Javascript - Is There A Way To Add Client Methods To User Controls
Jan 7, 2010
I recently discovered the client-side methods of some of the controls in the Microsoft ajax control toolkit. For instance, with the TabContainer, I can do something like this:
without having to resort to server side code. Is there a way to do this in your own custom user controls without too much work?UPDATE: I was going to implement show and hide methods: although setting display to none would probably work just fine, they would prefer an explicit method. I know that the ajax control toolkit controls have a set_visible method. Do user controls get this too?
I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)
<script type="text/javascript"> function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...
There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.
[code]... Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.
Maybe I've picked a totally inappropriate/bad example. What I have is a user control that contains a bunch of dynamically created Telerik RadGrids. My user control is added to a couple of Telerik RadPageViews that are part of a RadMultiPage that is used alongside a RadTabStrip. What I need to do is call a Javascript function in my usercontrol to update it's display whenever it's parent RadPageView is selected. So basically I have the following Javascript code:
function OnClientTabSelected(sender, args) { // Get the MyControl that is on this tab var myControl = $find("whatever"); // Call a method that updates the display myControl.doSomething(); }
I have two checkboxes: cb1 and cb2. They are both hooked up to an onClick event which checks if at least one checkbox is clicked. If this is not the case, it throws an alert and reverts the change. If a legal change was made (e.g. cb2 was checked, followed by cb1 being unchecked), the function calls the server function checkChange() which needs the object and eventargs.
I'm having trouble with the following:
Reverting the change: how can i find out which checkbox was clicked without adding an extra javascript function for the second checkbox? This has to be a scalable solution as more checkboxes may be added later. How do I call the server function checkChange(). I am aware of "this.Page.GetPostbackEventReference" but I am confused as to the parameters it takes.
I implemented custom soap extension and registered it into client application configuration file. It works fine.
(I would like to implement progress bar functionality like [URL]
But I don't like some thing - custom soap extension is invoked by every call of my web service. In order to fix this situation (call WS just by required methods) I implemented custom SoapExtensionAttribute like below:
[AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method)] public class CustomSoapExtensionAttribute : SoapExtensionAttribute { public override int Priority { get; set; } public CustomSoapExtensionAttribute() : this (1)
[Code]....
I added this attribute to required methods of web service proxy classes (and removed registration into client configuration file).
My soap extension doesn't invoke when required web methods are calling. Anotherone, I don't know it is important or not - my required methods are async web methods.
Where can I go to find documentation about client side properties and methods of an asp:listbox controls. I need to access the control at client side but can not find any documentation of the properties and methos available a client side.
I'm doing a project in asp.net with a web services. My web services and my asp.net project is separate and my asp.net projet have a reference of my web services. i'm using visual studio 2008 framework 3.5 and my service web is in vb.net. i want to call the web methods of my web services in javascript my script manager is declared
<asp:ScriptManager runat="server" ID="scriptManager" EnablePageMethods="true" > <Services> <asp:ServiceReference path="http://localhost:2931/ServiceCompas.asmx"/> </Services> </asp:ScriptManager> the javascript fuctions <script type="text/javascript"> function test() { alert('test'); Service1.Liste_Carte(Onsucced); } function Onsucced(resultat) { alert('je suis passée'); } </script>
service1 is the class of my Webservice and i call the function test with my button <input name="btnRecherche" class="btnRechercher" type="button" value="Rechercher un emplacement" onclick="test()" /> the problem is : JavaScript say Service1 is not defined but why .... What's the problem ? I've checked many forums and videos every body did it sorry for the french variable
I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration...I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page.The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers.However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on.What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss.
yes client side must be java script but my qustion is not that.i am asking that can i use c# language to implement "actions" fired on "click side events" such as mouse over the reason for this question is that i remember some syntax of registering functions for particular events of formview, which are call when the event occurs (yes there ispostback involved" is something like the above possible for client side events using c# or even vb.net
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Label3.Text = "this is label three"; Label3.Attributes.Add("OnMouseOver", "testmouseover()"); } protected void testmouseover() { Label4.Text = "this is label 4 mouse is working!!"; }
I want to enhance a composite control's client side, my approach is to recreate all method on JavaScript, so here I have some troubles:Can I call onclick event on client side otherwise on server side?the statement table.onclick=SelectRow(event) fires a bug!Code:
function Control_Init() { if( !(document.getElementById) ) { return; } for( var i = 0; i < Controls.length; i++ ) {
I hava a page default.aspx having master page abc.aspx and web user control login.ascx i want to call perform simple alert function on login button but not on client click event. For e.g
Protected Sub BtnMyIpLogin_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnMyIpLig.Click
'Some Validation part here for user login
'then my if condition like
If flag_alert = 0 Then Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "btnflag", "alert('Your Download / View Limit Exceed More Than 90%');", True) End If
As a starting point for creating custom controls, I would like to make a control that simply displays a number. If we imagine the .ascx file contains nothing except for a literal control, and the code behind sets that value to 1.
I then want to be able to do myControl.increment(); This will run some javascript that increases the value of the literal control.
I could inject a javascript into the page, such as pseudocode:
I've tried creating checkboxes, literalcontrols and textboxes. I need to generate checkboxes dynamically, depending on how many types of <whatever> the user has put in. I know how to do this (I think), but the problem is the controls don't work as they should.
If I create server controls, then for some reason I can't change the value with javascript. If I create client controls, then something appears to happen with the id so the server can't fetch the value (it doesn't recognize the id, allthough it's there in the html)
I can't use a regular checkbox with autopostback because there is to much happening at page load. On other pages on the site, this works, but on those pages the controls are not created dynamically.
I have a user control written in C# in a Telerik ajaxified page. I wrote a context menu using RadContextMenu and everything works fine except one of my menu items is "refresh". How can I refresh my user control from javascript? Basically it needs to some how force the TelerikAjaxManager to refresh my control.
it is possible to cache an ASP.NET UserControl on the Client.
I have an User Control that queries a DB and renders a GridView. It must be on the Client because the query results vary from user to user (by the User.Identity.Name).
I am calling server side methids from client side using PageMethods. Can those methods return value back to client side. If yes then how and if no then how can that be achieved? refer to my code below.
I have set up the membership provider on my own database and can create people fine.I wanted to be able to add more attributes than what the method is offering me.w I would change the method to accept more? Where is it?
Is there any way to add a confirmation dialog to a submit button when the form already has other validation controls and a summary control using "showmessagebox=true"? I tried adding
OnClientClick="return confirm('Are you sure?');" to the submit button, but that seems to block all of the other validation?
I have created a user control that has a gridview. During binding I set some common properties like height and width. To do so, I have created public properties. I have created the public property so that user can also set the height and width themselves. But if user didn't specify then I use my defaults.
My problem is that user settings are always overridden by my default settings. I want to set the default values as the control is rendered on the page and then if user apply his settings then it shold override. Which event/method is best on user control to jandle such scenario? Where should I write the code to call my default settings so that it is first thing that happens? What is the user control life cycle?
