View 1 RepliesHere's an odd one.
I have a master page with links to other pages in the site. Those links use tilde paths (like "~/dir1/page2.aspx"). On most of the pages in the site that use this master page, there is no problem. The problem only seems to be on a few pages that use the master page, the links are VERY wrong, it tries to use the ~ as part of the link (so they are[URL]. It's as if it is treating the tilde as a literal under certain

this might be a little bit random but im wondering how do i give each registered user his own page that is only editable by him but at the same time viewable by other users like :
1- user registers and gets his own page and then lets say he can add some text .
2- other users can view the page but not customize or edit it.
After about 10 mins my web app will give me an error when i logout or try to save page. I have the sessions set and dont understand why I get this problem.in webconfig i have this.

<sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="60"/>
login
username 01
pswd 1 .
go to any page and sit there for 10-20mins or just leave it logged in and try to logout after 10-20mins[URL]

How do I setup caching for a Page in ASP.NET and give it a cache key dependency? I am familiar how to do this with a UserControl, I set a Partial Caching attribute and then set
this.CachePolicy = new CacheDependency(..)
How would I do this for a Page? It does not have a CachePolicy object,
I've got a HomePage.aspx page - user clicks "NEW PROJECT" and they get brought to the NewProject.aspx page.
While on this page they click CONTINUE buttons on the page that move you through 3 stages of CASE creation.
If they click BACK - the BROWSER BACK button - I want to pop up a warning.
Quote:
Going back will return you to the client homepage, and all data entered for this project will be lost. Do you wish to proceed?
If they click NO they return to where they just were - as if they did not click BACK.
Is this possible?
If not - can I make BACK just return to the HomePage.aspx - as if all the NewProject.aspx postbacks were not new page entries in the BROWSER history.
Flickr does something like that. When you click on the "in the last minute" link and see recent photos - then click reload several times - each of those reloads does not go into BROWSER BACK history. If you click BACK you are back onto the initial [URL] home page.
I want to do something like this.

i have all the categories in my dataset. now i want my repeater to display it in alphabatically categories.
Okay so my situation at work is that I've written about 200 or so lines of additional functionality into an aspx page's code-behind that is currently not to be implemented. It is in a subroutine that handles an event that currently has zero chance of occurring.
Because this code is not being used, I've gotten curious. Should I comment out the subroutine that has zero chance of firing? Would it do anything to enhance the performance of the page or anything like that if I did indeed comment it out? Or could/should I just leave it as is?
Just going to start making a web application and was wondering which was better, or at least what are the main differences between them (as it probably matters what I am using them for)?
View 3 RepliesI have seen numerous posts with this problem, however none of the solutions have worked for me. I am using asp.net 4.0 forms authentication. I have the following set in my config file.
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="~/Account/Login.aspx" />
</authentication>
<authorization>
<deny users="?"/>
</authorization>
The login.aspx page uses a master page and styles in a stylesheet located in a folder off the root directory called 'Styles'. I have also add the following to my config file.
<location path="~/Styles">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow users = "*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>
When the page displays, the login page displays with the master page content, however all of the styles are missing. When I embed styles into the master page the styles show properly, so I know the problem is that the styles are not being accessed from the file. how I can authorize access to the stylesheet?
I am using a custom error page in IIS 6:<customErrors redirectMode="ResponseRedirect" mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error2.aspx"/>I want to disable authentication for the custom error page because the error being raised is related to an authentication module and I don't want to get into an infinite loop and I want to display a clean error page to the user. I have been trying the following configuration to do that.
<location path="Error2.aspx">
<system.web>
<authentication mode="None"/>

I've a got an Asp.Net site that is using Forms authentication, I've also got custom errors configured in the web.config. One of these is a special error page for 403's (access denied). My question is how do I get Forms authentication to work smarter?
I would like Forms authentication to send users to login page only if they are not authenticated. If they are I want it to defer to the custom error pages that i've defined in the web.config. This seems like something very basic, how can this be achieved?
[code]....
The error:
It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.
what I'm doing:
I need to enable forms authentication for only one of my pages.
so I made an application under my project using IIS and enabled its forms Authentication. The application contains the page that requires user to log in and a web.config. Below is the code of web.config under the application.
[Code]....
I can't move these codes to the main web.config of the project since in that case all the pages will require log-in.
I'm using Forms Authentication. Is there a way to determine whether a page (or request) required authentication or not? My site has logged-in areas, and logged-out areas (all set in web.config under authorization sections), and I'd like a good way to know if asp.net required authentication to be set or not.
I'm using ASP.Net 2.0
I have used form authentication, when i am trying to open the forgot passord page by click on link button that is on same login page. it needs authentication without authentication, i am not able to access the forgotpage.aspx

While run time if we click submit... login form will redirect to next page in Asp.net .. then if we press back button in the toolbar it will go back to previous page... How to check authentication for the page to disable previous page ....
View 1 Replieswe would like to redirect the user to a given page if the authentication to our SharePoint site fails (i.e. the standard windows login prompt pops up three times - we are using windows authentication). No matter what option we try it always ends up bringing the user back to a blank page.
We have tried writing a HttpModule (and catch the if Response.StatusCode = 401), which doesn't seem to fire any events if the user is not authenticated. We have tried writing a HttpHandler, but of course we can redirect the user if there is an error code but can't continue onto the desired site if not. We have tried doing the following in the web.config:
<customErrors mode="Off">
<error statusCode="401" redirect="http://social.msdn.microsoft.com"/>
</customErrors>
Which doesn't work, again taking us to a blank page.
In an asp.net mvc website, the site has enable forms authentication. The form login page is located in an area such as:
Area: Area1, Controller: Account, Action: Login
When a user is not yet authenticated and click on a link that requires authentication, the user is redirected to the login page. This does occur and redirect to the login page specify above. However during debug, it was found the area value is not included in the RouteData.Values object. That is, the RouteData.Values object has ONLY the follow value:
Controller: Account
Action: Login
In this case, it is presumed that the MVC application by default searches for the appropriate controller and action without consideration for including the area value. On contrast when I direct click on a link that directs to login page, all processing occurs as expected, i.e. the area value is included in the RouteData.Values object. Is there a work around for this?
i have an application and a user must log-in before he/she can access pages. now once the user logs in i keep the user details in a session variable (say Session["CurrentUser"]).now if a user tries to jump to a page directly i will check if the Session["CurrentUser"] has a value or not...if not then the user will be directed to the login page...my problem is that i have done this or rather say written this "Checking Code" on almost all the pages.
View 3 RepliesI am facing one problem while putting below code on master page load event.
if (!User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)
{
FormsAuthentication.SignOut();
FormsAuthentication.RedirectToLoginPage();
}
I am using asp.net 3.5 web.config to limit access and it works great.
<authentication mode="Windows">
<authorization>
<allow users="Bill, John"/>
<deny users="*"/>
</authorization>
Unauthorized (but authenticated) users will be blocked by a system error message saying that:
Server Error in '/' Application Access is denied.
Description: An error occurred while Error message 401.2: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration.
In order to make the message more friendly, I uncomment the customErrors flag and create a GenericErrorPage.htm in the root path of my project.
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="GenericErrorPage.htm">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess.htm" />
<error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm" />
</customErrors>
However, it just doesn't work. I still get the system error message rather than my custom error page.
I have a web application.
I user Forms authentication and set Login.aspx as the Login url.
So when I try to enter any other page in my address bar Iam redirected to Login page as per its setting.
But now I need to give a link called Register in Login.aspx page.
Clicking on Register link should take me to Register.aspx page.
But as per authentication settings Iam redirected to Login page.
So is there a way to omit or escape the register.aspx page from this authentication setting.
The problem is as follows: If a visitor try to access a page in Admin folder he must be redirected to login page located in Admin folder, here I will take his username and password and then I will check this in SQL Server table, if he is authenticated then he will be redirected to Default page and he can access any page in Admin folder, but not any page in User folderHere is one thing is important and that is login page in Admin folder and login page in User folder are differentSame scenario is for User folder Please tell me what is the right way to achieve this functionality
View 2 RepliesI have just installed SQL Server 2005. I selected windows mode authentication. I am not able to login in management studion. Now, I want to use mixed and server authentication option inplace of windows authentication. so, would that be possible after installation.
