ADO.NET :: Create A Query To Gather Information From Multiple Tables?

Apr 1, 2011

I have a view that has to render information from 3-4 tables. I therefore chose to create a viewModel for this. I am using EF as DAL.The information to be displayed is SiteId, SiteName, SiteDetails from one table.Associated to Site, other table Event_type has information about Events in the system with fileds like EventId, EventName, Event ScopeId.EventScope is another table with ScopeID and ScopeDesc Also, there is Site_Event_Implemnetation table that stores all the events associated to a site. It has SiteId, EventId, EventUnitIdEventUnit is another table that stores all the unit types.Now my Details ViewModel has to display the info SiteName, SiteDetails. And associated to that a grid of events with info on EventName, Scope Desc, Unit Desc1. How do I formulate my query to retrieve this info in my repository layer using Linq to EF?

Security ::User Authorisation / Access - Perform Function Via Button In Repeater?

Apr 28, 2010

I'm looking to write some script that checks that: The current user of whom is logged in has the correct authority credentials. NB: Script in C# before I continue. To give a bit more background. The SQL DB Table for AdminUsers has a field 'Authority' this is linked to another table (Authority) which has the values/different levels of authority in them. Thus, if aN admin user whose Authority level is just listed as 'user', for example, in the database and wants to edit information that requires 'Supeuser' authority level - it cannot be performed and is redirected to another page. In detail, my particular page, the operation is being done via a ASP Button within a ASP Repeater. Of each record that occurs there is the button that, once pressed, updates the field in the database (in this case for a Guestbook table which has a 'Moderated' field of 'bit/bool' data type, changing it from false to true (or 0/1)). To allow that entry to be displayed on the front-end for public viewing. All this can onyl happen on the basis of, as previously stated, their authority is of the appropriate level. Here is what my attempt was. The outcome of which simply redirects to the 'Unauthorised' page, despite the user logged in having the correct authority credentials.

ASP - GuestbookMod.aspx:

[Code]....

C# - GuestbookMod.aspx:

LINQ to SQL - Guestbook.cs 'Mod' Method:

C# - Linq2sql Count Grouping Vote Entity Query - Can't Get Properties Once Grouped?

Oct 11, 2010

I'm building a music voting application, similar to stack overflow almost.I have 3 tables, Charts, ChartItems, Votes.I'm trying to bring back a list of chartitems, which link to a single chart, with the number of votes for each chart item counted.This is what I am trying currently

var firstList = from chartItem in db.ChartItems
join vote in db.Votes on chartItem.ixChartId equals vote.ixChartId into j1
where chartItem.ixChartId == id[code]...

The problem is once I have performed the grouping, I can't get any of the other properties I need from the join to populate the model. For example each ChartItem should have a title, id etc...I have created a ViewModel to hold all the properties that I need, called ChartItemWithVotes(includes all entity values + int totalVotes)In the end I am looking for this

Chart Name

Votes Name

20 - ChartItemname

15 - ChartItemname

12 - ChartITemName

AJAX :: Replacing The Submit Button Of A Rating Control Inside A Listview After A Vote

Nov 29, 2010

I have this working except for one thing. After the user has voted I want to replace the submit with "Thank you" text.

In the aspx page I have a label that is not visible, with the text = "NotVoted". This label is not in the listview. In the listview I have a label that is not visible and a button that is. The rating control is called vidRating. In the vidRating_Changed event I have

lblVoteStatus.Text = "Voted"
ListView1.DataBind()
In the ListView1_ItemDataBound event I have
Dim lblVoted As Label = CType(e.Item.FindControl("lblVoted"), Label)
Dim btnSubmit As Button = CType(e.Item.FindControl("btnSubmit"), Button)
If lblVoteStatus.Text = "Voted" Then
btnSubmit.Text = "Thank you"
btnSubmit.Visible = False
lblVoted.Visible = True
End If

When I run this in debug mode, if the user has voted, ListView1.DataBind() is run, lblVoteStatus.text = "Voted", and the code in the IF statement is run. I get no errors, but the page doesn't change. I still see the button and I don't see the label text. If I comment out the if /end if statements, the page opens displaying the label text, not the submit button. So the controls are being found ok. What am I doing wrong? How can I disable or remove the submit button after the user votes?

How To Store User ID In Session

Feb 15, 2011

When the user logs in, I want to store his userID in the session with

HttpContext.Current.Session["UserID"] = 2354; (this is just a hard-coded example)

Then, when I run a page method, if I do

var test = HttpContext.Current.Session["UserID"];

will the variable test hold the value I stored when he logged in?

If this is a correct way of doing it, how do I access the session when I receive a call from a page method? I want to put the test =... line in a page method to identify which user the request is coming from.

MVC :: How To Store Active User Object

I'm not using the microsoft MembershipProvider system. I'm open to using bits and pieces of it.

In Web Forms I stored a lightweight User object in the Session Variable.

Then whenever I needed the full force of a user object I would ask my repository to return me the User object that matched (be it from the database or cache).

Where do I store my LightWeightUser object for the session's user in MVC, I see I still have access to Session, but is there a better place?

I just want to use the web.config since it's just a single user and a simple site. I thought I could just drag and drop the login control to a page and that would be the end of it (besides setting up the web.config).

Here's what i have in the config file

Authentication - Where To Store The Username Of Logged In User

Sep 29, 2010

When a user log into my asp.net site I use the following code:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(userid, false);

As I often need to use the userid I can then later get the userid by:

string userid = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name;

Now I also want to show the logged in username on each page and my questions is therefore where do I place the username best if I need to use it on every page. User.Identity.Name is already taken by the userid so I can't use that one. Another solution would be to get the username from the database on each page, but that seems like a bad solution.

Session, FormsAuthenticationTicket, Store Data About The User?

Feb 1, 2011

I'm am building an web application that needs to be able to scale.We want to store, an connection string, an object that says what organization the user is working on right now and the identity of the user.

We could serialize down this and send through the userdata property in the FormsAuthenticationTicket, but that feels to not be the optimal solution, cause its is 4-5 strings of data that is unncessesary, but the main issue is that we are sending an encrypted connectionstring to the user which we dosent want to.

So what are our options?Can ASP.NET Cache be our solution?, can we couple the expiration of the asp.net cache and the formsauthenticationcookie?
