Create A Databound Checkbox List Using Linq-sql?

View 1 RepliesI need to pull a list of supplies from a db table and list them along with two textboxes (one for quantity, and another for manufacturer)
so the list would look something like this.
checkbox for supply 1 | Quantity | Manufacturer
checkbox for supply 2 | Quantity | Manufacturer
..
I also need to store all of the checked items in a db table. I'm not sure how i should go about doing this. I've heard some talk about a repeater control being useful but i've not come across any examples that do this type of thing.
i have a check box list control that is used for showing related files to some post.
what i want to do is set the databound items "checked" to true by default
then,
if a user unchecks some item and clicks the save button. then the selectedindexchanged will fire and i will do some logic.
what i have done is.
--Set All Databound items to "checked" --
[code]....
in the end i want the item that was unchecked to be removed (all other items will remain checked). but even before that, when the user control is loaded all the files that were bounded are being deleted by the index change event.
How can I create a comma separated string of selected checkbox values if my checkbox is of type IEnumerable?
View 5 RepliesI want to create something like this using a DataList and Flow markup:
|-----------------------|
| Title |
|-----------------------|
| [x] Title |
| [x] Title |
| ... |
-------------------------
I have a table (modeled in Linq2Sql) Foo that has these fields
int id;
int? parentId;
string title;
Foo Parent;
EntitySet<Foo> Children;
Now, when there is a null parent, it means it's a top level category, and if the parent has a value, it's part of the category list.
I have created a DataList, and used a LinqDataSource with a query that looks like this:
[Code].....
This obviously doesn't work. How can I utilize the Children collection in a repeater of a DataList item?
I am trying to create linq from A list:
[Code]....
But I always get this error:

I'm using this class to do search:[URL]
how to compare to checkbox list and show selected in first checkbox list

I have a databound dropdownlist and have a problem with the default value it selects.When I attempt to edit a record the dropdownlist shows the first value in the list rather than the current value. I want the dropdown list to display the current value.
I'm sure this is very simple but I'm very new to ASP.NET.
I'm using .NET version 4.
1) For some reason the MainDivision column in this is displaying bold and centered (the rest are left and not bold). Anybody see something that creeped into this markup that might be causing this?
HTML Code:
[code]....
2) How can I add a non-databound checkbox to a gridview? It only seems to appear if I bind it to something, but I want it so the user can check which rows he wants to perform an action against, so it has no value other than UI interaction.
Ive searched everywhere for this but cant find the answer. I have used the following code before to change repeated items properties in an asp.net repeater as after they have been bound to do things i couldnt do prior to binding them.
protected void rowRepeater_ItemBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e)
{
foreach (RepeaterItem item in rptStockists.Items)
{
}
}
Now i am wanting to do something similar but with a chekbox list. i want to change the colour of the labels and i know i can only do this after the list has been bound. I have notice checkboxlists only provide the parameter OnDataBound in intellisense, doesnt give me OnItemDataBound that repeaters do. What would be the equivalent i could use here?
I have a datagrid which is bound to a stored procedure in the code behind. This works fine. But the datagrid contains a checkbox which I need to be default checked. First I didn't bind the checkbox and just used:
<ItemTemplate> <asp:CheckBox ID="chkSelection" Runat="server" Checked= "true" /> </ItemTemplate>
but they show as unchecked. then bound it using:
<ItemTemplate>
So I am uding a GridView bound to a SQL data source.
I have a template feild bound to a SQL BIT
<EditItemTemplate <asp:CheckBox ID="chkSelected" runat="server" Checked='<%# Bind("Selected") %>
The original Item Template was Enabled ="false" I changed this so that you did not have to set the row to a state of edit in order to just select a row. I enabled it so that you could "select" any row with out putting it in a state of edit. the only value changing is if its selected or not. What i am trying to do is use the Data Source Update method to update the bit in the database based on the check box. Currently Update() returns 0. I believe this is because the row/feild is not marked as changed so the Data Source does not see it as something that needs to be updated.
What I am hoping for out of this is post is a way that the rows whom check value has changed to be marked as changed/edited so that the data source will update the database with the values of the check boxes. If all rows are updated this is acceptable as well. I know this is a super simple solution but i have been out of the .NET for a little bit.
I am creating a database frontend in aspx/C# using LINQ to MSSQL. It has two pages: a main page which lists all of the records, and a page that appears when the user click the "Edit" button next to one of the list items for the user to edit a record.The database table has about 70 user-editable fields. I need to make the edit page, allowing the user to update/insert records. There are a couple ways I can think of make an edit page:Using a LinqDataSource and FormViewUsing a LinqDataSource and DetailsViewManually retrieve the value for each field and set the value for each field directly from Linq (e.g. "projectIDLabel.Text = Convert.ToString(thisRecord.Project_ID)"What would be the best way to design this?
View 4 RepliesI am absoluetly confused. My web app has a checkbox list that my code is looking to see if the user checked it. Like I said, very simple stuff... Here's the code:
If (chkLaunch.Items(1).Selected) Then
Launch = 1
End If
The odd thing is that when it gets to this bit of code it just moves right past it like it wasn't checked. The same thing happens when I use a single checkbox (rather than a checkbox list). I've tried a bunch of different ways to make the code work but I'm left to the conclusion that I'm just not telling it to do this correctly. Either that or my project is messed up somehow.I say that my project is messed up because when I add an object to the page in Design mode, it doesn't write the source code. So when I save and close, all the modifications are mysteriously gone. This happens on multiple PC's...So, is the checkbox problem just me not doing something correctly or is my web project messed up?
How can i generate dropdown lists based on what has been selected in the checckbox list. Below is an example of what i need. if the user selects the options day, lotID and waferID, then 3 cascading dropdown lists should be displayed. And then a gridview displays data based on what has been chosen in the dropdown lists.
Day
LotID
SlotID
WaferID
VendorID
ToolID
LocationDetected
ProcessStep
Stage
Precipe
WaferStartMaterial
WaferStartVendor
WaferStartLot
WaferDiameterCOA
WaferMapTitle
BreakPoint
BreakpointSide

I have a situation where I want to show the selected records out of total records for a product of an employee
1) There is a checkbox list bind to <List> of objects from object datasource (For total items in list)
2) Now I want to check the selected items for a particular record in this list
3) For this purpose I have another list of <List> selected items returned by data access layer (For selected items for that employee )
4) How do I bind the selected objects with the total items list ?
5) In spaghetti coding model it was all too easy just by binding the checkbox list with a sql data source and running a for each on form load
I have a drop down list that is populated in the page load event from a database table. The drop down has a DataTextField set to a project name and the DataValueField set to the project id (interger). Later I change the dropdowlist selected item with this code in the selectedindexchanged event of a gridview
GridViewRow row = GridView1.SelectedRow;
ddlProjectList.SelectedItem.Text = row.Cells[2].Text;
Does Changing the drop down list with this code cause the DataValueField property to change to the correct Project ID number also? If not is there a better way to do this? actually this code seems to be adding an additional item to the list so that the project i set with this code is listed twice so I don't think my code is correct
ddlCats.DataSource = listOfCats;
ddlCats.DataBind();
If an item contains say, &, it will appear in the ddl as &
How can I stop this? I am using asp.net
i have multiple drop down lists and using the DataBount event to insert an initial value to populate the drop down list, which does exactly what i want it to do. however, now i have put a required validation control on it and the validation never gets triggered because of my value i insert using this code below. anyway i can get my validation control to avoid the databout value?

I have a simple databound dropdownlist. On top, I have a default selection, '--Please Select--', followed by another default selection, '-- Other --'. Here's the script:
[Code]....
Now, my user wants the '--other--' selection to appear on the BOTTOM of the dropdown as opposed to right sfter '--Please select--'. How do I accomplish this?
I am struggling to create a webservice method using LINQ technology and to populate a dropdown in a form. Here is the Webservice code.
[WebMethod]
public
string[] GetAllCountries()
{
LinqClassesDataContext db =
new
LinqClassesDataContext();
var q =
from c
in db.ListContinents()select
c;
return q.ToList() ;
}
And here is the form code behind
protectedvoid
Page_Load(object sender,
EventArgs e)
{
WSClass WS =
new
WSClass();//bool
ds = WS.GetAllCountries();
var v = WS.GetAllCountries();
ddlContinent.DataSource = v;
ddlContinent.DataBind();
}
I'm using the new Routing feature in ASP.NET 4 (Web forms, not MVC). Now I have an asp:ListView which is bound to a datasource. One of the properties is a ClientID which I want to use to link from the ListView items to another page. In global.asax I have defined a route:
System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("ClientRoute",
"MyClientPage/{ClientID}", "~/Client.aspx");
so that for instance http://server/MyClientPage/2 is a valid URL if ClientID=2 exists.In the ListView items I have an asp:HyperLink so that I can create the link:
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLinkClient" runat="server"
NavigateUrl='<%# "~/MyClientPage/"+Eval("ClientID") %>' >
Go to Client details

How would I go about displaying a databound dropdown list in a property grid, i.e. a dynamic list that can be used to set the value of an individual property?
View 1 RepliesI dont want to use asp.net's TreeView control. I want to create a custom template databound control with multi template support like -
<asp:MtNavigationControl>
<ItemTemplate>

</ItemTemplate>
<SelectedItemTemplate>
...
...
</SelectedItemTemplate>
<ParentItemTemplate>
...

</ParentSelectedItemTemplate>
<SelectedParentItemTemplate>

</SelectedParentSelectedItemTemplate>
</asp:MtNavigationControl>
My data is like -
class Employee
{
string EmployeeName
List<Employee> Employees
}
Does anyone know how to accomplish it?
I have this so far but kind of stuck on how to do it programtically if I'm using header and content templates I have a xmldatasource..In a nutshell at what point in my code do I need to create a new accordion? does it need to be in the item_databound handler?
