Programatically Change The HeaderText Of Gridview Columns In A Nested Gridview?
Jul 31, 2010
I have a gridview and I would like to be able to programatically change the HeaderText of it's columns (probably in the DataBinding event). I know this can normally be achieve with something like this:
myGrid.Columns[0].HeaderText = "My Header Text";
However, the gridview in question is actually nested within another gridview (via template column). So I can't access it directly. I'm trying to use the FindControl method to access it, but so far that isn't working.

I need to create a grid where the users can see all the memberships, and have a line of checkboxes for each existing role, and be able to check/uncheck roles to allow access authority.
I managed to build a datatable that adds columns and displays them properly, but I have not been able to programatically add columns to the grid based on whatever roles are stored in the system.
I can display the users and their roles by just specifying AutoGenerateColumns="true" when I do that, the checkboxes are grayed out, and the users do not want to have to click a button to open them up.
Here is what I can't figure out.
How do I programatically add columns to the GridView? I have some code in Pageload, but it doesn't work, so it is commented out?How do I turn on all the rows for the entire GridView to edit mode? How do I access the column name for the role they just checked so that I know what to add with the ystem.Web.Security.Roles.AddUserToRole(UserName, Role)?

I am using Templates in GridView, but now I have to change the "HeaderText" of each column from code behind. I don't have <HeaderTemplate> so therefore I cannot use FndControl() in header row.
Is there a way to change the HeaderText of each colum without using <HeaderTemplate>
Here are the templates of the GridView which I am using

Do any of you know why this won't work?
<asp:BoundField HeaderText='<%=Lang.GetString("ManCan_Descripcion")%>' DataField="OcdObs" />
It's like the server is ignoring the <%%> tags, the page gets rendered like this:
<th scope="col"><%=Lang.GetString("ManCan_Descripcion")%></th>

I'm attempting to create a 3-level deep nested gridview. I get the data in the right columns on the right rows, my problem is the columns aren't aligning.
My parent is OK, but it seen to break down when I add the second and third gridview. I've used the method of:
1. creating a table after my templatefield/Itemtemplate
2. then placing a .tr. and .td. before the first child gridview. But as I see the problem, if the child gridview is a .td. how do I add another .td. to that row?
I've attached a

gvOff.DataSource = o.ViewData(dCity.SelectedValue);
gvOff.DataBind();
gvOff.Columns[0].HeaderText = "ZZZZZZZZ";
gvOff.Columns[1].HeaderText = "YYYYYYYY";
gvOff.Columns[2].HeaderText = "XXXXXXXX";
Header count is correct.
AutoGenerateColumns: Flase/True ( i tried both)
If i remove the gvOff.Columns[index].HeaderText portions, GridView works fine, but when i put the gvOff.Columns[0].HeaderText, i get the exceptional error.
, i couldn't solve it. If you need further info, inform me.
EDITED:
Hold on! I commented the HeaderText portion and tested
int i = gvOffer.Columns.Count;
I found count is 0 eventhough the columns print out with DataBind()... Why?
NOTE: AutoColumn in this case is set to true. I guess i will have to edit the column
names from DataTable.

I'm trying to create a nested gridview, but I'm stuck at the editing/deleting part of the nested gridview. (Below is my code).The nested gridviews are filling out nice, I've set the DeleteParameter in the SQLDataSource, but I'm still getting this error when trying to delete a criteria: 'The Gridview 'gvCriteria' fired event RowDeleting which wasn't handled.'I've tried to create a method 'gvCriteria_RowDeleting', but that didn't seem to work out.Someone who can give me a piece of advice? Would it be possible to fill the gridview without using gvDomain_rowDataBound? Dries

In Nested Grid, we get a '+' sign. The problem is that '+' sign appears all times, even if there are no child records for that row. 1. Can we enable/disable OR Hide/Unhide '+' sign. depending on if child rows exits.2. OR alteast we can put some bgcolor indicating to user that this record do have child rows. Without any indicator user may feel quite annoying to click on '+' sign and nothing happens.

I have a gridview that loads with a new datasource on button click event. On the gridview (which is located in a table columm incidentally) are 2 columns, a descriptor and a checkbox. The problem is that after postback, the column widths change, the checkbox column expands and the other column contracts. Is there a way to keep the gridview column sizes the same after postback?

I cannot figure out why HeaderText or validation controls always fallback to default culture - even though rest of the controls are in correct culture.
I have a GridView with HeaderText specified in this way>
<asp:BoundField DataField="totalSales" HeaderText="<%$ Resources:Strings,TotalSales %>" />
In the same way I have validation controls and they can't be localized.
Only this syntax does work: <%= Resources.Strings.Payments %>
I set different culture in Master page using this statement in Page_Init
Me.Page.Culture = "pl-PL"
Me.Page.UICulture = "pl-PL"

Can I do something like this:
<asp:BoundField DataField="Field1"
HeaderText='<% IF(Eval("Field2").ToString().SubString(3,4).Equals("Text3"),"Text1","Text2") %>'
SortExpression="Field1" />
With the goal of having the header of Field1 be Text1 when the 4th-7th characters of Field2 = Text3 and Text2 otherwise?
I tried it and it just put "'<%IF(Eval("Field2").ToString().SubString(3,4).Equals("Text3"),"Text1","Text2") %>'" as the actual header string!

I have an gridview with 3 columns. As default I entered for each columnns an headertext, but depending on an language parameter in the data the headertext is changed on page_load with a SetLabels function.
Recently I added an templatefield textbox with an autopostback=true and an ontextchanged event :
When a user changes the text in the textbox all events are executed properly BUT my headertext is set back to the default value (from the .ascx) even tho page_load event is executing properly WITH the SETLABELS function.
