How To Use Custom Errors Page In Windows Authentication

I am using asp.net 3.5 web.config to limit access and it works great.

Unauthorized (but authenticated) users will be blocked by a system error message saying that:
Server Error in '/' Application Access is denied.
Description: An error occurred while Error message 401.2: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration.
In order to make the message more friendly, I uncomment the customErrors flag and create a GenericErrorPage.htm in the root path of my project.
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="GenericErrorPage.htm">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess.htm" />
<error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm" />
</customErrors>
However, it just doesn't work. I still get the system error message rather than my custom error page.

I want put custom error page in my website so I wrote below code in web.config

I am using Windows authentication in my asp.net project. We need to implement the security based on the configured GroupNames.
To simulate the Project environment i have 3 pages in my application .
1.TestPage.aspx 2.Main.aspx 3.ErrorPage.htm
When logged in user is in group or role "MyDomainDatawarehouse" i need to give access to Main.aspx page.If User not in that group and user tries to access the Main.aspx page by typing url in the address bar of Browser then i need to redirect user to the ErrorPage.htm. But this is the place where my code is faling. I guess some thing wrong in the web.config.
Note: All the authenticated users are permittedto see TestPage.aspx irrespective of their roles.
Note : All the .aspx and htm pages are in the same root

Here's my Application_OnError event sink in global.asax.vb:

You'll see that if we've got an innermost Exception of type AccessDeniedException we throw a new HTTPExcpetion with a status code of 403 AKA 'forbidden'
Here's the relevant web.config entry:

<error statusCode="403" redirect="~/Secure/AccessDenied.aspx" />
</customErrors>
So what we're expecting is a redirect to the AccessDenied.aspx page. What we get is a redirect to the ServerError.aspx page.

I've been asked to upgrade a few applications and I'm planning on merging all of them into one asp.net application. I'm fine with this decision and have spoken with fellow workers and they also think it's the best option to go with.
The application will be accessed from a small group of users which belong to a larger domain. I'm currently planning on using Windows authentication and only allow this small set of users to access the asp.net application. Also there must be some role management, so that only certain users can view certain functionality.
I really don't want to have many different windows groups; so I want to avoid having to assign different windows groups to different folders and control permissions in the web.config.
What I'd like to do is:
- Assign one windows group to the small group of users who will access the page.
- Create a custom membership provider and control the user who accesses the application. Depending on the user I will then assign his current set of roles.
- Add an application setting to the web.config, with the name of the current administrator, so if he logs in, he will be assigned all roles, and will be able to create and assign roles to other users.

I have a C# web forms ASP.NET 4.0 web application that uses Routing for URLs for some reason custom errors defined in the system.web section of my web.config is entirely ignored and it will fall back the IIS errors.
This gets entirely ignored

This would be a minor inconvenience except that by the fact it falls back to IIS native instead of my application it completely circumvents Elmah logging my 404 exceptions correctly.

I'm trying to set up custom errors for asp.net in webconfig/global.asax on Server 2003, IIS 6. Got it working find for .aspx pages but not for any htm or html pages. So I found the article describing how to open IIS manager, click configuration, copy path for .aspx extension and add one for .htm Did that.
Restarted website: Now I get the blank white page explaining there's a problem but not the 404 page not found
Restarted web services: same thing

I am a more than a little confussled, my build succeeds with no errors but when I run without debugging only my error page shows up? I tried switching the custom errors to "Off" but it still shows up the error page.

When i try to view a PARTICULAR page in my web site, it prompts for user name and password. Irrespective of providing proper user name/password and clicking OK or directly clicking Cancel button, the page is getting loaded properly. I am not sure why the authentication screen appears!!! It happens only for that particular page. Initially I thought it could be with file permission but copy pasted another page (which works fine) and renaming it doesn't solve the problem.
EDIT
I copied the source from the browser for that particular page and saved it as HTML. When i try to open the HTML file, it prompts for authentication.
Solution
I disabled the Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS and it works fine.

In IIS 7.5 server I have a website apps.mydomain.com. Site binding for this website is:
IP: All Unassigned
Port: 80
Host name: apps.mydomain.com
In DNS there is an ip address pointing to apps.mydomain.com. Site comes up fine when browsing to this hostname.
I want to get current windows logged in username from asp.net web apps. I enabled windows authentication and disabled anonymous. Using this ASP.Net code to test:
Response.Write(Page.User.Identity.Name);
However, browsing to http://apps.mydomain.com/site/ the application pool identity shows as the Page.User.Identity.Name value and not the current windows logged in username.
If I browse to http://servername/site/ then Page.User.Identity.Name will return current windows logged in username.
Is there something else I need to configure to get the current windows logged in username when using host header?

I have a web page that refreshes every one minute and the solution times out every 20 minutes, would the one minute refresh be considered as user activity and therefore doesn't time out every 20 minutes? I've a got an Asp.Net site that is using Forms authentication, I've also got custom errors configured in the web.config. One of these is a special error page for 403's (access denied). My question is how do I get Forms authentication to work smarter?
I would like Forms authentication to send users to login page only if they are not authenticated. If they are I want it to defer to the custom error pages that i've defined in the web.config. This seems like something very basic, how can this be achieved?

I set authentication mode to Windows in the web.config and I enable Windows Authentication and disable the Anonymous Authentication in IIS 7 on win 7, but HttpContext.Current.User is always null.It works fine when I host the web app in IIS 6.0.

I need to capture the the windows logon user name without prompting for the user id and password and display that on the web site. I'm trying to enable automatic Window authentication working on our ASP.NET Intranet. I've changed the Authentication on our IIS 7.5 server from Anonymous to Windows Authentication Enabled only, and changed the Web.config file for the website to:

The Windows login box appears when accessing the website via IE 8, I enter valid credentials, but the login window keeps reappearing as if it does not accept my credentials. By repeatedly cancelling the login box it disappears, and my login name can be viewed on the website. Is there any possible reason for the login box to keep popping up even though valid credentials are being entered? I've restarted the servers / cleared browser cache etc. Also, ideally I would like the user to enter the login details once in the login box and not be required to reenter login details whenever he reopens the browser.

I have a web application (intranet based) which uses Windows Authentication. Unfortunately there are public computers that have public logins at some company locations. My web app doesn't support these public logins because I need to know the user workingSo, even though these public users are windows authentication users, my app will fail because I have no user account setup for that particular account. We have a working version of application (Intranet) with uses Windows Authentication deployed in Windows 2003. The application uses HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name to get the logged-in user. Here impersonate is turned off.Right now, we are move to Windows 2008 RC2 where this Windows Authentication problem arised. I have Digest Authentication and Windows Authentication enabled. And also I have enabled Anonymous Authentication enabled to avoid the Login dialog of IIS in the end-user IE. Now I am getting HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name as Empty.
