I have a page that has a bunch of user controls. I would like to be able to see which user controls are performing badly. I would like to be able to see this in the trace. any way to do this.

View 3 Repliesi create a composite control as can be seen in code below, and add this control to webform, assign FormView1 to the HeaderControlName property, Run the page, the system will generate parse error message :
Cannot create an object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormView' from its string representation 'FormView1' for the 'HeaderControlName' property. However, if i don't assign FormView1 in design screen and manually (through coding) assign FormView1 to the custom control on init, it works as expected.

I render some markup dynamically in a Web User Control, can I get that out in design mode, and not only runtime?

View 2 RepliesI am fairly new to the asp.net and experimenting with it to learn the page life cycle. Here is a problem that I have been unable to resolve for past few days.
I have a hosting page (.aspx). Then I have two user controls (.ascx). The page has a place holder control in which it loads the user controls one at a time based on the application flow. First user control is loaded on application start up. It has a "continue" button. Continue button click loads the Second user control that has two buttons - "Back" and "Submit". Obviously the "Back" button should load the first user control again and Submit button should submit the form data. Pretty simple.
The problem is that the command button event handler that I have on the second user control is not firing the first time. (I have one event handler for both buttons). The load event of the user control fires but then it ignores the button click. If I click it again, then it fires. I re-load the controls on the page in every page_load. Here is some relevent code:

The page_Load fires every time but "CommandBtn_Click" doesn't fire after the first click. I have to do it click it again. It doesn't matter which order I click the buttons.

View 3 RepliesI'm getting some wierd behaviour with my User control. I've created User control & it has BUTTON which checks the validity of the number entered in the textbox of that user control. I have written Button Clik event handler in the USer Control code behind which checks the database table and tells valid or not. So far so good. In my application i dynamically add User controls. I make sure that I add them Page_Load so that for every postback UCs are visible. I'm ussing Session to save my UserControls. The problem starts at some point when i click the Validate button in the User Control all my user controls dissappear & after some postbacks all my controls appear. I don't know why this is happening. I have included my code for reference.

I have a requirement where I want to trace what file is being processed by .net runtime. I mean if it is processing usercontrol x.ascx then it should return the whole path of that, and if it is processing usercontrol y.ascx it should return that. There are some candidates properties. equest.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePathor TemplateControl.AppRelativeVirtualPath. Can somebody help me with this, or is there any other property that can give me the path.

I am using HTTP load testing tool to stress test my asp.net 2.0 application. I faced problem that, when I have 1 user access to the system (currently only test on login.aspx), it is very fast ~ 1-2 secs. However, when I run with 10 virtual users at the same time, it takes 10-12 secs for each.

My question is, why ALL of them also takes 10-12 secs? Is it normal? I was thinking that should be some users take 2-3 secs and some 5-6 secs and etc.
Just trying to get to grips with the Razor syntax - i had noticed that by default new views will have the following code in them;

Is it just as simple as "the layout page gets fired last" or is there a firmer definition?
I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?
