Getting Error Accessing / Opening Database?

Jun 27, 2012

I have a web app that is trying to open a SQL Server Database and it's not working. The error that I am receiving is below:

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections."

What needs to be done regarding the highlighted line in the error message?

Visual Studio :: Solution Not Opening - Getting Error?

Mar 23, 2011

I have first installed VS2005 and then installed VS2008. After installing, whenever i create a solution in VS2008, i am able to create it properly. if i double-click the solution file, i am able to open the project. Recently i had a problem in my IIS 5.1 and i uninstalled it and the installed it again. After doing that whenever i try to open a VS2008 solution file, i am getting the following error The selected file is a solution file, but was created by a newer version of this application and cannot be opened.". I even tried creating a blank solution using

File->New->Project->Other Project Types-> Visual Studio Solutions-> Blank Solution.

I then added a new project to this solution. I closed the solution and again when i double-click on the newly created solution file i am getting the same error as previous one. I found some solution in the net, tried that and didn't work at all.

Application Opening Too Many Oracle Database Connections?

Feb 17, 2010

I have an application, which connects to a Oracle 10g R2 database, but what it is doing is opening lots and lots of connections and is not disposing them.

My application is using the MVC model, and I have Database Connection Class, which on unload of the page calls my dispose method, which consists the dispose and close commands. Further, on model control, on each of methods requesting data from the database, I am calling the close method on Oracle Data Reader.

Create Methods To Do Stuff Like Opening The Connection To The Database?

Jun 22, 2010

I want to be able to create methods to do stuff like opening the connection to the database.Right now if I want to do that I have to put all the code to open the connection with the database in every class.What I did is create a new class called methods, this class is in the App_code folder.I have researched but don't understand how methods are created and how to call them. If someone can give me an example regarding a database connection method, I might be able to really understand how a method works. Basically, this is the code I have to use everytime I want to open a connection to the database:

string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["dbConn"].ConnectionString;

MVC :: Error In Opening A Pdf File On Network Share / Access To The Path Is Denied

Nov 23, 2010

I'm not able to open the file when I click on the link on page in MVC. I get the following message. I've added the impersonation in the code. I'm able to delete and save the file.

Access to the path '\servernamefolder1folder2folder3foder4filename.pdf' is denied. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '......same as above....' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

Error While Opening A Document In Custom Grid / The Message Received From The Server Could Not Be Parsed

Apr 1, 2010

I have a grid within another grid. In the detail grid I have image button for which I am giving the URL of documents in the source itself. On clicking on Image button, document can be opened for which I am using a Handler. The code for opening the document is written in the handler.This code is as below:

[code]....

The document can be opened when clicked on Image Button. but, the problem is taht after opening the document, I am unable to perform any other action in the grids.... Other actions like...selection in checkboxes(master grid contains few check boxes),other link buttons in detail grid....etc etc...I am getting the following errr:

PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled

This is because after opening any document,for any action again Handler is being called.

DataSource Controls :: Generates Unspecified Error On Opening File On Production Server

Jan 5, 2010

I have an application that uploads an Excel .xls file to the file system, opens the file with an oledbconnection object using the .open() method on the object instance. The upload and writing of the file to the file system works fine but I get an error when trying to open the file on our production server only. The application works fine on two other servers (development and testing servers).

string connectionString = ("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fileName + ";") + "Extended Properties="Excel 8.0""
OleDbConnection connection = null;
connection = new OleDbConnection(connectionString);
connection.Open();

The exception comes on production server at connection.Open() some times, when I reset the asp.net worker process it started to work but after some hours/days It occurs again. how can I fix this issue which comes in production some times but very irritating, or there is some other work around.

Get A 401 Error When Accessing An MVC 2 App From The Outside?

Jan 17, 2011

I have written an ASP.NET MVC 2 app that uses forms based authentication. It is running on IIS 7.5. When I access the site from the local box, I can see it. When I access it from the outside, I get a generic 401 error. It's odd. Two other MVC2 sites that sit in the same virtual directory work fine no matter where you access it from. I thought it might have been something to do with authorization, but the authorization tag between the three sites are near identical (except for the 'name' attribute). Regardless, I commented out the authorization tag and got the same error (except now, it doesn't try to redirect me to the login page before getting the error).

I'm a bit lost as to what could be going on.

Way Of Accessing A Database Through An Assembly?

Apr 6, 2010

I have a ASP.NET MVC application which is build up as an assembly that queries the database and a asp.net frontend that references this assembly and this assembly abstracts the underlying database. This means that my Assembly contains a app.config file that contains the connectionstring to the database (Linq to Sql data model). How do I go about making this more flexible? Should i make a "initialize()" method somewhere in my assembly which takes the connection string from the asp.net mvc application and then that controls which database to use? or how is this done?
