Security :: Using ASP Tools For Login And Create User / Login Tool Is Going To Get Userid And Password Info?

May 25, 2010

I've created a page to add users, using the CreateUserWizard, I use the Login Control to login.

I have setup the config file to use my SQL server, not express

<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I go to the create user page, add a user.

I can SEE the user on the database using Server Management Studio...

I go to signon and get "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."

I have not customized the login control in any way. (OR the createuserwizard)

HOW can I tell where the Login tool is going to get userid and password info?

How can I tell if it is not finding the user or the password does not match?

Security :: GoDaddy - The UserID/Password Is Working Fine - But The Profile Isn't?

Jan 29, 2010

I got the login to work fine- go to [URL]if you want to give it a try. Here is the thing. The profile functionality doesn't work. It draws from the same set of files, it used the same connection string as the users, it work on my local machine, but blows up on GoDaddy because it cannot find the file, and when it tries to create it. The file it uses for the profile, aspnet_Profiles, is on there along with the rest of the membership files. The connection string is not defined individually. Why is it finding the user files, but not the profile file.

Here are the files

aspnet_Applications
aspnet_Memberships
aspnet_Paths
aspnet_PersonalizationAllUsers
aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser
aspnet_Profile
aspnet_Roles
aspnet_SchemaVersions
aspnet_Users
aspnet_UserInRoles

Security :: Creating An Admin Tool To Reset Password Without Question / Answer?

Oct 29, 2010

I'm dealing with a scenario where a legitimate user doesn't have a clue about his password, secret question or the answer. So, I was trying to create an admin tool that would help me in situations like these where the admin should be able to type in username and reset the password without having to know/enter answer to secret question. I understand that I need to make some changes to the web.config for this to work. I thought I made all the changes but my ResetPassword() requests are still not working.

Here's my web.config settings for the provider.

Web Forms :: Make "UserId" Equal To The "logged-in User" In Vb Code Behind

Aug 25, 2010

I need to insert a declaration in the codebehind function below that will make the variable "UserId" equal to the "logged-in user". In what way do I need to change the code below (elsewhere in the project, I successfully make reference to basically the same code and make the UserId equal to logged-in user by using this handler expression inside an image control: ImageUrl ='<%# Eval("UserId","Image.aspx?UserId={0}")%>'...But in the case below, the function is not fired by this expression, but rather by CustomValidator).

Sub ValidateImage(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs)
If Request.QueryString("UserId") IsNot Nothing Then
' Get the connection string from Web.config.
Using conn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MyDatabaseConnectionString").ToString())
' Create a command object.
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand()
' Assign the connection to the command.
cmd.Connection = conn
' Appendy the parameter to the SqlCommand and set value.
cmd.Parameters.Add("@UserId", SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier).Value = Guid.Parse(Request.QueryString("UserId"))
' Set the command text
' SQL statement or the name of the stored procedure.
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT Avatar FROM aspnet_Membership WHERE UserId = @UserId AND Avatar IS NOT NULL"
' Set the command type
' CommandType.Text for ordinary SQL statements;
' CommandType.StoredProcedure for stored procedures.
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
' Open the connection.
conn.Open()
' Convert the returned result to a bytes array.
Dim bytes As Byte() = DirectCast(cmd.ExecuteScalar(), Byte())
If bytes IsNot Nothing Then
' Set the HTTP MIME type of the output stream.
Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"
' Write a string of Binary characters to the HTTP
' output stream.
Response.BinaryWrite(bytes)
' Send all currently buffered output to the client.
Response.End()
Else
args.IsValid = False

Architecture :: Showing Mathematical Formula Based Charts To End User?

Jun 3, 2010

We have one new project to implement. Let me explain briefly about this project. This project is related showing chart to end user on the basis of different mathematical calculated formulas.

End user has authority to change these formulas on the fly and on the basis of that changed formula we need to show the chart. So this is all central idea about the project. These charts which I mentioned above are very complicated and user friendly

So can any buddy tell me which is best suitable architecture for this and how can fit her to my scenario .I knows, three tier architecture and some other are there but I want know which is the best architectures that developed above idea in right way

User Is In Role "admin" But (Authorize (Roles="admin")) Won't Authenticate

Mar 15, 2011

I found a great answer on SO describing how to set up custom user roles, and I've done the same in my project. So in my Login service I have:

public ActionResult Login() {
// password authentication stuff omitted here
var roles = GetRoles(user.Type); // returns a string e.g. "admin,user"
var authTicket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(
1,
userName,
DateTime.Now,
DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(20), // expiry
false,
roles,
"/");
var cookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName,
FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(authTicket));
Response.Cookies.Add(cookie);
return new XmlResult(xmlDoc); // don't worry so much about this - returns XML as ActionResult
}
And in Global.asax.cs, I have (copied verbatim from the other answer):
protected void Application_AuthenticateRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e) {
var authCookie = Context.Request.Cookies[FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName];
if (authCookie != null) {
var authTicket = FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(authCookie.Value);
var roles = authTicket.UserData.Split(new Char[] { ',' });
var userPrincipal = new GenericPrincipal(new GenericIdentity(authTicket.Name), roles);
Context.User = userPrincipal;
}
}
Then, in my ServicesController class, I have:
[Authorize(Roles = "admin")]
//[Authorize]
public ActionResult DoAdminStuff() {
...
}

I login as a user with the "admin" role, and that works. Then I call /services/doadminstuff - and I get access denied, even though when I put a breakpoint in Global.asax.cs, I can see that my roles do include "admin". If I comment out the first Authorize attribute (with roles) and just use a plain vanilla Authorize, then I can access the service.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview-Calculate Value Based On Formula That Varies Dependent On Selected Code In Dropdownlist?

Jul 2, 2010

GridViewDetails uses templatefields. In edittemplate I put a button called "ButtonUpdateAdjustAmount" with OnClick="Update_AdjustAmount" in the EditItemTemplate for the "Amt to be Adj" column. There is also a textbox. My user's should be able to edit the textbox, but I also want the ability to click the button and the textbox populated with the correct calculated value. The formula varies based on the "code" column which is a dropdownlist called "DropListCode".

I am fairly new to asp.net, vb, etc...so forgive my code writing. Eventually I need to also put the same functionality on the insertrow for my gridview. But first wanted to get the edit one working. I am using templatefields for all columns and the FooterTemplate to perform the Insert New Detail Line.

I can get the functionality to work for the first data row and only if I take out the If code.SelectedValue = ... line and leave 1 static formula. However that isn't going to work. If DropListCode.SelectedValue is DNR then AdjAmt should be ((q_ordered - q_received) * cost). If DropListCode. SelectedValue is OV then AdjAmt should be (RKNumber * cost). If DropListCode.SelectedValue is NB the AdjAmt should be ((q_received - q_ordered) * cost). If DropListCode.SelectedValue is DAM then AdjAmt should be (RKNumber * cost)
