References To Dll's From The Folder / Errors Saying That The New Class Does Not Exist?
Oct 15, 2010
I've got an ASP.net project with a folder containing some dll's. I have referenced the DLL's from the folder.
I've modified one of the DLL's (Added a new class). I get build errors saying that the new class does not exist. When I add the reference the build errors go away in the Error List window. However, When I build the project the errors come back again.
I've set up a test project and referenced the DLL's and can access the new class with no problems so I know the class exists in the dll.
Currently Tearing my hair out!
EDIT: Forgot to mention I've also checked the refresh files and they seem to be pointing to the correct location
I am having problems adding a reference to a custom assembly in my Bin folder within a controller class I am writing. I can see the dlls in the Bin folder of my Solution file and when adding a new 'using' block to the top of code page, its not picking up any of my assemblies as I try to spell them out.I tried just typing them in and building the solution, but I get errors, it just wont pick these up!
I just downloaded entLib 4.1. Part of the download process included a DOS bat file that ran for a while. Being completely new to the Enterprist Library I have no idea how to use the Enterprise Library. Online support mentions something about accessing the blocks through the References folder in the Solution Explorer - but I don't have one in my solution explorer. How do I get the References folder to appear so that I can start figuring out how to use the application blocks?
I have a vb.net class with properties defined as follows:
Private m_Property1 As String Public Property Property1() As String Get Return m_Property1 End Get Set(ByVal value As String) If IsNothing(value) Then m_Property1 = String.Empty Else m_Property1 = value End If End Set End Property
I can then set the values as follows:
classname.Property1 = "myvalue"
How do I set the value of a property that is defined dynmically eg
I have a separate environment for development. On my production server, where we mostly host web applications, we deploy the precompiled version of the web project. While doing development I work on three projects. One is the WCF Service. Two, is the class library project. This library has classes which makes calls on the WCF service. And the third, is a web project which consumes the class library.
The last two projects come under one VS solution. I host the wcf service in the development environment. This service is added as service reference to my class library. I am unable to visualize what will happen once I add the DLL (viz output of the class library project) to my web project, and, the web project has to be deployed. At the time of deployment I have to change the service reference (the url of the svc file will change as it has to point to the production wcf service). How to go about this? What must I take care when adding the dll to the web project?
In reconfiguring my site, I have deleted a few class files that are no longer needed. Upon deletion, intellisense is showing an error:
Error 8 Type 'Class1' is not defined. C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Filesandersonwoodcrafts.com7a5f45392b25e40Sources_App_Codeprofile.cdcab7d2.vb 42 56 C:...andersonwoodcrafts.com
I have attempted to delete these manually from the file system, but it didn't correct this error.
I have a current file upload that works but I have to make sure that the SupplierImage folder is created. I would like for the upload to create the folder if the folder does not exist. Here is my code
im trying to set some session state variables but im getting back the error:Error 3 The name 'txtFirstName' does not exist in the current contextHere is what I added into the event handler of a submit button
while i was typing this code, the text field names such as txtLastName were popping up in intellisense, so that would lead me to believe that they ARE in context, but im still getting this error. I've also tried:
I wasn't sure which subforum to post this in as it appears to be a complex widespread issue. I have a WebApplication that was mostly coded in VB but had two C# classes and everything was working fine and it was created in VisualStudio 2005 as a Website. I finally finished converting the existing WebApplication as it was to C# and everything compiled fine. Trying to organize and such I created new Classes, DAL and BLL and migrated the existing classes into the appropriate location. Still compiled fine. Here's where the problems started.
Wanting to move from a Website to a Project, I created a new project WebApplication and migrated all the files from the Website into the Project. I re-added the references to the classes and .Net components and updated all the project settings to mirror what was in place before. Now when I try to compile. BAM. 171 Errors, mostly "The name '' does not exist in the current context." It appears most of them are in regard to Profile or accessing page components (Labels, Textboxes, etc) I can provide more detail about specific errors if needed but I was hoping maybe I just didn't do something incorrectly when moving to a Project from a website.
I am using Reporting Services to render a report directly to PDF. It requires that I use two web references: ReportExecution2005.asmx and ReportService2005.asmx. The performance on web references seems really poor. Since my web server (IIS7) and my SQL Server (2008) are on the same box, is there a way I can reference them directly? If not is there any way I can explicitly cache them or something. First load is really really slow, second load is perfectly acceptable.
I'm trying to add a `Class` to the `EditorFor` Helper inside an `EditorTemplate`.
The problem is that because I'm using Unobtrusive Validation, the input element already has classes assigned to it.
Here is my EditorTemplate
[Code]....
And here is the output <input class="text-box single-line" id="BirthDate" name="BirthDate" type="text" value="08/08/1980" />
You can see here that the `datepicker` class has not been added, yet the "value" has been properly formatted.
Basically I can see that the `EditorTemplate` is working, but the `Class` is not being appended to the rest of the classes on the `<input>` element. Do any of you know how to fix this?
This is the error i'm getting while try to view class diagram, any suggestion. Some of the seleced types cannot be added to the class diagram.Checks the code for errors and ensure that all required assemblies are referenced.
I lifted some nice code to handle memberships, but I want to add a customer specific field. My issue is how to reference my class from the inline c# code.
[Code]....
The problem is the line csUserProperties.AddNew(intUserId, lngCustomerId); -- I get the error "The name 'csUserProperties' does not exist in the current context. I have <%@ Import Namespace="csUserProperties" %> at the top of the file. I also tried everything with no namespace in the class below.
In that i have a seperate class file(.cs). I want to instantiate that class inside the aspx.cs file. I'm able to do that if i put the class file in appcode folder but not able to do if i place the class file outside the appcode folder. kindly let me that whether is it possible to instantiate a class that resides outside the appcode folder?
I have a PlannerShiftView user control in the root folder of my ASP.NET web site. In my App_Code folder, I have a ShiftViewTemplate class that needs to instantiate a PlannerShiftView (for a TemplateField in a GridView). The problem is, the following code doesn't compile because the PlannerShiftView type is not available in what I deem to be the App_Code 'phantom namespace'.
Please can somebody explain to be what is happening here, as well as what to do. I know I can just move the ShiftViewTemplate out of App_Code, going against convention and without explantion, but that is something of a hollow victory.
I guess I might be missing something easy (or not) here. I have a class in App_Code which do some validations over Session and Request.Url, till here it's working fine. But then I need to get the actual page title. I know it's simple to get it in the page's code behind, but could I get it in a separate class like it is on my scenario?
I have a single project. and I have two folder in it. In the 1st folder I have a class named Class1 and in the 2nd folder I have a class named Class2. Can anyone tell me how I can access members of Class1 in Class2. I have tried by adding namespace in Class1 and Using that namespace in Class2. But it is giving error. It is easy to access classes or their members from App_Code folder. I don't want to put my classes in app_code folder.
I have a C# web forms ASP.NET 4.0 web application that uses Routing for URLs for some reason custom errors defined in the system.web section of my web.config is entirely ignored and it will fall back the IIS errors.
This gets entirely ignored
[code]....
This would be a minor inconvenience except that by the fact it falls back to IIS native instead of my application it completely circumvents Elmah logging my 404 exceptions correctly.
Or any class that's not X.aspx.vb. I've imported the Globalization, Threading, Threading.Thread, and UI.Page namespaces. But it won't come up in Intellisense and it gives error lines in my code. Is there a way to access use the GetLocalResource("Y") method in other classes?
I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>.
My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder.
I have created a simple ASP.NET Website in Visual Studio 2008. I have a static C# class (lets call it someClass) contained in a separate file in the App_Code folder. I call a method from that class in my page's code behind like so:
someVar = someClass.someMethod(someParam);
This compiles correctly in VS 2008 but when I move it over to my IIS server, I get the following error (CS0103): Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately. Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'someClass' does not exist in the current context I have created a virtual directory for this website enabling 'Read', 'Run scripts (such ASP)', and 'Execute (such as ISAPI applications or CGI)'. I am not currently utilizing namespaces (as I thought I would not need to and I'm not sure how to use them properly). What am I doing wrong?
When I make an asp.net web application and add class libraries to the solution, the website project itself has a folder with the same name/contents as the class library.
Eg I make a web application called Test, add a project which is a class library, to the solution, called testAbc, and then there is a folder at the root of the website project called testAbc with the contents of the class lib.

I read why this happens in a book a while ago but can't quite remember now.
