.I recently used bulkinsert on an other application and I thought I would like to give it a try.
I am going to receive a CSV file with 1000 rows, which will most likely add 500 000 (that is five hundred thousand) records in the database.I don't have any idea yet about this huge amount if it's going to work out well. I am afraid that it will time out.
I didn't do any testing yet, but I am pretty sure it would time out eventually.
Is there a way to make it not time out (I don't know ... split the bulkinsert into 1000 pieces :D) or I should try to do something like BCP, with a SQL job ...

i use sql server 2005 and Visual Studio 2008.
I am using asp.ne and vb.net for my website.
i have a table with number of rows 50,000.
i want to display the number of rows at my table in a Label when the page is on load.
so can u give me the code or the hint?
my second question is.
my table has around 50,000 items.
and i have a search box, it look like this
str= select * from mytable where item='car'
the item Car is located in my table in row number of 45,000.
i guess when i search from the table where the item is car, then it will search row by rows, then as the number of rows become huge, it will be so late to find the result.
so is there any method how to search from table with good speed of searching?

I have a dropdown list. This is a bound to a column in Table which has around 200 entires.Now when a user clicks on the drop down list I want him to see not more than 10 rows. The rest he should navigate by using scroll bars.

this way it subtracts the header, however, how can i make it so if it is 0 dont subtract the -1 because i dont want negatives
