Create Few Custom Webcontrols Wrapping Some Existing Controls?
Feb 28, 2011
I'm trying to create a few custom web controls wrapping some existing controls. One of them, for instance, is a wrap for a textbox (because I need additional behaviors such as corresponding validators). The problem is, I'm not sure how to get the data of that control to be sent in the postback.
I have some (probably very basic) questions about developing custom controls. I am wanting to derive a set of button controls, and the first one I have started on is a "DeleteButton", that has a additional property (DeleteConfirmationText) that is built into the OnClientClick attribute. To get that added, I overrode the Render method as follows:
[Code]....
This all works well. Now, I will add some logic to make sure that there is some text in the DeleteConfirmationText property, but that isn't the intent of my question. What I am also wanting to do is to override some of the default property values, so I added that to the default constructor:
[Code]....
Now, in the designer in VS2008, and I look at the properties for the control, there isn't a default value shown in the "Properties" section, and the Causesvalidation still shows the underlying classes default value of "True". As well, in design mode, where the GridView control that containse my DeleteButton control would be displayed, there is an error box "There was an error rendering the control. 'Are you certain you want to delete this attorney?' cound not be set on property 'DeleteConfirmationText'. Here's the markup where I am defining the deletebutton control:
This is my first "request for help" post - I've spent the past few weeks helping others, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light here.I've dealt with server controls before, so it's not new to me, but it was some time ago and I'm a bit rusty. I have an inherited calendar control, that works fine:
[Code]....
I've overriden the Render method, hoping to be able to modify the HTML output of the control - I want to hide the back arrow if the Month & Year in MinDate is reached in the calendar, and the same goes for MaxDate and the forward arrow. On top of this, I want to be able to display icons in the day cells, under certain data-bound conditions. Once I've figured one out, I'm sure I'll be able to work the other one out.Are there any other methods, events or properties more suitable for this? Are there any other controls that do what I'm looking for that I've maybe overlooked?I'm using C#.Net 4.0 Webforms - it's a very small app, so I've not used MVC etc... just a few LINQ queries to the database.
I want to know if it is possible to extend the properties of a button and possibly override the render() method?I know how to create a custom server control and that is not what I want to do.I have a lot of web application that need to inject some java script on the button render event based on a new properties value. So what I want to do is extend the properties and hook into the Render method of the button control that ships with .net, I want to do it this way then I can still use the default button control but am able to effect all of the buttons in all of the web applications by simply re-publishing them.Inheriting from the System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button class enables me to add the property but then I have to register the "new" control and I have to go and change all of the buttons in all of the web applications.
I want to create a custom control where I define several specifically named DIV sections. The code-behind logic of the custom control will perform operations on these named DIV sections. The page where the custom control is hosted needs to be able to add named controls to the DIV sections and perform operations on these named controls added to the DIV sections.
Let me explain a little further. In the custom control, I want to have code behind logic that fires the following Page Event and uses a condition to make one or another specifically named DIV section visible or not:
< _ ToolboxData("<{0}:BaseDetails runat=""server""></{0}:BaseDetails>") _ > _ Public Class BaseDetails
[code]...
how can I create a custom control which is able to generate the named DIV sections "DetailsNameDiv1" and "DetailsNameDiv2" where my custom control can check a condition and make one or the other visible. Also, I need to be able to add controls to these named DIV sections when I host the custom control and the control that I add to the named DIV section needs to let me set values of these controls from the code behind logic of the page (or usercontrol) where the custom control is being hosted (in my example, I am adding TextBox controls that I want to set the Text property from a SQL Data Reader).
I have currently on multiple pages a modal popup that displays the information below, we are getting to the point where we need to call this popup from multiple locations, currently i have duplicate setups on each page that i want to use it on, but its becoming a mess to manage when a change is needed.. so im looking to see if what i have within the modal popup can be turned into a control that i can call anywhere thru out the site and have just 1 setup to maintain going forward..If its possible to create a control that can then be placed within the modal popup and server the same purpose that would be great any links here is what i have within the modal popup that i have on atleast 3 pages currently..
I want to create a custom Toolbox in asp.net which will contain all custom control that i have made. Now the user will drag these controls from custom toolbox at run time and create form. I tried but did not succeeded.
I am trying to create a web custom control but I am unable to find the templete that should be in my projects window. I am using Visual Studio Pro and it should be there. Doc's say standard version doesn't have it but thats all I can find.
I am creating a custom control and had a thought before I began. My control relies on the jQuery library to work. What if the user already has a version of the library already on their page. Will this effect anything? If my version is newer / older and my control will only work with that version of the libaray, what should I do?
I am going to create some custom controls to use them in different projects. Therefore I found some helpful content on microsoft's support sites. These again dealt with overriding the html-render-method, but I am still wondering if this is the most elegant way, because in my opinion this just means outsourcing of some code from the view to the class file.Do I misunderstand the way of how custom controls should be used?
I have a page that is essentially a group of controls on top, a button in the middle and a DataGrid at the bottom.
I wanted some asynchronous code to get ran; so I wrapped the bottom DataGrid in an UpdatePanel and made the button in the middle as the async trigger. This is working great. However, the button also needs to clear out the values of the controls up top after it adds to the bottom DataGrid.
The code to clear these controls out gets ran, but nothing changes on screen. I assume this is because the top controls need to be wrapped in an UpdatePanel as well. I did this, but I'm having a problem.
One of the controls up top is an asp:ImageButton. Clicking on this button executes a handler for the click event in the VB code behind. This VB constructs a Javascript snippet that opens a new window with a different page (don't ask me why it is done this way). That VB code gets executed, but nothing happens.
I have a gridview and a css file that is giving it a style, colors, font style etcThe gridview is showing blog comments in it.If someone posts hyperlink in the blog comments, the gridview width gets increasedOnly in mozilla the hyperlink is getting wrapped and works fine but in I.E, opera, safari, chrome and all other browsers the wdith of the gridview is going out of the page.In my css. style sheet also i have defined width:.grid
I have a gridView that returns 12 columns / Fields. I want to only allow 6 columns per row and on the 7th have the 7th column move below the first 6. Example: ...
I have a gridView that I want to only show 5 columns per "Row". To explain, lets say I have a gridView that has a total of 20 columns. Normally this would mean that the grid would show all 20 columns in a single row side by side:col1 col2 col3 col4 col5 col6 col7 col8 col9 col10 ... etcI want it to instead show the columns underneath each other like so:
of course the prespective data associated with the columns would show below each column header.I have read some posts and they are pointing me to a repeator but I am not sure how I would impliment a method like that. Any suggestions / examples of ways you have done so or read about?
In my project's earlier version I used Stored Procedures (SPs) & directly used them inside presentation layer. SP contains multiple Insert & Update queries for multiple tables.
Now I have decided to use a DAL(Typed DataSets & TableAdapters)
How can i use the same SPs with TableAdapters or If not possible how to wrap Multiple TableAdapters inside Transactions.
1 more thing in my earlier version i was using Transaction in SPs & Presentation Layer.
I want to create a custom web part in SharePoint 2007 that allows me to take items from an existing custom list (i.e. Title, Hyperlink, Description and photo) and then render it in a format of my choice. How can I do this using C# asp.net and a web part?

It prompts me to "create new web site" but when I try I am prompted to authenticate but it will not accept my credentials. What is the proper procedure to create a new subweb on an existing website from Web Express 2008?
