Finding Best Treeview Control That Renders Valid Xhtml And Works Without JavaScript

Oct 29, 2010

I'm looking for an ASP.NET control that renders a tree structure, very much like the ASP.NET TreeView control, but filling the following requirements:

Dont uses tables for rendering tree structure.
Markup Adhering to valid XHTML 1.0 Strict.
Works with AND without javascript.

Also, if the control is licensed under a MIT och GPL licens that would be great, but commercial controls is also of interest.

Do anyone know of any such control? If not, well, then I'll simply have to write the control myself. More fun in my own opinion, but likely more time consuming.

How To Make A Website In XHTML And CSS / Finding Step By Step Tutorials

Jan 22, 2010

Well as the title says I am a total noob to web programming. I have experience in XHTML and CSS and that is it, and it is time to expand my knowledge and start making much better websites

I have a project to completely rewrite the site [URL] and want to do it in ASP.NET rather then PHP, and since I do not know either language I would rather learn this one instead.

My question is simple, where do I start? I learn well by reading books and doing examples and building example websites, that sort of stuff. Can anyone suggest any good book titles that will get me started in the right direction? A friend sent me the PDF version of the book: "Learning ASP.NET 3.5, 2nd Edition (Build web applications with ASP.NET 3.5, AJAX, Linq and MORE)." This is so far the only resource I have. The only thing about that book is that it promotes using the WYSIWYG style of web design and I
have always been tought to stay away from that.

Clearing The Value Of File Upload Control Using Javascript That Works On All Browser?

Sep 24, 2010

We are running following javascript function:

function btn_AddToList_Click() {
var filePath = document.getElementById("FileUpload").value;
if(filePath.length > 0)
{
var opt = new Option(filePath,filePath);
var listBox = document.getElementById("ListBox");
listBox.options[listBox.options.length] = opt;
}
}

Function binding:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
btn_AddToList.Attributes.Add("onclick", "btn_AddToList_Click(); return false;");
}
}

HTML:

asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:ListBox ID="ListBox" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:Button ID="btn_AddToList" runat="server" Enabled="true" Text="Add"

Add A Custom / Namespaced XHTML Attribute To A Web Control Declaratively?

Aug 24, 2010

Normally, unknown attributes of a webcontrol are passed through to to the rendered element in the browser. So the following works.

<asp:label runat="server" Text="Label Text" helpId="101" />

However, if you use a namespaced attribute like the following

<asp:label runat="server" Text="Label Text" myNs:helpId="101" /></div>

The attribute is not rendered to the client, even when the custom namespace is declared in the html element like: <html xmlns= [URL] Does anyone know of a way to get this to render to the client, without having to use a custom control. A module or other globally "pluggable" solution would be acceptable.

Javascript - Defer Loading UpdatePanel Content Until After The Page Renders?

Oct 7, 2010

Old hand at ASP.NET, new to the UpdatePanel. I have a reporting page which executes a fairly length SQL query... takes about 10 seconds right now. What I would like to do is have my page fully render, with some placeholder text (Loading...) and then have the UpdatePanel kick off the actual time-consuming reporting process and render the report when it's done.

So... my theory is to use RegisterStartupScript() to kick this off and drop the string from GetPostBackEventReference() to trigger the UpdatePanel update. Some problems crop up:

1) Can I actually use GetPostBackEventReference w/ the UpdatePanel or do I need to trigger it some other way? Use this method on a button inside the Update Panel?

2) What event gets triggered when the postback reference is the UpdatePanel? It's not clear to me. I've got to call my databinding code somewhere! Again, maybe I need to use a button inside?

C# - How To Make XHTML Validation Happy When Using Custom System.Web.UI.Control

Aug 28, 2010

I am sure this question has been asked and answered; but I haven't managed to find it...

I am creating a very simple custom System.Web.UI.Control that has a few properties. I can define in my ASPX page the following tag and everything is happy:

<ns:MyControl runat="server" MyProperty="Value" />

However, if I want to have one or more "child" properties, like so:

<ns:MyControl runat="server" MyProperty="Value">
<Element AnotherProperty="AnotherValue1" />
<Element AnotherProperty="AnotherValue2" />
</ns:MyControl>

what I need to do to make the XHTML validate. I always have

Content is not allowed between the opening and closing tag of element 'XXX'

Element 'XXX' is not supported

The name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed

The code actually runs as expected, but I haven't manged to find a good example on how to do this correctly so that everything validates. In terms of implementation of the Custom Control, I just have all properties stubbed out at the moment, and looks something like:

[ParseChildren(true)]
[PersistChildren(false)]
public class MyControl : Control[code]....

Ultimately, Element is intended to build up a collection of Elements. Any insight on how to do this properly and have the XHTML validate

C# - Can Control The Order In Which The TagBuilder Class Renders Attributes?

Aug 12, 2010

I know this is kind of obsessive, but is there a way to control the order that the TagBuilder class renders the attributes of an HTML tag when you call ToString()?

i.e. so that

var tb = new TagBuilder("meta");
tb.Attributes.Add("http-equiv", "Content-Type");
tb.Attributes.Add("content", "text/html; charset=utf-8");
tb.ToString(TagRenderMode.SelfClosing)

will return

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

not

<meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" />

Changing the order that you add the attributes doesn't change it, it seems to be rendering in alphabetical order

Forms Data Controls :: FormView Control Only Renders Server-side Objects?

Mar 25, 2010

I have just run into a situation with a FormView control where any markup that is not given an ID and runat=server attribute is NOT rendered to the browser.

In other words, all of the extranneous markup (h#, fieldsets, legends, divs, labels, etc.) that are in my Edit Template DO NOT render to the browser at run-time. However, if I add an ID to any of those items and add runat="server" then they are rendered.

Has anybody every seen anything like this? Does anybody know what could possibly cause this?

What CSS Rules Do The Menu Server Control Implement To Renders As A Horizontal Menu?

For the ASP.NET Menu Server Control whose RenderMode is set to "List", there is an "Orientation" property which decides whether the menu would render as a horizontal or a vertical menu. C# - Using Bind In TextBox Renders Bound Data Outside The TextBox Control?

Jul 30, 2010

I have a ListView (in an update panel) bound to an ObjectDataSource (connected to an NHibernate object) and in the EditItemTemplate I use Text='<%# Bind("HideLocation")%>' to bind to a string property of the object.

When I click edit (twice, another issue I'm having) and view the code in Chrome, the output looks like this:

[code]....

why the value of the bound data (in this case: In locker 2317) is showing up outside of the text box instead of as the contents of the data?

Can Treeview Nodes Work Without Javascript

Jan 22, 2011

I understand that a treeview cannot expand/collapse without javascript. But is it possible to open the treeview in expanded form when javascript is disabled? Even if I cannot expand/collapse the nodes, at least I can click on the nodes that will display the data related to that node.

Similar to the treeview used in online auction sites, our treeview looks something like this: [URL], where clicking on a link will redirect me, and clicking on the "+" will expand or collapse the node. The only difference would be that ours is databound.

Another developer is working on this and he tells me that this is not possible without javascript. This webform in particular works almost entirely without javascript, and I'd like the treeview to also work partially.

Finding Guidance For Javascript Data Binding And SEO

Feb 18, 2010

I have an application that makes a series of WCF calls that return JSON via JSONP. In turn javascript code will then bind that returned data to HTML controls.

When a bot / spider hits my application, no data would be indexed because javascript would not execute in the bot.

Ideally I'd like to not have to maintain two sets of data-binding code (one on the server side and one on the client side).

Essentially I need the resulting data to come downstream. I had were to.

1) link RSS/ATOM equivalent data
2) a backdoor HTML page
3) an HTML renderer that can execute an ASPX page server side ahead of time and then pass that off to the client
