How To Upgrade Code To New Version Of Third Party Control
Oct 21, 2010
I have a web application in asp.net 3.5 where i have been using some third party controls i.e. Devexpresv9.2 and on the pages where i am using these controls i normally has to call the register tag on the page markup like for ex:
Now i have updated the version of devexpress controls installed on my machine and it has stopped working because the version installed on my machine is v10.0 but my code is looking for v9.2 how can i modify my code in such a way that in future if i install another version then i don't have to modify all the pages and references again.
i am working in webapplication in asp.net using c#.I have a problem that currently i am using ajaxcontroltoolkit version 3.0.20820.0 but in this toolkit i don't have Editor Ajax control so i want to upgrade it with new version ajaxcontroltoolkit version 3.5.40412.2
When i upgrade it then my old ajax control is not working like validatorcalloutextender and requiredfieldvalidator etc.
so please tell me how can i upgrade ajaxcontroltoolkit version from 3.0.20820.0 to version 3.5.40412.2
i also use in web.config file but not successfull.
and it was working well even After I upgraded my wevbsite to .net version 4 but when I started a new website from scratch in vs2010 using .net4 when I use ajax toolkit in this new site it is registered as folowing
and when I run the page I get the error The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>) I don't Know what is the reason for this. I noticed another thing. in my old website I was using thckbox script by using the files common.js, jquery-1.3.2.js,jquery.thickbox.js and puting them in a Javascript folder ad then registering them in Script manager as following
this was working well also but in my new site the jquery file version was jquery-1.4.1.js but also I added the old version f the javascripts files in the built in Scripts folder that is created by default b the new site and followed the same way in registering them in the script managerchange the JavaScript folder to the built in folder Scripts
but this doesn't work also in the new site I think that there is something diffirent in the 2 case which leads to this change in performance I wish your support and advice about how to solve this matter
In my present project i have to convert some file formats into PDF.The source file formats may be MSOffice(.doc,.docx,.xls,.xlsx,.ppt,.pptx) and Images(.jpg,.png,.jpeg,.tiff).We wish not to use any third party library. The code should be in c#.
Code in DLL can only be obfuscated. IN my DLL how can I import a third party DLL into my DLL? Can I obfuscated the code but not the functions and sub header names?
I'm working on a SharePoint solution which makes use of a third party dll (Telerik for Asp.Net Ajax - Telerik.Web.UI.dll) for rich experience. Since Telerik dll is a common assembly i have to deploy it to the bin folder of the webapplication instead of GAC. So here comes the problem.
WSPBuilder automatically deploys the dll to gac if the dll presents in the GAC folder. To deploy the telerik dll in bin i created the folder 80in and copied the dll there. I tried to build the wsp again and then went through the manifest.xml created. Great. The deployment target for the dll changed to WebApplication and wspbuilder was smart to create the cas policy itself.
But Wspbuilder was not smart enough to put the four part name of SharePointPermission IPermission class. But i learnt that CAS actually requires the four part name. So i decided to make use of the -CustomCAS command line option of wspbuilder.exe to pass my custom cas policy file.
I upgraded my site to works with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, works with .net 4.0 and new ajax tools. My site is manage on our site . Now it work on win server 2003 sp2 frameworks 2.0 ajax ast.net 2.0

How do we code "findcontrol" with a third party control? I tried "TextBox" for Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" and it threw an error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Here is the offending line:
Dim Body As String = Convert.ToString(CType(lsvBlocks.InsertItem.FindControl("FreeTextBox"), TextBox).Text)
I have a web report(.aspx page). I like to have a functionality to export that report into pdf format. Is there any way I can export it to PDF format without using any third party control or product? Or any other way I can use report viewer control's export feature in web page and hiding report viewer control?
I want to intergrate Document Management Library into my mvc application. so is there any Document Management Library 3rd party control or service available. so i can easily intergrate it into my site.
I'm trying to upgrade a website to the new Release of AjaxControl Toolkit but I have some problems. If I modify the reference to the library I recibe an error because the new realese use an other version of System.Web.Extensions (3.5.0.0), I add a new reference to this new version of System.Web.Extensions and delete the old version but I still having errors.
In my website I have a WebService. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 (Framework 2.0) and this is my Web.config:
I am using Asp.net 3.5. In my application I am handling errors at application level in Global.asax. I am using 3rd party control FpSpread in my application. In all the pages where I've that control, it's throwing "File does not exist" error when first time postback occurs in IE (on every postback in FF). From the log I got following Details:
04/01/2010 11:32:18 : The error description is as follows : [URL] Type- System.Web.HttpException Message- File does not exist. Stack Trace- at System.Web.StaticFileHandler.GetFileInfo(String virtualPathWithPathInfo, String physicalPath, HttpResponse response) at System.Web.StaticFileHandler.ProcessRequestInternal(HttpContext context) at System.Web.DefaultHttpHandler.BeginProcessRequest(HttpContext context, AsyncCallback callback, Object state) at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) Targetsite- System.IO.FileInfo GetFileInfo(System.String, System.String, System.Web.HttpResponse)
It is trying to refer wrong URL because my css is in App_Themes/Blue directory and my page is in /Forms/Company directory. Has anyone encountered similar issue before?? Is this the issue related to theme?? I am not trying to load any images programmatically.
I upgrade to VS2010 and I no longer sees the UpdatePanel control available. I do have the latest AJAX Control Toolkit but I do not see this option. In addition, I kept getting the above error. How do I resolve this issue?
I have a highly complicated web site that is under source control and has a long history. I would like to migrate this website into a web application project but I do not want to lose the source control history. We use Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server (Currently 2005 tfs but we are in the process of upgrading to 2010).create a webapplication project and migrate the files from the web application into it without losing the source control connections?
I use UserVoice at [URL]. I like the service a lot but would like to be hosted on my servers. Is there an php or ASP.NET equivalent to UserVoice which is free, source code included and can work with MySQL. An automated import from UserVoice will be a very welcome plus.
We have encountered this difference in file creation while using a HttpHandler Versus a Code Behind Aspx page. We are reading a saved jpg/png picture as byte array from a 'Image' field in sql server database and create a physical file in the server. Both the Aspx Page and Httphandler use the same code pasted below.
//Begin int docID = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString["DocID"]); var docRow = documentDB.GetDocument(docID); // Retrieve the physical directory path for the Uploads subdirectory string destDir = Server.MapPath("../../Uploads").ToString() + "\"; string strFileName = destDir + DateTime.Now.ToFileTime() + "_" + docRow.DocName.ToString(); FileStream fs = new FileStream(strFileName, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write); fs.Write(docRow.DocData, 0, docRow.DocData.Length); fs.Flush(); fs.Close(); // End
After the file is created, it is viewable as a jpg/png Image only in Aspx Code Behind. While in case of HttpHandler it is not a valid Image.
We have an application that is already deployed in the production environment. And currently it is using Dundas evaluation version. We tried updating it to the licensed version by simply pasting the dll file. but we got the error message as "The file has not been pre-compiled and cannot be requested".
I have been searching a lot about how to create custom server control also creating controls like some third party controlsbut i cant find any resource regarding that, most of the links explained only basic things with custom label, hypher link like that but i wish to learn bit advanced including fundamental concepts.so can any one show me the link/ebook about concepts behind building a re-usable control (properties and property grid integration in VS/VWD, event handlers, rendering, design-time UI, default tag-prefix and naming, toolbox icon, etc)
I'm try to get my site to detect what browser someone is using to ensure they're using one that is compliant with our site. Everything works, except Firefox seems to post the wrong version in the Request.Browser variables.I'm on Firefox 3.6.10, but Request.Browser shows Mozilla 1.9.2.10. It's correct in the HTTP_USER_AGENT string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 YFF35 Firefox/3.6.10 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Is there a way to detect it better without having to parse through the HTTP_USER_AGENT string?
Is there any limit on the size/numbers in the version number of the FormsAuthenticationTicket.
I tried to create an ASP.NET cookie using forms authentication, with a large version number(ex: 1234567 need this number for identification purposes). But when I decrypt the cookie I get 135 as the version number.
Initially the old forms authentication cookie was removed, in order to add new information.
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this workstation with SQL 2000, 2005 Express, 2008 Express and I think 2008 R2 (not sure if that is a version itselve or not)
I will call that workstation HOME
I created some tables in SQLEXPRESS through VS2008.
I worked on this project on another workstation that I just installed VS2008 annd SQLEXPRESS 2008 and I know that was R2
Installed Visual Studio 2010 trial edition between the thiem I made the tables on HOME and tonight for the first time since that install
I am now getting the "cannot be opened becuase it is version Version 661. This Server supports version 655..."
What to do now?
I can opened SQLExpress 2008 management studio and it is running.
So is my SQL 2000. The problem seems to be that after the VS2010 install neither VS2008 or VS2010 can connect to the SQLExpress 2008
What do I do now?
I can't remove sql 2000 because it is tied to several 3+ gig databases that will not work in Express.
I noticed that the DLLs in the bin folder for asp.net websites do not seem to be getting saved. When I goto a new computer and get latest I am missing the DLLs.What is the correct way to fix this ? Should I create a seperate folder to contains all DLLs ? And then can I somehow tell my bin references to goto that folder to get the DLLs?
