Create RouteUrls With Databound Parameters Declaratively?

May 29, 2010

I'm using the new Routing feature in ASP.NET 4 (Web forms, not MVC). Now I have an asp:ListView which is bound to a datasource. One of the properties is a ClientID which I want to use to link from the ListView items to another page. In global.asax I have defined a route:

System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("ClientRoute",
"MyClientPage/{ClientID}", "~/Client.aspx");

so that for instance http://server/MyClientPage/2 is a valid URL if ClientID=2 exists.In the ListView items I have an asp:HyperLink so that I can create the link:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLinkClient" runat="server"
NavigateUrl='<%# "~/MyClientPage/"+Eval("ClientID") %>' >
Go to Client details

[code]...

C# - Which Databound Control Should Be Use For Nested Databound Controls?

Dec 7, 2010

I want to render something like this (with ASP.Net Controls in the codebehind):

<ul>
<li class="first"><h1>This is a caption</h1></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo1</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo2</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo3</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo4</a></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li class="first"><h1>This is a another caption</h1></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo5</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo6</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo7</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo8</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo9</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo10</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo11</a></li>
</ul>

The amount of li elements that will be rendered into each ul is determined at runtime. Each link in a li belongs to into a specific ul (the one containing a specific caption. Imagine this as a kind of a treeview with nodes and subnodes) During the bind Event I need access to an ASP:HyperLink that will be rendered into the a-element. Which databound ASP.Net control should I pick for this? Looks like a repeater in a repeater, which should make the databinding process ugly. I'm thinking about creating this HTML-Output with StringWriters myself.

Can Declaratively Set The Style Property Of A Web Control

Jan 11, 2010

I've noticed that on aspx page IntelliSense doesn't display the Style property of a web control, even thought the control does have a Style property. Does that mean we shouldn't declaratively set the Style property:

<asp:TextBox ID="UserName" Style="color:Green; padding:0px; margin:0px;" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

Add A Custom / Namespaced XHTML Attribute To A Web Control Declaratively?

Aug 24, 2010

Normally, unknown attributes of a webcontrol are passed through to to the rendered element in the browser. So the following works.

<asp:label runat="server" Text="Label Text" helpId="101" />

However, if you use a namespaced attribute like the following

<asp:label runat="server" Text="Label Text" myNs:helpId="101" /></div>

The attribute is not rendered to the client, even when the custom namespace is declared in the html element like: <html xmlns= [URL] Does anyone know of a way to get this to render to the client, without having to use a custom control. A module or other globally "pluggable" solution would be acceptable.

Missing Intelligence While Describing Custom Control Properties Declaratively

May 21, 2010

I've been working on this project for a few days now, and have been unable to resolve the issue of getting intellisense support for my custom-defined inner properties for a user control (ascx, mind you). I have seen the solution to this (using server controls, .cs mind you) many times. Spelled out in this article very well. Everything works for me while using ascx controls except intellisense. Here's the outline of my code:

[PersistChildren(true)]
[ParseChildren(typeof(BreadCrumbItem))]
[ControlBuilder(typeof(BreadCrumbItem))]
public partial class styledcontrols_buttons_BreadCrumb : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
...
[PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerDefaultProperty)]
public List<BreadCrumbItem> BreadCrumbItems
{
get { return _breadCrumbItems; }
set { _breadCrumbItems = value; }
}
...
protected override void AddParsedSubObject(object obj)
{
base.AddParsedSubObject(obj);
if (obj is BreadCrumbItem)
BreadCrumbItems.Add(obj as BreadCrumbItem);
}
...
public class BreadCrumbItem : ControlBuilder
{
public string Text { get; set; }
public string NavigateURL { get; set; }
public override Type GetChildControlType(string tagName, System.Collections.IDictionary attribs)
{
if (String.Compare(tagName, "BreadCrumbItem", true) == 0)
{
return typeof(BreadCrumbItem);
}
return null;
}
}
}

Here's my mark up (which works fine, just no intellisense on the child object declarations):

<%@ Register src="../styledcontrols/buttons/BreadCrumb.ascx" tagname="BreadCrumb" tagprefix="uc1" %>
...
<uc1:BreadCrumb ID="BreadCrumb1" runat="server" BreadCrumbTitleText="Current Page">
<BreadCrumbItem Text="Home Page" NavigateURL="~/test/breadcrumbtest.aspx?iwentsomewhere=1" />
<BreadCrumbItem Text="Secondary Page" NavigateURL="~/test/breadcrumbtest.aspx?iwentsomewhere=1" />
</uc1:BreadCrumb>

I think the issue lies with how the intellisense engine traverses supporting classes. All the working examples I see of this are not ascx, but Web Server Controls (cs, in a compiled assembly).

Custom Server Controls :: Declaratively Adding ListItem(s) To DropDownList In A UserControl?

May 13, 2010

[VS 2010 RC1, .NET 4.0, VB.NET]

I'm working with a simple UserControl someone at my company created. It's basically just a DropDownList with a RequiredFieldValidator and some added properties (such as "Required", which controls the CSS styling of the DropDownList and whether the RequiredFieldValidator is Enabled or not).

Here is an example of the UserControl usage where a SqlDataSource is used to populate the ListItemCollection. I'm trying to specify an intial ListItem below (and would like the ability to add multilple ListItems if necessary) but can't seem to get this to work...

[Code]....

My code-behind looks as follows:

[Code]....

I've found several posts related to this but cannot seem to get the declarative ListItem to be added to the DropDownList.

I understand that using a WebControl is another option, but I'd like to learn how to get this method to work if possible.

SQL Reporting :: Create Parameters In A MDX Query?

Aug 19, 2010

I am new to MDX and Sql Server Analysis Service and I've searched this high and low and read a lot of articles, but cannot figure out how.I know this is tough after reading so many articles online, and thus I am only trying my slim chance of getting something helpful from here. I need to create a sales report and want to parameterize the region, so, I'd like to have something likeSELECT blah blahFROM [MySsasWarehouse]WHERE @regionThe @region may take values such as [USA].[Northeast].[New Hampshire], for example.How do I make this happen with MDX? I learned that I can doSELECT blah blahFROM [MySsasWarehouse]WHERE STRTOMEMBER('[USA].[Northeast].[New Hampshire]')But, I have no idea how to have something like STRTOMEMBER(@region)and to be able to pass values to that @region variable.

In the end I would like to create a SSRS report using this MDX query and pass different values to @region. Do NOT point me to articles about how to pass parameters to SSRS, because I know how to do it through the URL query string.My question is How to create parameters for MDX query per se, and I haven't been successful in attempting to do so.

Error Creating Control - ListView1

The 'CssClass' property cannot be set declaratively.

BTW, does ListView support horizontal/vertical scroll bar? As I might have about 50 records in maximum, so need to have horizontal and vertical scroll bars. But do not need paging.

MVC :: MVC3 RC2 Bug Binding From Request Parameters To Method Parameters?

Dec 10, 2010

Since ASP.NET MVC3 RC2 I encounter a bug when posting values to a controller method of which one of the parameter is a nullable int. Steps to reproduce:

I've created a test method

[code]....

In MVC3 RC1 this was working without any problems with the nullable int

Update:
I don't seem to have the problem with a newly created MVC3 website. What could I have in my project that influence model binding to nullable int's? And why would there be a difference between RC1 and RC2?

How To Get The Individual Parameters From The List Of Dynamic Parameters In A Webmethod

May 12, 2010

I am using jquery ajax method on my aspx page,which will invoke the webmethod in the code behind.Currently the webmethod takes a couple of parameters like firstname,lastname,address etc which I am passing from jquery ajax method using

data:JSON.stringify({fname:firstname,lname:lastname,city:city})

now my requirement has been changed such that,the number and type of parameters that are going to be passed is not fixed for ex.parameter combination can be something like fname,city or fname,city or city,lname or fname,lname,city or something else.So the webmethod should be such that it should accept any number parameters.I thought of using arrays to do so, as described here.

But I do not understand how can I identify which and how many parameters have been passedto the webmethod to insert/update the data to the DB.

C# - How To Read QueryString Parameters From A Url That's Going To Be Re-written And Hide Those Parameters In The New Re-written URL

Jan 3, 2011

I have two examples to show you what I want to achieve here. But to point what's different about my question, Is that I'm having a parametrized URLs and I want to implement URL rewriting to my application. But I don't want to convert the parameter in the URL to be placed between slashes..."page.aspx?number=one" to "pages/one/" << NOT!

First example:

http://localhost:1820/Pages/Default.aspx?page=2&start=5
To
http://localhost:1820/Pages/page2

Second example:

http://localhost:1820/Items/Details.aspx?item=3
To
http://localhost:1820/Items/ItemName

But I'll still need all the parameters in the original URLs
