Anyway, I have a VB script for entering a row of data into a table by a web user. When this row of data is entered, I wish to take some of the values from the columns of the "primary" table, and have that data automatically create a new row of data in a "secondary" table. I think I'm part of the way there, here is my script:

"ProductsByMfr" is the "primary" table - the table that the user adds data into when the button click event is fired.
"DealerPricing" is a "secondary" table that I wish to have some of the data from the newly-entered row in ProductsByMfr copied into. Am I even close here?

In one page, a user can insert some stuff (name, phone .. etc) to the database. And then the user should be able to see the rows he added as a list automatically in a datalist (or other control). As he inserts rows, it appears in the datalist.
I tried to use update panel and inside it datalist, with a button as a trigger but it did n't work with me!

Feb 4, 2011I have an Asp.net page which requires certain sections to be partially updated automatically at an interval of 5 seconds. I was planning to use the good old Timer control with the AJAX Update Panel for this purpose, but after a bit of reading on this control i found out that it may have some problems especially if,
1) The time difference between the async event performed ( 4 seconds ) by the update panel and the Timer's tick interval ( which is 5 seconds ) are quite small, the update panel will be held up in the async operation all the time.
2) Also, the fact that timer control doesn't work very well with Firefox.
I just wanted to get your opinion as to whether if i should go ahead with the timer and update panel approach, write some custom javascript that does the partial page update or some other strategy altogether.

Jul 28, 2010There is a field called school which is a dropdown menu, I manually edit items and made it like these: select school, name of 6 elementaries and 2 middle schools, and a high school.I have another field called grade level, which is a drop down menu too, i manually entered the grade items for it: select grade, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3......12.
I would like after user selects a school in the drop down menu, the field called grade level dropdown box' data source will be updated according to school. For example, if it is a middle school selected, the data source of grade level will be updated to 6, 7 8 grade, if it is elementary the grade will be updated to 1, 2, 3, 4 5 etc. In this way later, when user goes to select grade it will show appropriate grade level lists according to schools.
C# - Cached Objects Update Automatically With The Object Updating?
Jul 2, 2010I found some code on the web and it threw me off. Look at the code below. You will notice only when the Hits == 1, does the cache get added. After that, the cache object isn't updated. It begs the question, does the object when updated, update the cache as well automatically? The answer here would make me remove some code in some of my classes.

Sep 6, 2010I have a web page into which a user control is loaded. This user control contains a ListView. In the Page_Load event handler of the user control I have this code:
listView1.DataSource = TaskList; // Note: "TaskList" is a data table
listView1.DataBind();
It should be noted that the TaskList data table is actually instantiated in the web page. The user control then obtains a reference to it.
Everything described to this point works fine. Where I'm running into trouble is when I add a new row to TaskList. I had *thought* that the ListView control was dynamically connected to the data table, such that when I altered the contents of the data table in any way, that the changes would be automatically reflected in the ListView.

Currently we are using an UpdatePanel to refresh the whole list on a certain interval so that changes from other users will be propagated the screen. Obviously this isn't very efficient and we don't think it will scale well.What are some other methods for accomplishing this. Is there a specific pattern for addressing this issue?

Jun 27, 2010I recently read Scott Mitchell's article series "Examining ASP.NET's Membership, Roles, and Profile". In Part 6 [URL] It says "to store additional, user-specific fields...If you are using the SqlMembershipProvider, this would mean creating an additional database table that had as a primary key the UserId value from the aspnet_Users table and columns for each of the additional user properties."
I created a table named Thread to store some specific users information and comments they make. I set the ThreadId as the primary key and the UserId as the foreign key to the UserId in aspnet_Users table. But when I run the application and use a user's account to submit a comment, there is an error in my Comments.aspx.vb page "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'UserId', table 'ASPNETDB.dbo.Thread'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.The statement has been terminated."
How can I make the logged-on user's UserId inserted into the Thread table when storing the user's other data information?

Sep 20, 2010I've got a single table, with project information and schedule information. To make the data easier to present, I created a tab control with two panels (a detailsview in each). The first tab is for project info, the second tab is for schedule info (again, all fields in the same table). The problem is, if i change info in both tabs, and then hit the update button, only the data from one tab is added to the table. I think this problem is simple to fix, and boils down to the way I have the page organized, but I can't quite figure it out.
I've boiled my code down to the following conceptualized structure:

When you click the update button, you return to the listview, but with only the information from your current tab saved. How can I get it to update from both detailsviews?

I'm using the ASP.Net Membership provider, but I don't want to allow system administrators to DELETE any users. How can I setup a diagram that would easily create a table relationship with the Users table, so that it automatically inserts the users username when they submit a new ad? If so, how? I've tried adding a UserName row to my table and creating a relationship with the Users table "UserName" row, but it wasn't accepting the relationship when I tried to save the diagram...apparently because the UserName row in the Users table isn't a primary key?
Also, one this is setup, what's the best way to provide the user a way to see a list of their ads and have the ability to edit them?
