In my application, I have users and advisors.Here users can chat with advisors. so if user click the chat initiate button, we are updating the database. Is there any possibility that this update can produce an alert in advisors system with a sound [even if he is working with some other application like watching a movie,checking his email] . (possibly some type of balloon pop up from system tray). If any source code available in C#.

strFilePath = Directory.GetCurrentDirectory();
strFilePath = Directory.GetParent(strFilePath).ToString();
strFilePath = Directory.GetParent(strFilePath).ToString();
strFilePath = strFilePath + "\ACH" + "/ACHFile.txt";
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(strFilePath);
if i browse for a text file and displays it in the text box and trying to save it as the name provided above i am getting the error as Directory Not Found Exception.

So I have a strange problem. I have 2 LinkButtons on a form with their OnCommand event attached. Everything works fine locally when debugging but when I publish the web site with I get the following error:
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
I also tried the OnClick event but I get the same results.
This is being published to IIS 7.
The OnCommand is just doing a redirect. I can manually do the redirect by entering the url the same way it's passed to redirect and it works fine. I also tried putting some code in just to verify that the event really gets called on the server and it seems it doesn't. Although it does work fine locally. I also tried removing all the files from the server and doing a clean publish just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

I've created a new web application project in Visual Studio 2008, and then copied in some code from a project created with an older VS version. For instance, I'll add a new web form item in my project, say, "Shop.aspx". Then copy the older code into the new file. The trouble is that referenced supporting files get a "not found" warning.
So, I'll have a line in the .aspx like:
<link media="all" href="ShopStyle.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" />
The file ShopStyle.css resides in the same root folder of my project as Shop.aspx, but I get a "not found" warning about it. Or I'll have something like
<img alt="" src="Images/Navbar/MainLogoImage.gif" height="54"/>
Where MainLogoImage.gif is in the "Images/Navbar/" subfolder of my project folder and I get the same warning.
I've made sure that I added all of these existing items into my project in Solution Explorer.

I'm using visual studio 2010 professional. I have my javascript files in a subdirectory called javascripts where I am holding all those files respectively. I am constantly having to remove (from the head section) the external javascript link. Then rename the javascript file in the javascript's folder, then re-add the external file back to the head section again. The reason of having to do this is somethimes when I am editing the js file, and then go to test it, the aspx page doesnt seem to see the code anymore. I've tried different browsers, closing the window and reopening, deleting temp int files, but all to no success. Has anyone else had this happen, is there a better workaround??if i open the js file in the browser, the functions are showing properly.

I am working in asp.net 4.5 with VS2013. I have two usercontrols in my aspx page and in my first usercontrol i have gridview with button inside update panel  and if i press the button it should pass the value to second userconrol and based on the value i will do some db operation to bind the controls in second usercontrol.
I am wondering is it possible to achieve using AJAX? I need to do this with partial postback without posting entire content of the page.

I am developing an ASP.NET 3.5 web application and I have a folder in the project which contains a list of documents which could be pdf or any of the MS office 2003 or 2007 supported file formats. I would like to display these files to my users as thumbnails (just like the way windows displays files). And when the user clicks on a file it has to prompt them to either save the file or open in the browser itself. How can I achieve this?

By default ASP.NET's compiled files (Along with VB or C#) are saved and created in
C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Filesoot...Is there a way to change it? or is it recommended to keep it at default?I am asking about changing it because what if you format the c drive? or some other reason as keeping functional files in a separate folder away from windows files.
