Javascript - Asynchronous Logging In JQuery?

Dec 7, 2010

Javascript code:

$.ajaxSetup({
async: true
});[code]...

ASP.NET code on the logsomething page on the server:

Thread.Sleep(10000);

When I click a link I have to wait for a response from the server. In this case I have to wait 10 seconds before I am forwarded to the page I requested.Is it possible to prevent this?

Logging From Framework Internals (Logging.On) - How To Turn On Logging

Jul 6, 2010

I'm debugging some unexpected behavior and while tracing in to the .NET framework I see a bunch of stuff like this:

if (Logging.On) {
Logging.PrintInfo(Logging.Web, this, SR.GetString(SR.net_log_n_certs_after_filtering, filteredCerts.Count));
...
}

But (as expected by default) the execution steps right over these. Is there some way to turn on the logging? Or is that just something that the framework developers can do while making special builds of the framework?

AJAX :: Asynchronous Web Services, JQuery Or .NET (BeginInvoke) Calls?

Sep 24, 2010

I have been moving my application to be more AJAX-based. Currently I have a web service call where I use jQuery to gather some textbox (string) and checkbox (boolean) results and pass it to a web service. Everything works really well, the response time is super quick. The only downside that I can see to this is

1) you need to use jQuery, which will add to the user's download time - this doesn't really affect my application too much because I am using jQuery throughout the site

2) users can see the code and potentially try to hack the web service because they know where it is

I am most concerned with #2. I've been reading a lot about .NET web service calls, using IAsyncResult,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2e08f6yc.aspx, and I am beginning to understand the 4 methods available in this article. However, is there extra bloat using this way compared to the jQuery web service call?If there isn't that much bloat or lag time using this method, I'd like to convert my application. Which one of these 4 methods is best in a scenario where I am just returning a small string value? The 4 methods in the article are to wait for EndInvoke itself, which from what I read is not recommended because this may block the first thread; and this should not be used on a service that affects the UI.Create a WaitHandle to wait for the 'OK' before EndInvoke is called Poll the IAsyncResult for .IsCompleted, using sleep() and a Do While until IAsyncResult.IsCompleted is true, then call EndInvoke Pass a delegate function to BeginInvoke to be called once the operation is complete.

Performance - What Logging Listener Should Be Used In Production ( Logging Application Block)

I'm using MS Enterprise Logging Application Block in an ASP.NET website.

For production launch, I will set up a log listener in one of these locations:

Sql Server database
Windows event log
Text files

Which has the least impact on performance?

NB - I can't switch to Log4Net or ELMAH at this point, so don't suggest that in your response.

Enterprise Library Logging Not Logging To Event Log?

Jun 3, 2010

I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log. I have a web application and console application with the same Ent Lib config but only the console application is capable to log into the Event Log. I tried everything with permissions but I don't know what exactly I am doing — which services should have what. It does not work!

I read articles like this[URL] and I want to try to give the ASPNET account those permissions. I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find ASPNET user account. So where is it?

This is the config file which is automatically generated from Ent Lib utility and it works only on App.config, not on web.config:

Best Practices In Using Javascript In A Pre-AJAX And Pre-jQuery Era?

Jan 25, 2010

I would like to know what are the best practices in using Javascript in ASP.NET in a pre-AJAX and pre-jQuery era. What I meant by pre-era is not the time before AJAX/jQuery was created, but rather the time before it is popularized and widely adopted (by a significantly large number of programmers).i.e. Is it good thing to store the script in a string variable and register it on demand (RegisterClientScriptBlock) or on startup (RegisterStartUpScript)?Although in using Javascript in ASP.NET, its usage in PHP and JSP are also welcome.
