Identify Computer And Where It Belongs In Web Application / Website

simple explanation like:- four blocks all connected to one server hosting a website using iis 5 c# i want if user from block a accesses the home page the page says block A user how are you, same goes for all blocks so how to identify from where the request is coming from in this simple scenerio
I've got an application that needs to do some work on startup (before the first request is in). I've added the initialization code in the global.asax file (Application_start method) but this code doesn't seem to be hit after an iis reset is performed.Is there an event which is triggered in an asp.net application when an iis reset has occurred?
I work in a multi server , multi webfarm environment (without sessions). We need to be able to identfy if a customer has arrived here for the first or has been before (even though they have not logged in)Not only will we change the text of our salutations depeding on this state but we will also use it in other busness logic. I can check for the existance of a cookie when they fire the Session_onStart event but I would have to write a cookie out to show they had previously visited for the next time the customer came to call.
If I wrote the cookie out in the Session_onStart then somehow I would have to tell the website that this was a first time visit. Also as this is a stateless webfarm - the next server may be different from the previous one which would fire a new Session_onStart event in its own right - which would see the cookie and assume it was not my first visit, even though it was my first visit on a different web page of the web site.
I dont want to write it out and say if its within X minutes of the cookie creation time you are still in your first visit as that x minutes wouldnt work 100% of the time If I dont write the cookie out on Session_onStart then when could I write it out?
(I am developing a website to crawl the other website content in ASP.NET . I am able to get the content correctly but how can I identify which language is used based on that content. For Ex. English, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese etc.
I used following code.
HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(TextBox1.Text ); request.UserAgent = "A .NET Web Crawler"; WebResponse response = request.GetResponse(); Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream(); StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(stream); string htmlText = reader.ReadToEnd();
I have a server application that runs in a hosted environment but creates print jobs in the client's local network (behind NAT; the mechanics of this is not relevant).
In order to send the print job to the printer that is attached to the workstation, I need to identify the workstation. The users move around between workstations, so I can't permanently associate a user with a workstation/printer. The trivial solution is to require the user to identify the machine he is logging in from, for instance by selecting from a list, but that's an inconvenience and subject to user error.
Options I have eliminated:
Host header variables (nothing identifiable is sent) Cookies, in support of a user selection. This somewhat addresses the potential for user error, but not really. HTML5 DOM Storage - is not supported by the client's browser
Edit: I do have the option of puttnig this particular function (create a print job) into a thick client app. The app can then of course be configured and the problem goes away. But the user experience will suffer from having to switch between the browser and a Windows app.
My client has given me a project in which he wants to access any file from his computer over internet through website. Do some one has any idea from where to start. Note:- A user has to install windows application in which he will select the files,videos,audio to be accessed and Through website he will access those files or able to play music or videos through website when his computer is on.
Is there a function similar to CopyWebsite that would allow me to compare the files between my laptop and the hosted webserver? Tonight I deleted all the files off of my computer and downloaded the complete website from the hosted server just to ensure that I had the most recent copy. It would have been nice to have run a comparison routine to see if the files were identical. I have using Visual Studio 2010 Pro
I'm developing a website using Visual Studio 2010 Beta on computer 1. The site is working...I can debug, the pages render in a browser and I even have Member accounts working. Life is good.
I'm trying to move the application to the new computer (computer 2). I've downloaded Visual Studio Beta 2010 (slightly different look and feel) and copied the project over.
When I try to run the project in the new computer I'm getting the error:
Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive.
Not sure where to go with this. The web.config file is identical on both computers. The project is set to run with .Net 4 on both computers. Not sure why the targetFramework attribute would be allowed on computer 1 but not on computer 2.Maybe the earlier version of VS 2010 on computer 1 is allowing something that shouldn't be allowed?
now i want to access this website from another computer.
how to do that....(means i want to make a web server and want to deploye my website and also want to access that website from anywhere over the internet)this is easily done into the wemp server but how to do into iis server. Is there any services of iis are dissabled onty any other seetting requiered.
I wanted to run a .net application on a laptop. I created the application(aspx pages and SQL database) on a computer that has VS 08 installed. Now i wanted to run this application on a laptop that does not have SQL sever 2005 installed.
As far as the aspx pages if i publish them to a zip drive copy it to my laptop and go into IIS and define a new virtual directory to point where my pages are that should work RIGHT??
Now for the database i don't know what i need to do
I wrote a asp.net website with Jquery. I was using it to post and get data's from the Sql Server database with Generic Handlers (.ashx). I also used Jquery Autocomplete plugin. Everything I wrote works just fine in the computer that I use. Then my company wanted to deploy the website to their server. When they run the website on that computer everything works fine including autocompletion but one part that i wrote doesn't function. I used in javascript code $.post and $.get functions and not working properly i guess... It works on my computer and i double checked the connection strings in the other computer to make sure that it is not a database problem. I couldn't find a solution. I am not allowed to give the codes in my company so i need to ask that may that be the cause of version of jquery i use? Does it vary depends on it? Because the computers that i tried to run the applications have different versions of internet explorer. Or I know it is nearly impossible but may jquery corrupt on changing of computers ?. I tried everything but I couldn't find a solution. The thing that confuses me is the autocomplete plugin of Jquery works just fine. The version of Jquery that i use is 1.2.6 and I use .NET Framework 2.0.
How can i identify just from the HttpContext Object that the HttpRequest coming to my application is from a cookieless application or cookieless browser?
I there a way to get the user id that they signed on to the computer with from web site project, without changing IIS so they will have to login? This will be interanet and remote internate users.
Is it possible to read data from serial port of client system using asp.net web site. Here is my scenario
I will be having computers connected in LAN and a web application which resides on server. Each client computer will be connected to a external machine using serial port and is ready for reading data, external machine measures equipment details and sends through serial port.Now I need to read the same data using my web page, is it possible?
Like when we do video chatting our web page reads data from web cam and sends the stream to web page. this way how can I read data from client machine to web page.
On Visual Studio's web server: dd/MM/yyyy en-US On IIS: M/d/yyyy en-US
Does "Regional and Language Options" in "Control Panel" play any role in this ? If I change the date format there in "Regional and Language Options", I see no effect in my application.
I am running a website from IIS on one computer and I want to view the web page on another computer. the only way I can do this is by using the ipaddress of the computer with IIS on it but would rather have a url. How can I generate a url or use a domain name from [URL]. I signed up for an account on that website but dont know how to use it. I dont know how to configure it.
I have an asp.net (FW 3.5) web app that runs on an internal network. One specific page needs to "report" in to the web server that it is active and not locked up. I need to be able to run a script (or something) at the client to report the pc's computer name in that report. I cannot find a method that does this. I found several things that would report the WAN IP or host name, but this appears to all be for external facing sites.
I am new to .NET dev and I cut and paste a lot of code. One strugel i have is when I I use a class name, I need to find out what I need to add in the reference (using clause at the top) and what DLL to use. Is their a easy way to find out what class is on what DLL. My pc is littered with 500 - 600 .NET dll.
What i am trying to do is that i have records that are in ascending order. Now, i have to get a few lowest data rows(based on the average) from the table and add them to a separate table and delete the rows from the previous table.
This is my code where i am getting the top few rows and adding them to the array list (I have also tried DataRow[], DataRowCollection, string[] but i get the same error).
I want to get all the processes that is meant for a particular session. i.e if there are two persons who are using my web application then i want to get all the processes used by user1 and all the processes used by user2.
I can get all processes by writing Process.GetProcesses() but how to get it in a group.
I have a windows user accounts which i just created take XYZ for example.
This XYZ belongs to a User group and a custom group i created in Computer Management --> Local users and groups.
So in properties i see that the user belongs to the 2 groups.
Now i want to get those groups and display them. any suggestions???
i have done this but this is not right as it gives me the roles of SQL (i think)
here is what i did:
after logging in and impersonating i call the function
getUserGroups();
private void getUserGroups() { // collect the user domain and identity string[] arr = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request. LogonUserIdentity.Name.Split('\'); // update the display to show // the captured domain and user if (arr.Length > 0) { new GUIUtility().LogMessageToFile("User Name" + arr[0].ToString()); new GUIUtility().LogMessageToFile("User Domain" + arr[1].ToString()); } // create an arraylist and populate // it with the list of groups that // the current user belongs to ArrayList al = new ArrayList(); al = GetGroups(); // check to see if the user belongs // to a specific group and create // a list of all of the user's groups foreach (string s in al) { // add this one to the list new GUIUtility().LogMessageToFile("Group" + s); // check to see if the user // belongs to a specific group //if (s == "BXSWLT\SomeCustomGroup") //{ // // change the label to show // // there was a match // lblMemberOfGroup.Text = "YES"; //} } } public ArrayList GetGroups() { ArrayList groups = new ArrayList(); foreach (System.Security.Principal.IdentityReference group in System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request.LogonUserIdentity.Groups) { groups.Add(group.Translate(typeof (System.Security.Principal.NTAccount)).ToString()); } return groups; }
the Result i get is:
9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: User Name NT AUTHORITY. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: User Domain IUSR. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: Group Everyone. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: Group BUILTINUsers. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: Group NT AUTHORITYAuthenticated Users. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: Group NT AUTHORITYThis Organization. 9/8/2010 5:57:22 PM: Group LOCAL.
I have an ASP.NET 3.5 application using Windows Authentication and implementing our own RoleProvider.
Problem is we want to restrict access to a set of pages to a few thousand users and rathern than inputing all of those one by one we found out they belong to an AD group.
The answer is simple if the common group we are checking membership against the particular user is a direct member of it but the problem I'm having is that if the group is a member of another group and then subsequently member of another group then my code always returns false.
For example: Say we want to check whether User is a member of group E, but User is not a direct member of *E", she is a member of "A" which a member of "B" which indeed is a member of E, therefore User is a member of *E"
One of the solutions we have is very slow, although it gives the correct answer
using (var context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain)) { using (var group = GroupPrincipal.FindByIdentity(context, IdentityType.Name, "DL-COOL-USERS")) { var users = group.GetMembers(true); // recursively enumerate return users.Any(a => a.Name == "userName"); } }
The original solution and what I was trying to get to work, using .NET 3.5 System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement and it does work when users are direct members of the group in question is as follows:
public bool IsUserInGroup(string userName, string groupName) { var cxt = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, "DOMAIN"); var user = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(cxt, IdentityType.SamAccountName, userName); if (user == null) { return false; } var group = GroupPrincipal.FindByIdentity(cxt, groupName); if (group == null) { return false; } return user.IsMemberOf(group); }
The bottom line is, we need to check for membership even though the groups are nested in many levels down.
