View 5 RepliesI have a framework 2.0 asp.net website, I want to change it's framework version to 3.5. Is it possible to do this manually from web.config file? I don't want to change from visual studio property pages. I need to change from web.config, what should I do?
View 2 RepliesI am developing a .NET 3.5 web application. We are using some of the Microsoft Reporting tools, which are a pain but a digress, and when I deploy, I get errors when trying to load the site.
This is the error:
[Code]....
However, my web config reads:
[Code]....
I specify 9.0.0.0 in everything. The only concern I have is that the build server uses .NET 4.0 but I have specified to build with 3.5 and on my deployed server I have the 9.0.0.0 dll files for the report viewer. why the server is looking for 10 when everything says 9?
A ASP website, which is created in VS2003 is opened in VS2008. The project is migrated and some changes are made. A new setup is created.
The new installation does not work because Framework 3.5 SP1 is needed.Is it possible to use Framework 2.0 instead of 3.5?I tried to go to the property page and change the target framework to .NET Framework 2.0 on the Build tab.When installing the website it stills asking for
Framework 3.5 SP1.
I am not able to run the tutorials because I don't have SQL express.
I am talking about The Entity framework tutorials.
The original connection strings:

How do you go about changing your asp.net version from asp 2.0 to asp 3.5 ?
View 2 RepliesI have unexpectedly found that I cannot access my data tables from VS 2008. A window comes up saying "The server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL server 2005 are supported". Also, as a consequence I imagine, two web sites which refer to datatable have stopped working.
Has my ISP updated to an SQL version that VS 2008 can't handle ?
system requirements on installing MVC/jQuery in MS VS 2008 trail version.Do MVC/jQuery ships with VS 2008 Premium/Professional Trial Version? Or I have to download it separately.
View 2 RepliesWhich version of Visual Studio 2008 do you currently use with NHibernate? I would like to test out NHibernate at home, but I'm not sure if I want to shell out $500 plus for VS 2008 professional edition. Has anyone had any luck with NHibernate on VS 2008 standard or even one of the VS express editions?

View 4 RepliesI usually use WebMatrix to manage my database (sdf file). I wonder if it can be possible to manage this database with SQL Management Studio 2008? When I try to open it with SQL Management Studio 2008 I get the error:
Incompatible database version. What's wrong?
BUT When I create a new sdf database with SQL Management Studio 2008, I have no problem for open it again with SQL Management Studio 2008 but if I try to open it with WebMatrix it doesn't work...(server not found?)
I had web application developed in VS 2005 + Sql server 2005 + Ajax 1.0 Extension . (Developed in Windows Server 2005) Now i am migrating to VS 2008.(Windows Server 2008 + Sql server 2008)
After opening and compile my Existing application in VS 2008,i am getting error.
Errors :-
Unable to load file or assembly 'System.web.Extenstions'' version=1.0.61025. (I think it because of AJAX Extension version.So i installed AJAX Extension 1.0 but it will give me ambiguous error so i uninstalled.I am added reference for version=3.5.0 but again unsuccessful.) What i will do now? Also i used 'Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum', Version=9.0.242.0 in VS 2005. (Are i have to change it to version=10.0.0.0? by adding reference to new version.) I also used crystal report.(Is there is anything to do with it?)
As I'm learning the ins and outs of ASP.NET user management, I've learned that the default in VS is for it to use a SQL Server Express .mdf file for the data it needs to save. This won't help me for when I deploy my site, as I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 on my IIS 7.5 server. I know that I can run a command line tool to automatically create the db tables necessary for user management, and will do that on my development machine, but how do I tell my existing, in development code in VS to ignore the existing Express .mdf file and look at the newly created db tables?
View 1 Repliesnfortunately, I can't get my breakpoints to work when in debug mode in Visual Studio 2008 (ASP.NET 3.5, Windows 7, IIS7). The website compiles and opens in debug mode, but the breakpoints themselves generate the following error message:"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."There are some recommended solutions online, but for various reasons, either they haven't applied or I haven't been able to make them work. I've been trying to find the solution for about 12 hours now, and I'm getting desperate.(Note 1: This problem is specific to this website. I do have other websites that I open in VS2008 where the breakpoints work fine.)(Note 2: There is only one website/project associated with this problem. This website does not have multiple projects.)

Are the Crystal Reports objects within Visual Studio (I'm using 2005) the full version or is it a trial version that is missing features?
View 1 RepliesWe have an application that is already deployed in the production environment. And currently it is using Dundas evaluation version. We tried updating it to the licensed version by simply pasting the dll file. but we got the error message as "The file has not been pre-compiled and cannot be requested".
View 1 RepliesI have code that reads a value from a config file (not web.config) given a key. It looks like this:
Code:
Public Shared Function GetCustomConfig(ByVal ValuetoGet As String, ByVal ConfigFileValue As String) As String
Dim Returnvalue As String = String.Empty
LoadConfig(ConfigFileValue)
For Each KeyValue As String In AppSettings.Keys
If KeyValue = ValuetoGet Then
Returnvalue = AppSettings.Item(KeyValue).ToString
End If
Next
Return Returnvalue
End Function
So if my config file which is named my.config has this entry: <add key="TempArea" value="c:Temp"/>I would call GetCustomerConfig("TempArea", "my.config") and the function would return "c:Temp". Most of the time this is what happens. But sometimes I get an exception: Collection was modified after the enumerator was instantiated.
Is there a better way to get the value given the key? This is code written long ago by my predecessor, and I am not sure I want to use it anymore. If I do use it, I will have to do something so that it is more reliable.
I'm try to get my site to detect what browser someone is using to ensure they're using one that is compliant with our site. Everything works, except Firefox seems to post the wrong version in the Request.Browser variables.I'm on Firefox 3.6.10, but Request.Browser shows Mozilla 1.9.2.10. It's correct in the HTTP_USER_AGENT string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 YFF35 Firefox/3.6.10 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Is there a way to detect it better without having to parse through the HTTP_USER_AGENT string?
Is there any limit on the size/numbers in the version number of the FormsAuthenticationTicket.
I tried to create an ASP.NET cookie using forms authentication, with a large version number(ex: 1234567 need this number for identification purposes). But when I decrypt the cookie I get 135 as the version number.
Initially the old forms authentication cookie was removed, in order to add new information.
Response.Cookies.Remove(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName);
Following is the code I used to create the FormsAuthentication cookie.
FormsAuthenticationTicket newAuthTicket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1234567, un, DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddHours(5F), false, user_data);
HttpCookie newauthCookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(newAuthTicket));
Response.Cookies.Add(newauthCookie);
After retrieving the cookie, the version number I got was 135. This number varies with different version numbers.
string cookieName = FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName;
HttpCookie authCookie = Context.Request.Cookies[cookieName];
if (authCookie == null)
{
return;
}
FormsAuthenticationTicket authTkt = null;
authTkt = FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(authCookie.Value);
if (authTkt == null)
{
return;
}
int versionID = authTkt.Version;
Can someone let me know if it's a bad idea to use such big version numbers, or am I missing something in this.
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this workstation with SQL 2000, 2005 Express, 2008 Express and I think 2008 R2 (not sure if that is a version itselve or not)
I will call that workstation HOME
I created some tables in SQLEXPRESS through VS2008.
I worked on this project on another workstation that I just installed VS2008 annd SQLEXPRESS 2008 and I know that was R2
Installed Visual Studio 2010 trial edition between the thiem I made the tables on HOME and tonight for the first time since that install
I am now getting the "cannot be opened becuase it is version Version 661. This Server supports version 655..."
What to do now?
I can opened SQLExpress 2008 management studio and it is running.
So is my SQL 2000. The problem seems to be that after the VS2010 install neither VS2008 or VS2010 can connect to the SQLExpress 2008
What do I do now?
I can't remove sql 2000 because it is tied to several 3+ gig databases that will not work in Express.
