Error - The Current Identity (NT Authority/Network Service) Does Not Have Write Access...
Jan 17, 2011
i developed a simple web application. A label and a button. On click of Button, the label will display Hello World.
When I deploy this web application on my web server and access the URL, I get this error message.
The current identity (NT Authority/Network Service) does not have write access to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files
I have tried the following -
Navigate to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 and typed the following command -
aspnet_regiis -ga "NT AuthorityNetwork Service"
After that also, it did not work.
We checked the permissions of the folder Temporary ASP.NET Files and for the Network Service user, we checked the Security Permissions and it has all the permissions as required.
I have installed and repaired .NET 4.0 already, and I can not figure out why IIS will not run 4.0 applications. I am running Windows 2003 R2, Sp2. IIS 6.0 I created a new ASP.NET Application in Visual Studio 2010, and published it to a site on my IIS. In IIS, I have selected it to run with 4.0, and my web.config also says to compile in 4.0 My First error was : Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. (C:Inetpub...web.config line 22)
After some research, I found that my IIS had no v4.0 Web Service Extension setup. I thought this was odd, but I manually added it. New error was : The current identity (NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE) does not have write access to
C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319Temporary ASP.NET Files'.
After some research, I found I needed to add this folder, and give all rights to it. I know something is wrong, I shouldn't have to do this. My application is still erroring.. failing to load my ReportViewer :
Exception message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
My research and I think my aspnet_regiis did not run properly.. so I trieto run this myself: but I get this error!!
-aspnet_regiis.exe - Application Error
-The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I got this error when I try to browse my default.aspx and I think this problem cause from my web.config. Take a look on my web.config file.

I am getting "Access Denied" error when I am trying to write a file on my hard drive (C:/.... xmls/test.xml) from a webservice which is also on my local machine.
The folder structure is like this
AdminApp (Web Folder on C drive) - WebServices Folder - TestService.asmx -Xmls Folder - Test.xml
I tried following settings in IIS in my efforts to resolve the issue:
- Set anonynmous access checked with my account name and password under "Account Used for anonymous access" alongwith integrated windows authentication checked. I am a admin on my machine.
- Disabled anonymous access with only integrated windows authentication checked. I have identity impersonate = true set in my web.config.
In the IIS, it shows that the web app (i'm using) is using an application pool that uses NETWORK SERVICE account for identity. But when I debug/run my web app, User.Identity.Name shows that my windows user login instead. I checked my web.config file, and it does not have Impersonate enabled. In fact, I set it to false, and it still shows the same.
I wrote WCF service and i by creating new Web Sites - i added new WCF service that will host my WCF service.
In the 'Web location' i define the service to be HTTP and the URL to be "http://localhost/MyService"
Now i want to access thru some other machine ( in the same network ) to my machine and get using the Service method that my WCF service exposed - but i fail each time ( calling from the second machine "http://a.b.c.d/MyService/interfaceMethodName")
If i try to call the web service thru the same machine - i get the right response.
First, I felt I had a clear understanding of how the Network Service account work. It is the default account ASP.Net runs under and has very limited access. I have verified in the Application Pool that ASP.Net is running under the Network Service Account. I have a UNC file share that is located on another server, let us say "\myservermyfiles". I have logged on to "MyServer" and right-clicked on the shared folder "myfiles" and just for the sake of testing, went to the Shared Tab->Permissions and added the Network Service account and gave it "change and read" access. I then went to the Security Tab, added the Network Service account and gave it all permissions. For some reason, I am still getting an "access denied" exception. I know impersonation is an option at some point, but I would really like to know why my ASP.Net application cannot copy a file to this share just for my own personal understanding given the fact that I gave the Network Service account the proper access. Like always, I will continue to research.
Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.
My ASP.NET MVC 2 application runs under built-in local NETWORK SERVICE account. I want to set up access permissions for the folder which resides in another computer, but in the same domain. I located that folder right-clicked to open its properties form, clicked to Security tab and pressed Add button which displayed Add user form with correct domain name in the location field. I referred to the account with following syntax:
<domain name><server name>$
because I learned that NETWORK SERVICE account uses machine account when connected to other computers in the domain. However, the system couldn't find the account, so refuses to add the account. Without the domain name it adds a user, but that user seems to be local user, not web server's NETWORK SERVICE account. What am I doing wrong?
By the way, the above syntax worked when I created login for the sql server which is different computer from the web server.
I am trying to write a file to a network drive from my asp.Net application and i get this error - Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. I am able to write to a local drive line C:/temp But when I try to save the file to a network drive such as ServerFolder, I get the error mentioned above.
I'm not able to open the file when I click on the link on page in MVC. I get the following message. I've added the impersonation in the code. I'm able to delete and save the file.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

I created an AutocompleteExtender web service. I am getting a Object reference not set error in the peice of the code where I am referring to System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session. Does anyone know why this is. And I am checking to see if it is != null before I reference it. But it crashes. Is there another way to pass another parameter to the web service?
I have built a webform as part of my project that grabs all the data out of a particular table in an Access database on the server. I have allowed the ability to update said table via the DetailsView form however when you change the details and then click on "update" it throws back an error.

The SelectParameter is used because this page is a details page that is selected from a list. I would appreciate any help that you can offer. Unfortunately Access errors are not forth coming with information.
The site is running on my local IIS 6.1. I Would like to add some features to pull information from our AD. My AD code works on many other projects and on my dev server. Here are my attempts at writing out the username:
am writing a web service in vb.net/asp.net 2, that needs user's name. It works fine when the url request is "www.mysite.com" but if any one has logged-in using "mysite.com" without a "www" and goes to the page that calls my web service, The HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name gives null. How can I resolve this problem?
I have a web application using Forms authentication provided by AD. I would like to know if it's possible to use EWS to send mail as the currently logged in user without having to supply credentials, or; would I be required to set up an account with impersonating access which will send mail on behalf of the currently logged in user?
So I'm making a asp.net login. I want the login name that people use to match an id in my SQL database. So that I can retrieve their information. But currently when I use the code below, from which I get the name of the computer I am currently on. However I would like the user Identity to be what they write in the username textbox at the login screen.
If HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated Then Dim userName As String = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name Response.Write(userName) End If
So I looked for it on net and I think it might have something to do with my web.config file. As I'm totally new to asp.net I wouldn't know. However here's a part of my Web.config file.
I'm in the middle of moving a web application from IIS6 to IIS7. I've enabled "Windows Authentication" and added <deny users="?" /> to the authorization section of my web.config file. When the app was running on IIS6 my users where able to access the web app without logging in because their windows login was automatically recognized. This does not seem to be the case in II7. I can not get a value for "Current.User.Identity.Name" in my ASP.Net code.
The scenario is that I wanna insert a record to the database via INSERT query and I need to user the identity number of this record in the INSERT query.
But I don't know how to achieve this.
Here is my table structure and code for your better understanding.
There are three columns in the Table: categoryID, categoryName, categoryPath. I need the path based on the categoryID which is an identity int column.
We have created a new cname for our subdomain website. The new website is working properly with cname. We do have .net application inside the webiste which is not working with cname. For eg,1. http://servername/_folder1/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website without cname)2. http://NewDomian.xxxx/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website with cname)The first case is working perfectly, but when I access the second url, I got the following error.Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request.
