How To Access Object Tags In Aspx.cs Page
Mar 2, 2011
I desingned a page with tags, Now I want to access object tags in code behind.
This is aspx page code....
<object type="label" runat="server" class="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label" id="label_priority" parent="-1" bindedfield="priority" empty="1" value="MyValue">
Here I am adding runat=server in object tags it is giving error as
"An object tag must contain a Class, ClassID or ProgID attribute."
then I added class="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label", now not giving any error but not showing anything in browser.
so My question is how do I access object tags in aspx.cs page? or I want to create a label with object tag that is accessible in code behind.

C# or VB.NET are welcome.
I have an <%#Eval("FirstName")%> in the aspx page, I want to replace "FirstName" to <%#Eval(employee.FirstName)%> but "employee" object
is instantiated in the codebehind like this:
Public employee As New Employee
How can I call this object in the aspx page? Should I can create an "employee" in the aspx? if so, how to do that.

I am trying to hide or show a certain section of my table depending on the value of a property in my binding object(s).
public class Class1
{
public bool Display { get; set; }
}
In ASP.NET MVC, I can just do the following (assuming that Class1 is the model that binds to the page.)
<table>
<tr>Row 1</tr>
<tr>Row 2</tr>
<% if(Model.Display) { %>
<tr>Row 3</tr>
<tr>Row 4</tr>
<% } %>
</table>
How can I achieve the same behavior in transitional ASP.NET? That "Model" variable is not available. How do I retrieve the data binding object?

I have a basic ASP.NET (4.0) web site (in VS2010)
I have a few aspx forms with in it..

I am new to silverlight and I am wondering if it is possible to access silverlight object data from the aspx page that host it. Or have silverlight write to a hidden field on the page on client side.
What I am trying to do is to use silverlight to upload file via WCF (client to WCF Service directly instead of posting data back to the web server then forwarded to WCF service). When uploading a large file, user can still do some data entry etc. And once the upload is done have it write some data return by the WCF service to the aspx's hidden field and postback to the server on submit.

I have a page, Default.aspx, with its own code-behind file like this:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
{
public int[] anArray;
}
What I'd like to do is access to "anArray" from a C# class (not tied to a page) declared in App_Code folder. What can I do?
Edit: As said in the first comment, I really apreciate your about refactoring my connection objects. However, what I'm really doing here is to rewrite an old PHP application in order to get comfortable with basic C# and ASP.NET, so this code will never go really live. So, I'm still intersted in a way (if any) to access an object declared in a code-behind code from a standard C# class.
Edit2: I removed the OdbcConnection object in order to focus to the real problem: how to refer to an object istantiated in a code-behind file from a C# class situated in App_Code?

So I'm writing an app that lets the user select a folder, it gets all the .aspx files in that folder, and lets the users check off which ones they want to add HTML ID's to.
Then they click start, and this runs
private void btnStart_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
for (int i = 0; i < listFiles.CheckedItems.Count; i++)
{
}
}
It loops through all the selected file names. How do I open each of these .aspx files in the background, and go through them and add the id="thisItemId"

In a project I'm working on, the master page codebehind does a load of complex checks and confirmations that decide the navigation list displayed on the TreeView of the page. Now, I need a way to access this list from another front-end page, such as "frontpage.aspx".
This serves two purposes. One, the masterpage will hide pages on the navigation list the user shouldn't have access to, but the user can still enter the page by typing the page name into the URL manually. By being able to browse through the TreeView, I can isolate the whole authorization into a single method by simply checking if the page name exists within the currently used TreeView.
Two, this will allow me to easily change the displayed content of any page without checking the database or storing sessions for whatever specific rights the current user has, as I can just look if the TreeView contains "Products Admin" for example, and then use that to hide or display the section of the page that has to do with "Product Admin" functionality.

I am on .aspx page and i want to take the width and height of a control from a static class
where i have defined them as constans.
Is there any way to access that class directly from the aspx page?
I know that i can make a method like:
width="<%= getWidthSize() %>"
and inside the aspx.cs to define this method to take the size from that static class.
But i am asking if this could be directly managed from the web aspx page...?

I'm using ASP.NET with VB, and .NET version 3.5. In the project, I've got some utility functions that I call from expressions in the aspx pages and also in code behind. This all works fine on my local machine, but when I deploy to the production server, I get this compilation error on each of those utility methods:
BC30456: 'XXX' is not a member of 'String'.
where XXX is an extension method defined on System.String. I'm baffled about this for a number of reasons:
Why is ASP.NET compiling anything at all, since I've precompiled the application and put everything in the bin directory. ASP.NET knows the functions are there because they work in code behind. It's only when used in the aspx page that I have this problem. (e.g. if I do something like this: <%= "A string to XXX-ify".XXX())%>) This method is public, which I verified with Reflector. I imported the relevant namespaces in the web.config file, and I can see that these namespaces are being imported in the call that ASP.NET makes to the compiler.

So I've got a partial in my MVC project that creates a JSON array. I want to move this chuck of code from the top of the html page body to the bottom with the rest of the JS for speed reasons. That is to say I want to store the JSON created as a string in C# and access it on the Site.Master.
