Updating Properties Of A Class With Dynamic References?
Feb 17, 2010
I have a vb.net class with properties defined as follows:
Private m_Property1 As String
Public Property Property1() As String
Get
Return m_Property1
End Get
Set(ByVal value As String)
If IsNothing(value) Then
m_Property1 = String.Empty
Else
m_Property1 = value
End If
End Set
End Property
I can then set the values as follows:
classname.Property1 = "myvalue"
How do I set the value of a property that is defined dynmically eg
public class Foo { public String A {get;set;} public DateTime B {get;set;} // .. and other properties like public String Intern {get;set;} }
I'm binding that Item to a DetailsView in Editmode. (I bind a List containing a single object of Foo, becuase I do recall that I can only bind IEnumerable<> classes to the DetailView)The binding is done via a ObjectDataSource
I am currently making the switch over from Visual Studio 2005 to 2010. In 2005, you were able to right click on the 'web references' folder and update all web reference within that folder. However, in 2010 I cannot see an option to do this - I have to update each one individually.Anyone know of a way of updating web references in Visual Studio 2010 en masse?
I have a hundred or so .Net 1.1 legacy assemblies that reference the unsigned Assembly_A. I have no source code for any of these assemblies.
We have developed Assembly_B, which contains upgraded, backwards-compatible types originally found in Assembly_A. I want those hundred legacy assemblies to now reference Assembly_B.
I would really rather not use Reflector to decompile all these. Is it possible to use ILDASM to produce the IL for each of these legacy assemblies, update the references, use ILASM to create the new DLL, and pop the new version into the /bin directory?
Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:
[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService] public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public void save_client(aClientArgs client) { // Save client data } } Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class: public class aArgs { public string id = null; public string name = null; } public class aClientArgs : aArgs { public string address = null; public string website = null; } Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client> When I'm expecting the following: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <id>string</id> <name>string</name> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client>
So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?
I've got an ASP.net project with a folder containing some dll's. I have referenced the DLL's from the folder.
I've modified one of the DLL's (Added a new class). I get build errors saying that the new class does not exist. When I add the reference the build errors go away in the Error List window. However, When I build the project the errors come back again.
I've set up a test project and referenced the DLL's and can access the new class with no problems so I know the class exists in the dll.
Currently Tearing my hair out!
EDIT: Forgot to mention I've also checked the refresh files and they seem to be pointing to the correct location
I have a separate environment for development. On my production server, where we mostly host web applications, we deploy the precompiled version of the web project. While doing development I work on three projects. One is the WCF Service. Two, is the class library project. This library has classes which makes calls on the WCF service. And the third, is a web project which consumes the class library.
The last two projects come under one VS solution. I host the wcf service in the development environment. This service is added as service reference to my class library. I am unable to visualize what will happen once I add the DLL (viz output of the class library project) to my web project, and, the web project has to be deployed. At the time of deployment I have to change the service reference (the url of the svc file will change as it has to point to the production wcf service). How to go about this? What must I take care when adding the dll to the web project?
In reconfiguring my site, I have deleted a few class files that are no longer needed. Upon deletion, intellisense is showing an error:
Error 8 Type 'Class1' is not defined. C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Filesandersonwoodcrafts.com7a5f45392b25e40Sources_App_Codeprofile.cdcab7d2.vb 42 56 C:...andersonwoodcrafts.com
I have attempted to delete these manually from the file system, but it didn't correct this error.
I am having problems adding a reference to a custom assembly in my Bin folder within a controller class I am writing. I can see the dlls in the Bin folder of my Solution file and when adding a new 'using' block to the top of code page, its not picking up any of my assemblies as I try to spell them out.I tried just typing them in and building the solution, but I get errors, it just wont pick these up!
I have a GridView containing records from a table which can be deleted or updated. If you want to edit a row, it should display the update and cancel buttons so that you can keep or cancel the current edit (I hide update and cancel as default). I am using the following asp for the button column of the GridView:
<asp:TemplateField visible ="true" > <HeaderTemplate> <div id = "header">Maintain</div>
I am using Reporting Services to render a report directly to PDF. It requires that I use two web references: ReportExecution2005.asmx and ReportService2005.asmx. The performance on web references seems really poor. Since my web server (IIS7) and my SQL Server (2008) are on the same box, is there a way I can reference them directly? If not is there any way I can explicitly cache them or something. First load is really really slow, second load is perfectly acceptable.
I'm using VWD 2010 Express and have found that when I change a property like AutoPostBack from within the property window the corresponding tag (<asp:TextBox...>) was not updated with the property change to the tag.
Is there a setting that I can change in the VWD properties that will enable changes through the property window for a control to automatically update the HTML tag for that control?
Im just wondering how you go about creating dynamic properties on entities that generated from a database generated model.For example I have a UserInformation table. In that table it has basic information on the user (well derr) like user name, address details etc etc. I want to add a readonly property that concatenates the user's Name, Address details and Phone Number into one string that I can output to a view. Any ideas on how i would go about creating this dynamic property. This is just a simple example, i am wanting to do some more complex calculating and concatenating.
I get a javascript error that says the "element is null". But I don't understand why. I'm new with this control and calling a web service with the mpe. Can you see my error?I suspect my error is in how I have the dynamic properities set and not with the webservice itself but I don't see it.
I'm reading a bit of Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and following a few tutorials written in the book. In the very first tutorial, creating a MVC site for dinner (PartyInvites), I encoutered this problem. While I try to reference some properties from Model class, the compilation error occured. Eg. the following code failed.
[Code]....
and the error message
Compiler Error Message: CS1061: 'object' does not contain a definition for 'Name' and no extension method 'Name' accepting a first argument of type 'object' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I imported the Model folder into the controller too. I dunno what I'm missing here. Sorry, if it sounds a bit umm hard to understand cuz I just started picking up MVC this morning. Looking for any input.
There is a SearchPage which has a properties ErrorMessage, SuccessMessage etc. This is basically a MVP pattern so for each page(view) there is IView that contains definitions for all the properties
I am using decoratoe pattern to set these peoperties dependingon the message type. There is another Interface IBaseMessage which has a method DisplayMessage() and a class BaseMessage which implements the interface. This class has a definition of the view
I have added a static string variable inside a web page with it's class named VersionBase. The class is public, the variable is public, why can't I simply do VersionBase.MyString from anywhere inside the project like I can do with any other class?
I am interested to know what happens with unused properties of a class when an object is instantiated?
Are there performance hits for having additional unused properties? What about complex properties that are accessing the database, but I'm not using them, are they still being loaded?
I am successfully injecting base class properties with spring.net with just a class that inherits from a base abstract class. Lets say Class MyClass : MyBase, and I am successfully setting a property like this:
Where MyBaseClassProperty is a property on the base class. Now I have another abstract class between the old base class and the instantiable class and I am trying to set properties on both the abstract classes. So MyClass : MyNewBaseClass and MyNewBaseClass : MyBaseClass. I have an additional property on the new base class (MyNewBaseClassProperty) and I am trying to inject it like this:
The property on the old base class is being injected but the one on the new one is not - and I am not getting an error or anything (so I am pretty sure my config is good), that property is just null! I am on asp.net (not MVC) and the class MyClass is a user control (ascx).
In my controller have a FormViewModel which inherits from a domain class declared in dbml. In the constructor of the FormViewModel I want to do a shorthand assignment to the inherited class properties with the passed in object (ie thisPerson) without iterating through each property of the inherited class and assigning its value with corresponding property in the passing in object. Should I use super, base, this, or something else?
