We use the LoginControl to authenticate our users. For this particular site, security isn't a HUGE concern but the Membership provider allowed us to customize the users menu and do some other handy things.
Lately, our Customer Service department has been complaining that there is something wrong, because many users are being "locked out". What I would like to do is capture the login and password (I know how to get the login) and log it to our SQL database. Is there a way to get the un-encypted password? I am pretty sure there isn't but thought someone might know a workaound (without using a custom control of something of that nature).
i need certain algorithem/formula or code where admin assign userid/password to user ,means multiple user get registered site but user id and password are assign by admin after registered . did not any thing on google yet !!
I am a newbie and using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition developing a website with some SQL database and a membership folder.
The membership folder security was set via Website/ASP.NET Configuration and with Permission Deny for Anonymous users, and a user id and password was created.
However when running the website and login with the created userid and password, it failed to log in with error message "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." I suspect that the system could not find the ASPNETDB.MDF even though it is in the App_Data folder.
I have separately developed another website with Membership and User Login by following the example in ASP.NET Walkthrough in Learn Web Devbelopment, and it works ok.
A question has been raised concerning password recovery revealing valid user ids. Stage 1 of the password recovery asks for a userid and when progressing to stage 2 will display an error message 'Invalid user id'. In theory this would allow valid user id'sto be identified.Is there a setting we are missing? Something that would allow the user id and question to be asked, then a message saying the 'User/Question combination is invalid'.
i am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new userregisters. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already existsfrom the create user wizard membership UserName and Password Textboxesis it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?
In the registration page of my project i want to check whether the enterd userid is available in database or not without sendig the whole page to server and i made userid as a primery key.

iam using validation controls for all the text boxes , when iam using my tab to enter the values it w,l give me alll error messege until i fill it.and when i reach email textbox and check availblity then i cant check untill i fill the password and retype password texboxes..i can only check the email availblity only when al the fields are valid.but i want to valid the emailid before i could enter password and retype password?

I'm quite new to Web Development. I'm creating a web site and it has a Registration Page where I managed to create the form. But when the user clicks on the 'CreateUser' button, how do I display a message on the form to show that the User is created. And also, at the moment, I don't know where the user details are being created. I wish to add the details to a Login Table in the SQL Database. How do I go about it?

I have a "Save" button in my asp.net (VB.Net 3.5) page. When clicked it saves data in the database and redirects to another page. Before it redirects, I have to show a popup messagebox informing the clients that the data has been saved. The popup box will have a "OK" button. Only when this button is clicked, the page should be redirected to another page.
If I used Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript to register a javascript to show an alert message, it is never shown and page is redirected straightaway. Similar behavior happens when I tried to show a mesage box by creating it through a server control as described

I am creating a newsletter and I have got a problem. I have 2 text boxes. In one textbox the user types his name and in the second one the user enter his email address. When the user press the button if the email exists I want to show a message box him that the email address already exists. If the email does not exist I want to insert his email on the database and show a message that he has been inserted in the newsletter list. Just to let you know guys I am using C#
I got the login to work fine- go to [URL]if you want to give it a try. Here is the thing. The profile functionality doesn't work. It draws from the same set of files, it used the same connection string as the users, it work on my local machine, but blows up on GoDaddy because it cannot find the file, and when it tries to create it. The file it uses for the profile, aspnet_Profiles, is on there along with the rest of the membership files. The connection string is not defined individually. Why is it finding the user files, but not the profile file.
I have a weird thing happening. I have two identical databases installed on one virtual machine but under two different instances of SQLServer. For some reason, periodically when saving from one it will save to the other instead. Using debug, I have verified that the connection string is correct and when the item saves, it still saves to the wrong database.I use session variable, and am of the belief that it might have something to do with it...and t hat when I go from one to the other it is still getting the connection string form the other for some reason.To make sure that it isn't a problem, I make sure that I completely close out one database before opening the other in a new IE window.I assume that when I completely close out an internet explorer window that it abandons all session states. Is that true?
