How To Show The Number Of Characters Left In A Multiline Textbox In C#
Apr 6, 2010
I have a multiline textbox which can contain only 500 characters. Now i want to show the user the number of characters left as they are typing into the textbox as is the case when we use twitter.
it's a multiline TextBox the MaxLength property does not work. At the moment I only see the option to use a CustomValidator with checking TextBox1.Text.Length on server side and perhaps in addition some Javascript client side validation. But isn't there a simpler way to do this, using the standard ASP.NET validators (RegularExpressionValidator, RangeValidator, CompareValidator, etc.)
1) Is it possible, in a multiline textbox, to automatically break to the next line after 100 characters? 2) If not, is it possible to parse the enter key as entered by the user to break the line in the code behind?
Some additional info:
The person requesting this does not think that the user should use a single line textbox limited to 100 characters and click an "Add Line" button to store that field in a table.
The person requesting this is of the belief that a DEC Alpha-based system that currently does this can be replicated on the web.
how to limit the number of characters per line in a multiline textbox? Any posibility to do this with javascript? I have the users enter a list of names and need to limit each. I hate to use another textbox to add each name. If so, I would then add them to a listbox instead so they could select and remove a name.
1 Soliev Firuz When he straightened again, the Roman was pulling off his helmet, 170sm 75kg 2 Sharipov Sadriddin The beardless cheeks and chin scarcely needed a razor. 160sm 85kg 3 Asrori Yatim His skin was white, mottled and peeling from exposure to the sun 190sm 95kg
But I want use txtsearch=”Soliev” and show in multiline textbox Information, Height ,weight like this:
On my current form I have it validating a Canadian Postal Address (xxx xxx). The space is optional but if the user does not use a space, then once the validation passes it will insert one. How can I count the first 3 characters of the textbox, insert a space, then add the rest of the characters?
I am assigning a value to .Text of a textbox retrieved from a database in Page_Load() but no characters are shown in the textbox after doing this. The value is indeed there when I try to read from it after the assignment. I would like to present some characters to the user even though they are the "dotted" password characters so they know a password has been entered here. Is it possible to do this?
I am using the asp.net and framework 2.0 with Ajax enable web.i have a text box and when user will enter "a" or number in this will search the name started from "a" character or number if he or she enter the number basically we can say live-search.
Employee search: Textbox. In this text box she/he will enter the first character of name or first number of employeeno and according to the a character name will search in list.
When changing the textbox's text mode to multiline the textbox becomes resizable during runtime. I can't seem to find the property to disable this, does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?
I have 9 tables i need data out of.. 8 of those tables will always just return 1 row of fields that i need. the 9th table can contain many records.. So what i need is a few fields out of each of the 8 tables and then ALL records from the 9th table.. so i know that because there will be multiple records in the 9th table returned, that the fields i pull from the other 8 tables will contain duplicate information and thats fine since i will be displaying the individual records from table 9 on their own page..So everything could be for the same vendor, except for the date in the 9th table that contains specific dates and details about each record returned. When i review the execution plan im getting an yellow exclamation icon on a nested inner join and has this message as the warning: No Join Predicate
Here is what i have, but is returning incorrectly, way to may records, seems to be stuck in a loop.. then below that, i have one that returns the correct number of records, but everything except one column is duplicate, all the TR columns should be unique in the values stored in them.. the rest should all be duplicates, just because its the same vendor, so all the other information will be generic information about that record.
[Code]....
This FROM and WHERE return the correct number of records, but the fields are all duplicated except the last column with is transaction_date, seems that the 3 TR fields are being populated with the first records data or something.. not sure.
I use this query for my table but it retrives the value for each row. It does not retrieve the size of the column name. I need to know the number of characters occupied in particular column. How do i get this value?
How can I set a asp.net text box to accept up to 20 characters? I was trying the range validator and I set it up to 0 min value and 20 max value. The prolem is that if I write 12933, the range validator errors appear saying "only 20 characters allowed" so I think it is adding the values.
I have a form that's used to submit emails. I'm not sure what the character limit should be for the body of the email. I'm thinking about setting it at 150. It's used to allow people to inquire about services provided by a small business. Should I allow more? Is this sufficient?
On my products page I have a small thumbnail and a description that is pulled from the database, since there is space restraints, how do I allow a max amount of characters, and if the description is longer append ... to the end? I'm using a data repeater and data binding for the content inside it.
I have made a user control using CollapsiblePanelExtender control. I am getting a small issue, that the panel that expands is not relative to the control. It always open on left side of the page. My control is in different location in different pages. How can I make sure that the expand and collapse is with respect to the control? I see "left: -36px" in the style attribute of "SettingsContentPanel". How can it be relative and doesn't break the code.
this works good when I am using it for a normal(singleline) textbox. But when i use this with Multiline textbox it does not work. I am using RegularExpressionValidator control of asp.net for the same.Would there be any way I can make it compatible with Multiline textbox?
