MVC :: Cannot Receive / Process POST Data Successfully

Jun 5, 2010

I have the following ViewModel:

[Code]....

This goes into a view like this:

[Code]....

Which as a result generates this:

[Code]....

Now, I'm trying to receive this data in a method so I can update stuff, like this:

[Code]....

But the above is not working. I've tried using [Bind(Prefix="user")] with no success. Before using this setup, I had all the user's properties directly in the ViewModel and the above method worked like charm.

What can I do to be able to process my POST request? I do not want to change my ViewData structure. I presume the answer to the question is not to difficult and lies only in adding something or changing some properties.

State Management :: Build Up The Order Query From The Selections Made And Store It In Db?

Jan 11, 2011

I am building an invoice system for a client and I am having trouble with the web forms related to the INSERT new order query.Basically I want to build up the order query from the selections made and then store it all in db at the end.

I don't want to use temporary db storage because it's a wasted trip to the server, I don't want to use session state because it's not data about the user I'm storing.... Unless I'm wrong, from what I've read I think query string is my best method since the data is not sensitive, it will just be primary keys and the like.

On the first form, the user will select the customer id from a datagrid displaying all customers. The next form allows them to choose the product from a datagrid showing all products and so on.... How do I pass this information across several pages?

My hope is at the end I will be able to take all the values and insert them into the corresponding tables to make up the customer order.

Send Large Amounts Of Email Via C# Web Page?

Dec 6, 2010

I have part of a project whereby I need to send 1 to up to 2000 emails from a webpage. One open source bug tracker used a Thread to send emails but it was riddled with bugs. So just want to know if anyone has any ideas of how I can create a procedure that send up to 2000 emails a go?

I was told by one of my colleagues to leave it as one process (normal routine sending one email at a time) as it won't take long to process all the emails anyway. Doesn't seem right and I want to use threading... maybe I like complex routines?

[Extra]
I have something like:
foreach(string email in emailAddresses)
{
MailMessage mailMessage = new MailMessage();
mailMessage.To.Add(...)
...
SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient();
client.Send(mailMessage);
}

Storing Large Amounts Of Session Data?

Feb 16, 2010

Im in the process of developing a web application, and I wish to store a reasonable amount of data for each user.

This data will be accessed each time the page is refreshed.

The only 2 options that I have come up with is:

* Session Data
* Storing the information in a text file with random file names for each person
* Database

The first one I do not really want to use as it would bog down the server - the second one is cumbersome

Is there any other options?

If possible i was thinking using the database, but am hesitant because of the amount of times the accessing of the database would need (every refresh for every user)

I dont want to store the information inside the viewstate (i dont know what MS was thinking when they thought of viewstate)

The remote server returned an unexpected response: (400) Bad Request

Everything I searched on the web says I need to increase things like maxBufferSize in my Web.Config File, but like so many others, it has produced no results. This seems like it should be a simple fix.

C# - PayPal - ExpressCheckout And Recurring Payments

I'm trying to get PayPal's ExpressCheckout working with Recurring Payments. I've got the first two stages (the calls to SetExpressCheckout and GetExpressCheckoutDetails) but CreateRecurringPaymentsProfile fails with the error below. I'm using a modified version of Paypal's sample code, but I suspect I'm (not) setting an encoder value. Anyone used this before? The error:

Forms Data Controls :: Editing Amounts In Details View?

Jan 18, 2010

I am using access database with asp.net C# page.

I have multiple amounts that I need to display and edit. I am trying to understand the best way to do this..

In MSAccess:

Should I define them as currency or number?

ASP.net

if I use formatting for the field as {0:C}, it works fine in View mode. However, i am unable to update the field in Edit mode for an amount with decimal places. In Edit mode, I can only enter whole numbers(ex: I can enter 123, but not 1.23).

If I set the ApplyFormattingInEditMode=True, I am unable to save data entered in any format($123.23, 123, 123.23, all of them cause the error).

The error I am getting is "Input string is not in a correct format".

Web Forms :: PayPal Web Payments Standard Submission?

Feb 21, 2011

I have PayPal Web Payment standard successfully integrated in an ecomerce solution I'm developing. My problem is this, I want to store details of the order being placed before it is sent to PayPal but only if it is sent and not if the just fill in everything in the shopping cart and then leave the page. There are 3 ways I can think of how this might be acheived but I'm not sure how to implement them.

1. Put some code in the page_unload that stores the data fi the page the browser is being transferred to is the paypal site. However I don't a way to determine what the next page is going to be.

2. Submit the the information to PayPal from the code behind. I'm sure this should be possible but I don't know how to do it and haven't managed to find a good articles on it.

3. Assign a javascript function to the onclick on PayPal submit button that calls a servside function using PageMethods. However this just seems like a bit a bodge introduces a whole array of other problems.

Configuration :: Process.start (System.Diagnostics.Process) - Execute A Batch File

Sep 7, 2010

I've written a aspx.net(C#) page that after the user has done what they do on the page they hit a Submit button. The Submit button

1) takes the work the users was producing on the page and writes it to a file.
2) attempts to execute a batch file.

The call to the batch file is executed via:

protected void Execute123EDI()
{
try
{
string File = @"c:80sAdminSendV80s.bat";
lblCancelled.Text = lblCancelled.Text + File;
Process proc = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
proc.StartInfo.LoadUserProfile = false;
proc.StartInfo.UserName = "administrator";
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
System.Security.SecureString secPass = new System.Security.SecureString();
string paswd = "123abc";
for (int i = 0; i < paswd.Length; i++)
{
secPass.AppendChar(paswd[i]);
}
proc.StartInfo.Password = secPass;
proc.StartInfo.FileName = File;
proc.Start();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"c:80sAdminSendV80sOutput.log", FileMode.Append);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(fs);
sw.Write(proc.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd());
proc.WaitForExit();
sw.Close();
proc.Close();
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
lblDebug.Text = lblDebug.Text + ex.Message + "<br/>";
}

If I watch the processes tab in Task Manager on the web server I see "cmd.exe" under the context of 'administrator' but it just hangs. For test purposes c:SendV80s.bat: copy c: oot.ini c:zzz.txt

If I logon onto the webserver's console and execute SendV80s.bat it works and exits without issue. But when I execute the same batch file via the Submit button it gets stuck executing in Task Manager/Process. I believe this has something to do with the fact that cmd is not running in a full environment/desktop context. I just noticed this on the actual console of the webserver (not in my RDP console but console 0 instead)

A pop-up box stating: CMD.exe Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application. And when I click on the OK button my ASPX page's WaitForExit is satisfied and the continues processing normally.

Long Running HTTP Process - How To Put In Separate Process

Jul 21, 2010

I know that similar questions have been asked all over the place, but I'm having trouble finding one that relates directly to what I'm after.

I have a website where a user uploads a data file, then that file is transformed and imported into SQL. The file could be up to 50mb in size, and some times this process can take 30 minutes or sometimes even longer.

I realise I need to palm off the actual work to another process, and poll that process on the web page. I'm wondering what the best approach would be though? Being a web developer by trade, I'm finding all this new Windows Service stuff a bit confusing, and I just wanted somewhere to start.

So:

Can I do / should I being doing this with a windows service? if so, how?

Should I use WCF? If this runs under IIS, will I have problems with aspnet_wp.exe recycling and timing out my process?

clarifications

The data is imported into sql, there's no file distribution taking place.

If there is a failure, it absolutely MUST be reported to the user. The web page will poll every, lets say, 5 seconds, from the time the async task begins, to get the 'status' of the import. Once it's finished another response will tell the page to stop polling for status updates.

queries on final decision

ok, so as I thought, it seems that a windows service is the best idea. So as to HOW to get it to work, it seems the 'put the file there and wait for the service to pick it up' idea is the generally accepted way, is there a way I can start a process run by the service, without it having to constantly be checking a database table / folder? As I said earlier, I don't have any experience with Windows Services - I wondered if I put a public method in the service, can I call it somehow?
