I am trying to display reporting service elements in a web page as little 'widget' like elements, where when you click on one of the elements it takes you to the reporting services page that holds all of the data.
This works on my machine, and when run on two other machines, however, it is not working on the development server or another developer's machine.
It works in dev in Google chrome, but not in IE 7 or 8. The images/links work if you right click on them and select "open link", but they are not click-able as links, which pisses the business unit off.
I would really appreciate some help on this. Here is the information pertinent to what I am trying to do. URLs and such changed for obvious purposes.
.NET 3.5
= IIS 7
This is the ASPX element as added on the page.
<div style="width: 411px; float: left;">
<a href="RenderReport.aspx/myreport.pdf" style="text-decoration: none;">
<rsweb:ReportViewer ID="rptVwOriginatedFallout" runat="server" Font-Names="Verdana"
Font-Size="8pt" InteractiveDeviceInfos="(Collection)" ProcessingMode="Remote"
WaitMessageFont-Names="Verdana" WaitMessageFont-Size="14pt" ShowToolBar="False"
Height="260px" SizeToReportContent="True" BorderStyle="None">
<ServerReport ReportPath="/MyReport" ReportServerUrl="http://reportingserver/" />
</rsweb:ReportViewer>
</a>
</div>
At the top of the page I have:
<%@ Register Assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
Namespace="Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms" TagPrefix="rsweb" %>
In the web.config under assemblies I have:
<add assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B03F5F7F11D50A3A"/>
<add assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B03F5F7F11D50A3A"/>
Under the httpHandlers I have:
<add path="Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd" verb="*" type = "Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler, Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" validate="false" />
I have tried placing the appropriate information under and running it in Integrated mode as well on the server, but that did not work either.

This is really weird I am really stuck on this issue. Now the Environment is WIN2K3 Server is my web server Database is SQL 2008 is in the domain itself I have deployed the application which was using the SSO from the parent Share Point Site and was having forms authentication Now the Users to access the application can be outside domain /inside domain so we have logic to get the internal employee or external But the Problem starts when we have got the request to have the application ready for Internal Users like a Intranet application and we need to have the windows authetication in place Now the problem was with WINDOWS authentication I am not able to get to the HTTP Handlers I have in my code thats really wierd as all was working well having the forms auth. I have changed the following things to make it windows auth. Changed the AUthentication in WEB.Config Unchecked the Anynomous user from Directory Security in IIS.
My Problem is ALL application works well except when I tried to call http_handler It is giving me 404 0 2 in IIS logs page not found when I tried to say window.location = "myhandler.myextension?id=285dc559-8293-44f3-a018-4e7024c82e5b" Gives me Page not found error.

I have an ASP .NET 2.0 (4.0 is an option) page that I've embedded the Windows Media Player to using OBJECT tags.
The player is connecting to a Windows Media Services publishing point on the Web server. This is on a 2008 server.
Everything works great, see it here: [URL]
If I understand correctly, the information the player is showing in its status bar comes from the ID3 tags of the current track. Continuing on this line of thought, the ID3 information must be coming to the player from the media server. Correct?
What I want to do is collect and use the information about the track that's current being played. I'd like to be able to create a custom display for the current track information. I'd also like to put a custom value in the track information to look up additional information about the artist/track from a database.

What is the right approach when users (authenticated domain admins) should be able to start batch jobs (usually exe files) from an IIS (7.x) aspx (c#) page? This is an intranet site. The batch jobs have to run on the web server as Domain Admins. The website pool is executed by network service or some similar restricted account in AD.
Approaches I can think of (and their disadvantages):
1. Start exe file with System.Diagnostics.Process.Start with another account. This feature is disabled in IIS 7.x, how do I allow it?
2. Create a sheduled task and call scheduled task-api. This unmanaged dll is giving VS compiler warnings because it's unsafe to call from managed code.
3. I suppose there's a better approach, because the previous suggestions doesn't appear safe or robust.

I have a fairly complex business application written in ASP.NET that is deployed on a hosted server. The site uses Forms Authentication, and there are about a dozen different roles defined. Employees and customers are both users of the application.
Now I have the requirement to develop a Windows Mobile client for the application that allows a very specialized set of tasks to be performed from a device, as opposed to a browser on a laptop. The client wants to increase productivity with this measure. Only employees will use this application.
I feel that it would make sense to re-use the security infrastructure that is already in place. The client does not need offline capability.
My thought is to deploy a set of web services to a folder of the existing site that only the new role "web service" has access to, and to use Forms Authentication (from a Windows Mobile 5/.Net 3.5 client).
I did see this question and I am aware of the limitations that Forms Authentication poses. Since security is not my primary motivator (I use SSL and can restrict access by IP address), but rather using existing user accounts and roles, my decision tree is somewhat different as well.

Recently I had a weird problem while trying to install SQL Server Reporting Service in my local PC. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and I wanted to configure SSRS in my PC. During the installation, the setup wizard listed all the services that we want to install and I found that only Reporting Server checkbox option was disabled and I wondered why??? I thought it may be becuase of some installation problem and tried again and its useless... I googled lot of sites for 3 days and finally found that due to some IIS issues, it is not possible to install Reporting Server in Vista Home Premium version. Reporting Server needs some specific IIS features to be installed in the machine.
But unfortunately those features are not available for Home Premium users which in term restricts users not to install reporting server in our PCs... Also, Microsoft has accepted it as an issue and its not possible to get it install in Home Premium...just wanted to share and might be useful for someone like me.

I am having problems getting the security.aspx to load up on my primary development computer which is using Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows IE 8. Clicking on the ASP.NET Configuration icon from the IDE in the Solution Explorer within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition loads up default.aspx with no problem. But when I click on the "Security" hyperlink to access "security.aspx" I get a message along the lines of "The configured SQL data source provider is not properly configured". It goes on to state a list of potential reasons for this problem. One that includes not having the proper credentials or permissions. Im almost 100% sure it has something to do with permissions because I can't even get to the "security.aspx" page from opening a new empty project. I have recently installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition on my laptop which is running Vista with all latest updates and this issue does "not" exists. I can click the "ASP.NET" icon, load up "default.aspx" and click "Security" and it loads the page with absolutely no issues.
I have discovered a weird workaround but I don't like having to do this. If I add the following lines to my "web.config" file from any given project I can get to the "security.aspx" page without getting any SQL messages about improper configuration or permissions.
<<remove "LocalSqlServer">
<add
name="LocalSqlServer"
connectionString="data
source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
Basically, what I have to do to get to the security page to load without error is add a remove statement and then I just cut'n'paste almost the exact same connectionString from machine.config in the Microsoft.netFrameWorkV2.0.5027config directory. This does away with the "Improperly configured SQL datasource message" and gets me a new error message along the lines of "Could not create a SQL instance". My memory is fuzzy on exact error messages since Im not at development computer right now. However, when I change the User Instance attribute from true to false, then I have success at last.

I am writing an internal web app for a company who wont to use their existing Active Directory Logins (rather than a seperate SQL Database User Login Table).
To do this I have done the following
web.config
<authentication mode="Windows">
<identity impersonate="true"/>
<authorization>
<deny users="?"/>
<!-- Allow Public Users to Access -->
<allow users="*"/>
</authorization>
<roleManager enabled="true"
defaultProvider="AspNetWindowsTokenRoleProvider"/>
End
This seems to work on my localhost but I have a couple of questions for you guys.
1) How does this process know which active directory to authenticate against? I know in code you can do
LdapAuthentication adAuth = new LdapAuthentication("LDAP://Server");
But there seems to be no way to do this in the web.config (I'm guessing it will just use the active directory on current machine it's running on?). Is there away to specify which active directory I'd like it to authenticate against?
2) If a user tries to access this remotely (i.e. not on their native windows account) what will happen, will it just default to a login form or just throw a "Permission Denied" error?
