Jquery - Implementing Continuous Scrolling UI Pattern
Mar 11, 2011
I have implemented Continuous Page Scrolling according to this post given below [URL] But problem is. How to handle post back events on scrolling e-g On Scrolling i render a user control in ashx handler where I have a asp.net button with click event but don't know how to handle click event because on clicking it does not fire click event except submiting a form and redirect to ashx handler with white screen.

want to make sure I am not assuming something foolish here, when implementing the singleton pattern in an ASP .Net web application the static variable scope is only for the current user session, right? If a second user is accessing the site it is a different memory scope...?

I want to know how to show A jquery lightbox modal from a link placed inside the listview. My Code Is As Follows.
[Code]....
I am using server side code to assign image to the image control.
And some javascripts to assign the href of anchor tag.
The Problem which I am facing Currently is as follows:-
If I am clicking on the image of 1st row then the jquery light box modal is working perfectly but when i am clicking on the image of other rows then its not working.
What I think, when the listview tries to repeat the rows the id of that anchor tag & image control is getting changed and the javascript which I am usiong to assign the href attribute of anchor tag, cannot find an id for that same anchor tag and the image control.

Having some problems with a solution that apparently works:
<script type="text/javascript" >
//following code utilizes jQuery 1.2.6
var prev = 0;
$(document).ready(
[Code].....
It doesn't ever seem to hit my AsyncHandler, not sure if my selectors are wrong since I'm using a Masterpage in ASP.net, but it seems to be picking up the elements.

I've recently been using Steve Sanderson's knockout js library http://knockoutjs.com/ in my client side web development. I just recently found out that microsoft has contributed code to jQuery for a Data Link plugin that seems to duplicate what I like about knockout.[URL]

what is the correct way to pass data through the AJAX calls and have it be model-binded into an object inside my Controller Action?
So far, I've read in some places that jQuery sends data in key-value pairs, so I don't have to do anything extra, while in other places, I've read that I have to first use a JSON deserializer and then bind the result. I've currently implemented my Controller Actions as ones that accept HTTP POST.

I am required to create a functionality like the "Top Tweets" of www.twitter.com,I started out thinking that it would be simple and just use a update panel and a timer with a gridview in the middle of it and just have it update every few seconds. but as you can see the problem here it updates the whole entire gridview and I just want to go ahead and add the new updates to the top of the page and not refresh the whole entire feed everyfew seconds.

Is there a jQuery technique to select all the page controls/divs with a non-zero scrollbar position?
I'm trying to solve a problem faced by many; essentially after a partial asp.net postback all the controls/divs that had a scrollbar with a non-zero value (ie: were scrolled down to some position) are reset to the zero (top of the scrollbar).
My approach is to have a jQuery script save all the scrollbar positions for all the controls/divs contained on a page and after the postback, restore all the scroll bar positions.Is it possible, can it even work? If it is, how do I use jQuery to select all the divs with scrollbars and then save those positions.

I'm fairly new to ASP.Net MVC 2 and understand the MVC pattern in itself. But my question is what's the best way to populate dropdownlists in the UI sticking to the MVC pattern. Should I be going through the controller? Every article I've seen to do this shows how to do it using javascript and jquery. I have a test application that I'm re-writing in MVC2 I have my dropdowns working with jquery basically calling a WCF Data Service that returns JSON which populates the dropdowns. Seems to me though that this is bypassing the controller and going straight to the model therefore strictly violating the MVC pattern. Or am I missing something obvious here. You thoughts or best practices would be greatly welcome here.

I am attempting to implement the suckerfish menu found on this tutorial. I get "object expected" error from the sample javascript:
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#nav-one li").hover(
function () { $("ul", this).fadeIn("fast"); },
function () { }
);
if (document.all) {
$("#nav-one li").hoverClass("sfHover");
}
});
I have imported the JQuery using:
<script type="text/javascript" src="~/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js"></script>
The JQuery import is in the page header. The javascript is just inside the <body>.
It would be nice if I could tell which object is having the issue instead of being pointed at this block of code. I'm new to JQuery and beginner level javascript.
UPDATE
The start of the menu:
<ul id="nav-one" class="nav">
<li>
<a href="#item1">item 1</a>
<ul>
(I think the #nav-one points to the id of the menu "nav-one").
And I believe this css covers the "sfHover" part:
#nav-one li.sfHover a {
background: #ccc;
color: #000;
} [code]....

I have noticed that in Google web reader (that lets us read RSS feeds on the web), the page does not seem to load ALL the feeds. Instead, as I scroll down, I can see more and more feeds (and the size of the scrollbar increases if you know what i mean)
I assume they do this by finding the position of the scrollbar and do an AJAX call. Is this correct? How would I do this in ASP.NET?

We have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses Entity Framework abstractions with Repository and UnitOfWork patterns. What I'm wondering is how others have implemented navigation of complex object graphs with these patterns. Let me give an example from one of our controllers:
[code]....
It's a registration process and pretty much everything hangs off the POCO class Person. In this case we're caching the person through the registration process. I've now started implementing the latter part of the registration process which requires access to data deeper in the object graph. Specifically DPA data which hangs off Legal inside Country.
The code above is just mapping out the model information into a simpler format for the ViewModel. My question is do you consider this fairly deep navigation of the graph good practice or would you abstract out the retrieval of the objects further down the graph into repositories?

Does anyone have a working pattern for converting a GET-POST-GET pattern to asny?
I'm encountering the following issues:
1. You cannot mix Sync and Async action methods SubmitForm(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), SubmitFormCompleted() ... (because the resolver gets all confused ... it doesn't use the HTTP verb to decide who to target. BTW: I think that's poor design, or a bug)
2. Renaming the get method name to something else eg: SubmitFormConfirmation(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), SubmitFormCompleted() would be very awkward if it works ... because you have to doctor the <form markup to specify an action name.
3. You cannot give them all async names SubmitFormAsync(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), submitFormCompleted(), because the call just keeps malfunctioning. It sometime even behaves as if you are requesting a delete of something.
Can someone give an insight from an actually working sample.

Now that the next version of ASP.NET MVC is being prototyped and previewed (ASP.NET MVC 3 Preview 1 came out a couple of weeks ago), I wonder if we should call the attention of the Core Dev team (S Hanselman, Phil Haack and all) to this "feature."there a easy/non tacky way of associating subdomains → areas?Something like:
[URL]Also, whats the best accepted design pattern in implementing PRG pattern in ASP.NET MVC? I guess it should also get some official loving in MVC 3.

I am using ASP.NET MVC and jquery. I would like to implement preview functionality to a form. i.e. I have a form with number of fields for example name, address etc.. Before the user submits the info, he/she can preview it as to how it will appear on the site. how I could implement this in a cleaner way? I have tried regenearting the html on click.. but it's very messy.

I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: [URL]. If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?

I need a Continuous integration tool that will support both .Net Unit tests and Javascript unit tests and perform the builds.It looks like my main options are CruiseControl.NET using JUnit and NUnit or Team City and JS Test Driver.
Are there any other options and which ones have you used or had good or bad experiences with.

I just released a new version of my web application on ASP.NET V4.0 (on IIS 7 Win2008 R2) For some reason, the application Restarts at (almost) every request. I cannot figure out what configuration (although I didn't change it) or code error may cause this problem. Mind this happens on a hosted server - so I have a somewhat limited ability to debug it.
