I have alot of code in the page load event as below.
Is it best practice to use (!NotPostBack) and wrap the code in this block or does it depend on the methods etc. I also have code which populates ajax slideshow as well which gets images from database.

1. I need to load a user control on link click event of a link button during postback of aspx page.
2. On button click event of a save button on that aspx page, I need to read the selected values from that user control on further postback.
If I write the loadcontrol code in link_click event, the control is not recognized at all in the button_click event. When I shift it to page_init and execute only during not postback, the user control loads with default values.
How do I create a new event in a base page class that fires after all derived pages have fired their load events but before any controls fire their load events.
The following code fires the event before the derived page's load event. I want it to fire the event after the derived page's load event but before all control load events:

I have a update panel on the ASPX page,When thepage loads the content in the update panel shouldnot load ( Update panel should show the Updatepanel progress control) but after page load update panel contents should load . How do i get this efect.
View 3 RepliesI have several divs on an asp page. All of my divs are runat="server". On the initial load of my page I set all the divs visible property to false because I dont want them to appear on the first show. Then, I have a drop down list raising postback events.
On the selected index changed event I am setting the visible property of my divs to true to make them appear on the page. However this does not work.
I discovered that, on the initial load non of my divs are added to the page's html content. So, on a postback event non existing divs can not be made to appear. If all the divs would set to visible = true on the initial load, postback event would work just expected.
Could any one tell me a way to hide divs on the initial load and make them appear on a postback event?
I am using a third party gateway. The third party gateway does not support query-string , so i will need to post the form to pass the values to the given URL and another thing is that they don't expose the web-services so we need to use their page and that means we need to host it in an iframe in asp.net
so what i did is that i have hidden fields that will be used as parameters as depicted below

Now the purpose of this , is to load the iframe after the page load event of the asp.net gets fired.
Now my problem here is that when the iframe loads , it does not pass the parameters to the url that is being set in the iframe.
I have attached the example, project. (2kb)
When you run the project you will notice when the iframe loads there is an Error
"NO VCS ID"
now this means that the parameters were not passed when the Iframe loads , i can understand because it seems like iframe does not do a full form post. so to demonstrate what i want, click the proceed button and you will notice it will give you a page with no errors and it will be a page where credit card details are required , i want to iframe to load that the first time.

Is there a technical reason for the existence of Page.PreLoad or is this just convenience to have a place where you can neatly place code that always have to be executed before the Load code? Is there a difference between adding code in the PreLoad event handler and adding code at the top of the Load event handler? And what would be a typical scenario where you use PreLoad?

The new page has a similar (but not the same) looking usercontrol on the left and different content on the right. How can I do this? View 2 RepliesI'm creating user controls that i will put into an update panel and make them visible only when required using triggers. Once visible it will float in a dialog box so it has a close button which will just hide the control on client side.
The controls have multiple post back states, like a wizard, i'm using a multi view control to accomplish that. My problem is that once the user is at step number two in the control, if the user closes the dialog, than opens the dialog again, (note that the control is made visible on the server and reloaded by updating the updatepanel) the second step will still be displayed. The reason is . because whenever there is a postback the control will load its state using the viewstate, even if EnableViewState is false it will still load it using the LoadControlState method. so my quesion is how can i force a user control to load fresh with its default values without any postback data.

In my web form, i have 2 drop downlist controls. eg. dropdown1 and dropdown2. I will change the dropdownlist1 item, consequently selectedindexchanged event fires and reloads the dropdownlist2 items. And i have another button also in order to get the result based on the dropdown1 and dropdown2. Lets say for example, i have a list of countries in dropdown1 and a list of states in dropdown2. I selected "India" in dropdown1 and correspondingly "Tamilnadu" in dropdown2. And then click a button which calls the dataset based on dropdown1 and dropdown2. The problem i face here is, whenever i click on the button to load the dataset, dropdown1 value remains the same as the dataset is not called again, whereas the dropdown2 value changes to the first one as it gets called automatically during postback. For your information, I have loaded both the lists in the page load using (!IsPostback) property.

I'm working on a wizard-like set of page, and I'm relying on cross page postbacks to navigate between them.
I need to be able to trigger the Load event on the previous page in order to save the form data for the page.
I've been told that for situations of this sort all I had to do is access the PreviousPage property in the destination page and this would trigger the load event of the previous page but for some reason this doesn't seem to be working.
Is there anything else I can do to explicitly trigger the load event on the previouspage if the PreviousPage property is not null?
now a days i'm working on my project. In project there is a aspx page which is binded with a masterpage, the problem is that when i run the project in debugging mode i found that page load event of a page is firing two times instead of one along with masterpage page's page load event. This is crreating a problem in filling a grid. I searched through the internet for this problem some says that it may happen if u have any image whose src="" or due to some bad HTML's on page .But i've gone through the page it does not contain any image whose src="" .

I have a dynamically generated image placed inside an update panel. The image is generated with the Generated Image control (see here for more:
[URL]. This is basically a specialised httphandler linked to a normal asp:image, where the image src is generated dynamically. In my case, I use some GDI+ to dynamically generate the image, based on values from a database query.
The problem I have is that the image does not update when the update panel updates. The image does, however, update if I manually reload/refresh the page (i.e., hit F5). Why is is that some code fires during an update panel update, and not other code? And, more importantly, what can I do to make sure the image generation code does fire during the updatepanel update?

View 4 RepliesI have several usercontrols which are loaded based on business logic.However, all of them have webcontrols whose selected/entered value needs to be accessible in parent page on an event.Since there can be any combination of UserControls, I do not want to load all the UserControls in the Parent Page, since they are heavy.
I would like to load only those controls which are supposed to appear on the page, yet access the value from the usercontrol which caused the postback. (I would rather not access using Request.Form) (ViewState is open, but unsuccessful to store value in parent page's viewstate in onClick)Here is a sample scenario
