now our company creates a new application under ASP.NET + SQL Server cluster platform.
So I know the best and most efficient principles and ways to scale the load, but I wanna know the MS background of horizontal scaling.
The question is pretty simple - are there any built-in abilities in ASP.Net to access the least loaded SQL server from SQL Server cluster?

Is there any solutions that "increases power of a single machine" instead of traffic distribution between different hosts. I mean the following schema: "Central server" receives all requests and for its execution it provide "a copy of shared memory" to different hosts.

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
Time to tiime a get that kind of error and i dont really have clue.

Is there a 'correct' way to get the proper web address for a file under an ASP.Net application? For example, I have content in '/Content/Images/Gallery/2010-01-17/small/', and I would like to iterate through all of those files, and output to the browser a link.
Now, I can do it manually by working out the path from the files FullName or I can do it from knowing the current directory, but is there a proper ASP.Net way to do it?
As you can probably tell, I'd rather use the provided method if it exists :)

This is the current architechture and this is the question I have: Current architechture: We have an intranet application. No one accesses from outside the firewall. It's pretty simple architechture. We have a webservice and WebUI. The Web UI calls the webmethods of the webservice. So far so good. It works fine. Both webservice and WebUI runs under the context of the same service account (non human user account) that we created. The security is a role based security. If a user is a specific AD group, he can access with web UI. On the webui and webservice we have "Integrated windows authentication".
Code:
<authorization>
<allow roles="MycompanyApr-DataWriters"/>
</authorization>
So all the users and the service account that runs this webservice are in this AD group Apr-DataWriters. When a user launches this webUI, I want to find out either his box number of IP address of this box and datetime stamp. How can i get that information.

i currently working on a webform. My current codes are below:
[Code]....
1. first of all i would just like to have 1 XML file that will contain both the builder and manager email address. I tried the following code but it does not work. Basically i set the databinding source for both the dropdownlist to the same source with different datafield value(for builder) and name(for manager).
[Code]....
2. So i want it to set so that when users select "Others" as an option, they are allowed to enter new email address manually. And i want them to update this XML file so that the next time they access this form they would be able to see the previous email entry that they provided.3. How do i get the 2 panels side by side at the bottom? For example i would like them to see the Label next to the Textbox.4. Last question, how do i create a text in the label so that i can see the Version when they press update in the form. For example if the major version is 6, user enters 6 and press the update button and the "Major Version" would display something like "Major Version = 6"?

I have managed to expose the MEX endpoint of my WCF service and I can access it with the address like [URL] (example) and get the WDSL. So no problem there.
However, my WCF test page shows the address wrongly by using the server's name instead of the DNS name. And if I click on the link on the test page it won't work (can't get WSDL).
The WCF test page looks like this:
MyService Service
You have created a service.
To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service.
[URL]
The WCF service is hosted in IIS6. I would like to have a test page with the correct WSDL address so users can see the WSDL quickly in the browser just by clicking on the WSDL address.
In short: How can I change the MyServerName to inter.mycompany.com on the WCF test page? Can this be specified somewhere in the Web.config?

I am trying to pull entries from a database based on the current users IP Address. Here is what I have so far:
[Code]....
I am receiving the following error: Cannot find either column "Request" or the user-defined function or aggregate "Request.UserHostAddress.ToString", or the name is ambiguous.
Is it possible to do this? Should I try to access this information another way?

How do I obtain the IP address or MAC address or some Unique ID of a device within a mobile app, either client or server side?
We are developing a web application targeting iPhone, BlackBerry and Android, generally device independent, and we are looking for ways to uniquely identify a device for added authentication purpose. Is there a way to uniquely identify a mobile device, regardless of the make and model?

I'm working on an EmailSender, and I'm grabbing the email address from my Web.config file. I'd like to also grab a "display name" for that email, from the same section if possible, but I'm not seeing an obvious way to do this. In my Web.config file, I have included a default "from email address", like this:
<configuration>
<[URL]>
<mailSettings>
<smtp from="[URL]><!-- no displayName attribute :( -->
<network ... />
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</[URL]>
</configuration>
In my EmailSender, I have something like this:
var smtpSection = ...;
var message = new MailMessage();
message.From = new MailAddress(_settings.From, senderDisplayName);
Is there a recommended way to store senderDisplayName in a web.config file? Is there some way to include it in the from attribute? For example:
<smtp from="Automatic Mailer [URL]">
Or does it need to be a custom element in appSettings? Or is there some other way?
