Installation :: Error - Current Identity Doesn't Have Write Access

Jun 28, 2010

I have installed and repaired .NET 4.0 already, and I can not figure out why IIS will not run 4.0 applications. I am running Windows 2003 R2, Sp2. IIS 6.0 I created a new ASP.NET Application in Visual Studio 2010, and published it to a site on my IIS. In IIS, I have selected it to run with 4.0, and my web.config also says to compile in 4.0 My First error was : Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. (C:Inetpub...web.config line 22)

After some research, I found that my IIS had no v4.0 Web Service Extension setup. I thought this was odd, but I manually added it. New error was : The current identity (NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE) does not have write access to

C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319Temporary ASP.NET Files'.

After some research, I found I needed to add this folder, and give all rights to it. I know something is wrong, I shouldn't have to do this. My application is still erroring.. failing to load my ReportViewer :

Exception message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

My research and I think my aspnet_regiis did not run properly.. so I trieto run this myself: but I get this error!!

-aspnet_regiis.exe - Application Error

-The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Error - The Current Identity (NT Authority/Network Service) Does Not Have Write Access...

Jan 17, 2011

i developed a simple web application. A label and a button. On click of Button, the label will display Hello World.

When I deploy this web application on my web server and access the URL, I get this error message.

The current identity (NT Authority/Network Service) does not have write access to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files

I have tried the following -

Navigate to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 and typed the following command -

aspnet_regiis -ga "NT AuthorityNetwork Service"

After that also, it did not work.

We checked the permissions of the folder Temporary ASP.NET Files and for the Network Service user, we checked the Security Permissions and it has all the permissions as required.

Database - Login Failed For User "not Authoritynetwork Service"

Mar 11, 2010

'm trying to publish an asp.net website on a remote server. When my code tries to connect to the database, I get the error message described in the question title. Now, I've gone into the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio for SSE 2008 and can see the list of logins. NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE is there, but I'm not sure what settings I need to change to allow this user to access the database. I've tried using impersonation in my web.config file using the windows login credentials for the server, but that just brings up the same error message, with my windows username instead of NETWORK SERVICE.

connectionString="Data Source=MECHTRONICRNDSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog='C:InetpubaspnettestApp_DataFLEETMANAGERDB.MDF';Integrated Security=True"

Security :: Access Denied Error When Trying To Write To A File From Web Service?

Mar 12, 2010

I am getting "Access Denied" error when I am trying to write a file on my hard drive (C:/.... xmls/test.xml) from a webservice which is also on my local machine.

The folder structure is like this

AdminApp (Web Folder on C drive)
- WebServices Folder
- TestService.asmx
-Xmls Folder
- Test.xml

I tried following settings in IIS in my efforts to resolve the issue:

- Set anonynmous access checked with my account name and password under "Account Used for anonymous access" alongwith integrated windows authentication checked. I am a admin on my machine.

- Disabled anonymous access with only integrated windows authentication checked. I have identity impersonate = true set in my web.config.

Write A Page Where User's Can Write A Blog Post And Publish It To The Blog?

Apr 2, 2010

I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post.

C# - Web.config Transforms Not Being Applied On Either Publish Or Build Installation Package?

Jun 16, 2010

Today I started playing with the web.config transforms in VS 2010. To begin with, I attempted the same hello world example that features in a lot of the blog posts on this topic - updating a connection string.

I created the minimal example shown below (and similar to the one found in this blog). The problem is that whenever I do a right-click -> "Publish", or a right-click -> "Build Deployment Package" on the .csproj file, I'm not getting the correct output. Rather than a transformed web.config, I'm getting no web.config, and instead the two transform files are included.

What am I doing wrong?

Response.Write("1. " + this.Request.LogonUserIdentity.Name);
Response.Write("2. " + Request.ServerVariables["Auth_User"]);
Response.Write("3. " + WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name.ToString());

The results I get are:

NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE

How can I get at the actual windows username like ourdomain/username

Saving The Login Name As Current User Identity?

Mar 1, 2011

So I'm making a asp.net login. I want the login name that people use to match an id in my SQL database. So that I can retrieve their information. But currently when I use the code below, from which I get the name of the computer I am currently on. However I would like the user Identity to be what they write in the username textbox at the login screen.

If HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated Then
Dim userName As String = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name
Response.Write(userName)
End If

So I looked for it on net and I think it might have something to do with my web.config file. As I'm totally new to asp.net I wouldn't know. However here's a part of my Web.config file.

I'm in the middle of moving a web application from IIS6 to IIS7. I've enabled "Windows Authentication" and added <deny users="?" /> to the authorization section of my web.config file. When the app was running on IIS6 my users where able to access the web app without logging in because their windows login was automatically recognized. This does not seem to be the case in II7. I can not get a value for "Current.User.Identity.Name" in my ASP.Net code.

Access :: IIS_WPG Write/modify Access To The Folder Where MS-Access Database Is Located - Insert An Error Pop-up?

Feb 17, 2010

Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?

Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )

Using System.Data.OleDb;

I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

Security :: Forms Authentication Cookie Not Changing Current User Identity

Jan 21, 2010

I am having a problem with security in a web application I am building using Visual Web Developer 2008. I am using Forms Authentication:

<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms name=".MYAUTH" timeout="20" enableCrossAppRedirects="true" />
</authentication>

And a SQL Server database with ASP.NET Membership and Roles. I am using the LoginView control with the AnonymousTemplate and LoggedInTemplate to manage the user's interaction with logging in and out. The problem I am having is that I am authenticating the user against the database:

If Membership.ValidateUser(_userName, _txtLoginPass.Text)
Then returns True and:
FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(_userName, False)
sets the cookie correctly:
FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie(_userName, False).Values(0))
{System.Web.Security.FormsAuthenticationTicket} CookiePath: "/"
Expiration: #1/21/2010 1:42:27 PM#
Expired: False
IsPersistent: False
IssueDate: #1/21/2010 1:22:27 PM#
Name: "jaymo "
UserData: ""
Version: 2
but when I check
HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated it always returns False.
If done this before and it worked fine. I cannot find any mistake I might have made or where something might have changed between ASP.NET 2.0 and 3.5.

.net - Get IP Permission In Web Service Publish?

Dec 27, 2010

The customer(telecommunication firm) has a server which we publish asp.net web service codes which we designed for them. We use that server and web service to get data from the customers own web service and give out for client(telephone) to use it.The customer does not allow us to code on the remote server, so we have to work on local computer.The customer has 2 IPs for its own web services. One of them can be reached only from the remote server, this is an internal IP. Second IP is public which I can reach from my local computer. They address the same methods. For security reasons, they divided IPs. Everything is fine while developing on local. But when I need to publish web service to the server, I need to change web service URLs to remote servers internal IP. But the local Visual Studio web reference doesn't change web service URLs because it can't reach to service as it is only permitted to reach from the server. So I cannot get a build and publish my code.
