Get A 401 Error When Accessing An MVC 2 App From The Outside?
Jan 17, 2011
I have written an ASP.NET MVC 2 app that uses forms based authentication. It is running on IIS 7.5. When I access the site from the local box, I can see it. When I access it from the outside, I get a generic 401 error. It's odd. Two other MVC2 sites that sit in the same virtual directory work fine no matter where you access it from. I thought it might have been something to do with authorization, but the authorization tag between the three sites are near identical (except for the 'name' attribute). Regardless, I commented out the authorization tag and got the same error (except now, it doesn't try to redirect me to the login page before getting the error).
I'm a bit lost as to what could be going on.

I have a web app that is trying to open a SQL Server Database and it's not working. The error that I am receiving is below:
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections."
What needs to be done regarding the highlighted line in the error message?

When I'm accessing web service from jquery, I'm getting the 403 forbidden error.. I published and created in the virtual directory too. Wat's the cause of this error and how to rectify it? I've added the webservice in the same solution.. This is my following code..
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#sayHelloButton").click(function(event){
$.ajax({ [code]....
I suppose using that url path for webservice is wrong.. I used the path 'DummyWebservice.asmx'. There I'm getting the 500 internal server error.

I have a website where I am using the JSON webservice. I have uploaded my website on the server.
Problem:
When I try to access the webservice it gives me the error as shown in below screenshot. In the below screenshot MyServices is my webservice. MyServices.asmx is the name of the file that I am trying to access.
Troubleshooting that already has been done:
I tried cleaning the bin folder and rebuilding again. But it didnt work.

I have been trying to fix this issue for several hours now, and I was hoping to find out if someone can shed some more light on it. I get the above error on ONLY ONE virtual root in my IIS 5.1 installation. I have other web sites I am developing in .NET 2.0 and 3.5 and they seem to work fine. This is a development workstation with only 1 user, and I get this error continuallyevery time I access only 1 of my web sites - even after rebooting the machine. It makes no difference what order I access the web sites in - this one always fails and the other ones always succeed.
Note that the web site does not use frames and the changes I made to it yesterday (just adding some javascript and a few span elements to support BuySafe's new 3-in-1 guarantee program) were very minor.OS: Windows XP/IIS 5.1Dev Environment: Visual Studio 2005/.NET 2.0Browser IIS 7.0Every page on the internet I have read about this seems to indicate it must be something with the "HTTP Keep Alive" setting. I disabled this setting but it made no difference at all.I keep full backups of my machine and I restored my OS/IIS partition from a few days ago (including the full IIS metabase), but I still continue to get the same error.The error suddenly started occuring today - I just made some updates on the web site and deployed them to production yesterday (and neither my test or production servers are exhibiting this behavior). It happened after a power failure and my UPS software forced my Lenovo T500 laptop to sleep. When the power failure occurred, both VS 2005 and a browser with this web site were open on the machine. The machine woke up and the programs were all still running, but I was no longer to access this web site.I had a problem like this years ago and I ended up rebuilding the machine from scratch. Please give me an alternate solution.Full Error Message:The page cannot be displayedThere are too many people accessing the Web site at this time.Please try the following:Click the Refresh button, or try again later. I'm programming a webpage in ASP.NET which displays a list of students not listed as participants in something, and upon clicking a student name shows you a brief summary of their details, so the user can ensure they're selecting the right person. Each student is identified by a unique ID.
My code currently correctly obtains their ID, adds it as a parameter to my stored procedure and executes the procedure;
[Code]....
However, when I try to access the results, with say dv.Table.Rows[0], I get the following error:
[Code]....
Upon debugging, there don't seem to be any results returned... when running just the stored procedure in SQL Server with the same data, it does return a single row, as expected.

In my global.asax I have url routing setup like below:
routes.MapPageRoute("User Logon", "{Vendor}/Logon", "~/Logon.aspx");
In the logon.aspx page, I have a script that "stylizes" the logon button:
<link href="jquery/css/flick/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="images/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<script src="jquery/js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="jquery/js/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#<%= ButtonLogon.ClientID %>').button();
});
</script>
When I access the page us a url (in debug mode) http://localhost/logon.aspx?v=1 the page loads correctly and the jquery button command loads correctly. But then I access the page using the new url route, I get this error.

I'm still trying to deploy this site, but with every problem I solve, another arises. Anyways - I've set up the database at my hosting to allow remote connections, and it is running Sql Server 2005. On my development machine, I am working with Sql Server 2008.
I've installed the asp.net schema on my hosted database, and have created several users from the ASP.NET web administration interface, as well as tested that the login works. Running the application locally with the remote connection string nets the same results. However - I'm able to run my scripts and generate my tables and stored procedures without errors - but when the site is run I get the following error on all of my .aspx pages that try to access a stored procedure:
Server Error in '/' Application. Incorrect syntax near 'LoadProfileData'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Is this a possible Sql 2005 vs 2008 issue? I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue in a similar scenario and can point me in the right direction. The server is running asp.net 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 and IIS 7.0.

I'm developing an ASP.NET user control in VS2008 that writes to a SQL Server 2005 database. I've published the control to a SharePoint 2007 MOSS page using the SmartPart addon. The control consists of a few text fields and a submit button that writes the contents of the text fields to the database. When I test the control in the Visual Studio debugger, it works fine. When I try to submit data from the SharePoint page, I get the error shown at the end of this post. Last time I saw this, it was a database permissions error, but I've granted my site's default application pool read/write access to my database. Does anyone have any idea what else the problem might be? Also, how can I double-check the credentials that the SharePoint page is using to access the database, since I still suspect that this is a permissions issue?

Hoping someone can point me to a solution, haven't been able to find one yet.
I'm using the standard way for send HttpWebRequest
[Code]....
As you can see from Fiddler/SOAPUI it does return the SOAP fault, however using HttpWebRequest i can't capture the response.
Returning 500 triggers my exception handling and Capturing the WebException doesn't expose the response.
Does anyone know how to capture this response xml in the case of 500 Internal Server Errors.

I have a simple WCF service that retrieves some data from the DB. When I host the service on local serviceHost everything works fine, but when I host the same service on local IIS (7.5 - windows 7) I get this exception: The Undelying provider failed on open.
I have some logging services inside the service and I found out that this exception occures only when the service calls some DB service (not one particular, any DB service). The strange thing is that when the service is not hosted on IIS this same DB call works fine.
Things I've done: enabled ASP.NET impersonation on the IIS server -> didn't help.
Another thing : I'm using sql server 2008 express.

I have a serious problem with "Error on Page". The error message points to line number 939, char 13. In my code behind (C#) in line number 939 is only an obsolete method found which is no longer called. The aspx file has only 339 lines. What the heck is line number 939?The Webapplication allows a special user group to change some group memberships for members of another user group in Active Directory. The App handles 3internal DataViews derived from corresponding DataTables as DataSource for 3 GridViews and some other internal lists with objects (List<obj>).
It uses windows authentication to get current users credentials and his membership in the "Operators" group. This credentials will be passed-through to allow the process managing group memberships in active directory.After starting the App in browser it seems to work fine. But after an indeterminated time it doesn't longer respond. After each click on buttons (or link buttons) you only can see the message "Error on Page" in the browsers status bar below.I played with session timeout, storing the DataTables in session variables, without success.
Last week I found this article here: [URL]" and I addedEnableEventValidation="false" ViewStateEncryptionMode="Never"
to Page declaration. However, at some point the the server does not respond. Each time the worker process on webserver recycles it seems the application turn to wrong state. Might be important: All controls including GridViews are embedded in an AJAX UpdatePanel. How to get a better error message? Debugging is enabled and Custom Error handling On, Off or Remote Only brings the same result as described.
