Service Reference - Unable To Access The Methods - Error 116
Dec 8, 2010
i have added a service reference but i am unable to access the methods, there is a method call "GetContactById" which i can see when i add the service but i am unsure how i can get to this in code. i have tried creating an instance first but i get this error
Error 116 Core.omnetService.OMWCoreSoap' is a 'type', which is not valid in the given context
omnetService.OMWCoreSoap test = omnetService.OMWCoreSoap();
test.GetContactById(strKey, UserId.ToString());
I have a web site project using the .NET 2.0 Framework that I am working on in Visual Studio 2008. I am using a third-party DLL in my project. I have added a reference to the DLL in my project and I can use everything as expected, including a number of extension methods for certain objects. Intellisense sees these extension methods, and I am able to make use of them and I can build my project on my local machine without any errors.
However, when running my website on a production server, I get a Compilation Error saying that the extension method I am trying to use could not be found. I can use everything else in the DLL besides the extension methods on the production server.
This is my first exposure to extension methods and understand what they are, but I can't seem to figure out why I can't make use of these methods outside of my local machine.
I have a web service which is accessible from the browser. When I try to access the same web service which is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2, from an excel Macro, it says
Run-time error '-2147220991' (80040201)':
Server was unable to process request --> The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.
The excel macro works fine when I try to access the same web service on the other server(Windows 2000 Server)
The web service is developed using .Net 2.0.
I'm posting the URL for the web service for your reference.
URLs which are not being accessible from Excel.

Both Web services and Excel macros are old applications which have been running fine for years. The only change is that the application is being migrated to a new server(MCDEAGDWEB202) which has Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008.
The Old server(MCDEAGLWEB005B) has Windows Server 2000 and SQL Server 2000.
I have added a web service as a reference to a windows application using "AddWebRefrence" option. And I am unable to access the funtions in the web service but instead i get the functionnames followed by the completedeventargs and completedeventhandler.
What am I doing wrong and how can i access the funtions in the web service.
I added a service reference via the add service reference method. I can see all of its services in the intellisense but when I run the project and it executes the line where I instantiate the service : MyProjectName.ServiceReferenceName.IServiceReferenceClient client = new MyProjectName.ServiceReferenceName.ServiceReferenceClient;it throws this error:Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'ServiceReferenceName.IServiceReferenceClient' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.
when svc.getLookupList(reqobj) will call i get following error.
"There was no endpoint listening at http://rets.newjerseymls.com/rets that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action."
After moving application to shared hosting I cannot add service reference to .asmx and WCF services that used to work on dedicated server.The error in adding WCF service reference is:

we have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion. The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4. As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place. To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there. Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight. So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files. I changed the name space to be the same.
So I have the following assembly / namespaces
Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)
Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)
With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects. Really it's a beautiful thing.
Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files. These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are classes that have properties that can set to the ID of the record in the database you want to get, a search string for filtering by last name, first name, etc. (This is in the style of the Web Service Factory if you're familiar with that.)
Finally I turned the whole message into a generic using a base class called EntityRequest

I corrected this error and everything went well for a week until I had to make my first change to the service interface. I added a new operation contract, clicked the handy Update Service Reference on my client and boom.
3) Finally adding the reference of service contract project in a Hosting project (Console Application) with complete configurations.
I am adding one more windows app project as a client.When i am trying to add the service reference using the address "http://localhost:8000/Tasks", VS 2008 displays the below error.
There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:8000/Tasks'.

If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.
I have a button on a page with a Repeater and an ObjectDataSource. To give credit where credit is due, the Repeater's paging functionality is courtesy of ScottGu. (However, I'm using ASP.NET 4.0 and SQL Server 2008, as opposed to ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005.)
Anyway, in the button's click event, I need to access the Text property of a Label that's inside the Repeater because it's used as an input parameter in a stored procedure. I'm getting a NullReferenceException when trying to access the Label's Text property. I have researched this error and have tried a few different solutions (involving FindControl and the Repeater's ItemDataBound event), but I haven't been able to get it to work. The code is below.
We have created a new cname for our subdomain website. The new website is working properly with cname. We do have .net application inside the webiste which is not working with cname. For eg,1. http://servername/_folder1/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website without cname)2. http://NewDomian.xxxx/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website with cname)The first case is working perfectly, but when I access the second url, I got the following error.Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. I have this very simple test program that illustrates my question. I am not sure why this returns a null for the 'customer' variable. I would have thought that since the method MyTestMethod created a new Customer object that the value of 'customer' wouldnot be a null.
I could really use some help on this one. I've been fighting it now for several days and we are supposed to start testing early next week.I am subscribing to 4 web services all hosted by the same company. The integration with 1, 2 and 3 all went fine, but on the fourth I keep getting the very unhelpful error:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException = {"Server was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object."} [code]...
I am getting "Access Denied" error when I am trying to write a file on my hard drive (C:/.... xmls/test.xml) from a webservice which is also on my local machine.
The folder structure is like this
AdminApp (Web Folder on C drive) - WebServices Folder - TestService.asmx -Xmls Folder - Test.xml
I tried following settings in IIS in my efforts to resolve the issue:
- Set anonynmous access checked with my account name and password under "Account Used for anonymous access" alongwith integrated windows authentication checked. I am a admin on my machine.
- Disabled anonymous access with only integrated windows authentication checked. I have identity impersonate = true set in my web.config.
I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:
public String SfTest() { return "SF Test"; }
No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:
public List<String> GetTest() { List<String> list = new List<string>(); String a = "a"; list.Add(a); String b = "b"; list.Add(b); return list; }
I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.
we have a situation where we need to host two certificates on the same server and because we can't have two different certificates on the same server running off the same port we have assigned one certificate run through another port, which is 4443.
So the URL to our web app is now....
[URL]
If I punch this into a web browser I can access it fine, however, if I create a web reference using this URL in Visual Studio (2005) it can create the web reference fine and it builds ok. But whenever I call a web method on this service instance I get a HTTP 404 page not found Exception.
Is there any properties I need to set on the web service object to get this to work? I'm confused as to why it's not working.
i developed a simple web application. A label and a button. On click of Button, the label will display Hello World.
When I deploy this web application on my web server and access the URL, I get this error message.
The current identity (NT Authority/Network Service) does not have write access to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files
I have tried the following -
Navigate to C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 and typed the following command -
aspnet_regiis -ga "NT AuthorityNetwork Service"
After that also, it did not work.
We checked the permissions of the folder Temporary ASP.NET Files and for the Network Service user, we checked the Security Permissions and it has all the permissions as required.
I'm currently trying to work out the best way to build this web application, which will then be intergrated on other systems, such as WinForms, Intranets etc.
We hope to include the usual layers i.e. DAL, BLL, BOL and UI but I have been experimenting with Entity Framework 4 and WCF Data Services and managed to get something in place where I was using WCF as a gateway to EF4.
i.e. Adding a Service Reference to my project and then using the EF4 context and writing LINQ queries against the DB
e.g.[Code]....
Now with the current setup I would still need to write a DAL Class Library, that interacts with the Data Service, because as I said WCF Data Services only seems to be a gateway, I can't see where to put the code (above) in the Data Service and then how I could these methods.
My questions are: 1. How do I develop a WCF Data Service in such a way to allow this behaviour - I know how I could do it using ASMX web service, something like [Code]....
2. If I am to use WCF Data Services, how is serialization handled (if at all) - again I know how to do something in ASMX web services
3. Again, If I am to use WCF, how do I add Security and only allow my applications to access the web service - for obvious reasons
4. Would it be possible / logical to also include the Business Logic Layer into the web service?
How to create an instance of web service without adding web service reference? How to identify the server address/name where the web service is hosted from C# code?
<Application architecture>I'm developing ASP.NET Web Application by Visual Studio 2008.(.Net Framework Version = 2.0)I put followin two projetcs in the solution.a. Class library which implements all the buisiness logic for application. (I'll call it "ClassLib" in the followin sentence)b. ASP.NET Web applicatoin which presents UI.(I'll call it "WebApp")ClassLib uses Web Service which located on other server. So, I set web reference in it. Method for url settings for this web reference is "Dynamic".
