Visual Studio :: Changes To Properties In The Property Window Not Updating In HTML Control?

Sep 26, 2010

I'm using VWD 2010 Express and have found that when I change a property like AutoPostBack from within the property window the corresponding tag (<asp:TextBox...>) was not updated with the property change to the tag.

Is there a setting that I can change in the VWD properties that will enable changes through the property window for a control to automatically update the HTML tag for that control?

MVC :: Change Properties Of Control On Button Click?

Feb 16, 2011

I am a ASP.Net Web Forms developer and new in MVC. I observed that MVC reccommend not to have code behind file. In Web Forms, we handle events in code behind then change properties of various controls there. How to do the same in MVC? For example, if I have to change back color of a label on click of a button then how to do this in MVC?

Web Forms :: Assign Properties For Button Control At Runtime?

Dec 5, 2010

I have a button in a details view that I want to change the properties of at run time. When the user clicks the edit button the details view goes into edit mode. I also want the edit button to turn into an update(or save) button so the use can click it to persist the changes done in edit mode. I've had to create a new instance of the button which I can do. I've done that with the cast below, I assume this is a good way to do this. I'm now having difficulty assigning the properties. I tried this but get a "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object" error. I thought I was working with an instance of the object in the code below, but the compiler doesn't agree. How do I set the text, and other properties for my button instance?

Sorting - Updating DataGrid To A GridView Control

Dec 1, 2010

I have a datagrid that is displaying data that is being returned from a stored procedure. That works fine. The problem is that I want to do sorting. I know that there is sorting functionality in the grid, however, I don't want to go back to the server and get a new set of data. What I want to do is just re-sort the data that is already being displayed.

Basically, I couldn't not find an easy solution to this issue. I tried updating my dataGrid to a gridView control and even that (for my particular issue) was difficult. I wound up un-doing all the changes and just adding another grid that had just the data I wanted for the requirement. If anyone else has an issue like this I would recommend taking it out of a datagrid and writing it in jQuery. I could of written a table that had the data I wanted (and fully sortable using a plug-in mentioned below) in 15 minutes compared to the hours I spent trying to jam a square peg into a round hole.

Forms Data Controls :: Setting Properties On Web User Control In Dynamic GridView

Jan 7, 2010

I am in need of some assistance in regards to how to best set the values of properties for a Web User Control which is being included into a cell of a GridView with dynamically created columns. I have tried a few different approaches, but can't seem to get a satisfactory result. Also, to be completely honest, I am not really sure if I am using best practices for what I am trying to accomplish.

First off a little background:I have a GridView for which we will never know the exact number of columns at run time. The columns are predicated by user selection. I am creating the command text for the DataSet on the fly and then looping through the columns of the resulting DataTable in order to use custom TemplateFields. This works ok for just printing out the row values but not so much for when I need to insert the Web User Control into a cell. The Web User Control is in essence a collection of image links which are used as a "Quick Nav" tool. I need to pass the values of 2 fields from each DataRow to the control via properties (for example, CustID and ProductID). I am using custom TemplateField classes inheriting from ITemplate for displaying my fields and extending the DataBinding event like so: [Code]....

This won't work for my User Control as DataBinding is called after the control is loaded into the page and I need the properties to be set before the Page_Load event of the control is fired. Is there a GridView event I should be looking into instead such as RowCreated or RowDataBound? Or should I modify how I loop through the DataTable by doing rows first, then the resulting columns as I've seen done elsewhere?

DataSource Controls :: Updating Database With Gridview Control

Nov 30, 2010

I am sure I am not the first to ask this question but I cannot find an answer in these or any other forums. I guess I am not wording the question right. In short I have a gridview populated but a database via an SQLDatasource. I have an Edit column in the datagrid and an updatequery in the datasource. When the Edit is click the line goes into edit mode, the user then clicks Update and I get an error. Could not find control 'DropDownList1' in ControlParameter 'Frequency'. The only complication is that there is a drop down control when the "EDIT" column is selected. The dropdownlist gets it list from another SQLDatasource. This all works fine. Here is the code snip:

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateEditButton="True"

Forms Data Controls :: Back Button Doesn't Go Back When Canceling / Updating Edits In Gridview?

Mar 31, 2010

I have a gridview bound to a sqldatasource with editing enabled. If I click Edit, then either Cancel or Update, the update or cancel occurs and the Edit button reappears. However, I cannot then click the browser's back button without having the Update and Cancel buttons reappear. A second click of the back button takes me to a state where the Edit button shows again, *then* another back button click will take me to the referring page (the one before the one with the gridview on it.) IOW, it looks like the postbacks are cached. How can I prevent this and have the back button go straight to the referring page?
