I notice a user tries to hit backspace of a field that is read only and they can't edit, it works like a pressing the navigate back button for some reason.

I have textboxes that are dynamically set to read only depending on certain criteria. If the user hits the backspace key when focus is on a read only textbox it navigates back a page. I would like to disable this functionality.
View 6 RepliesI am working on an app and have added masked edits to some of the textboxes. On Google Chrome v6.0.472.62 the backspace button is inoperative along with the delete button. I have found no method around this. It also functions incorrectly on the ajax toolkit website: [URL]
Chrome is fairly popular and I doubt I can use this code with this issue.

I am new to developing. I am trying to defelop an application which deals with reading and editing a document.The updated document was stored in data repository in pdf format and it's path was maintaind in database. To show this document to user I am using ArrayList Which holds Image in binary format and it was assigned to Rad Binary Image "Datavalue Property". So I am getting well and I can able to show that document. Now My task begins... Now User can able to edit(i.e like Web Editor) that document that means commenting on words,MarkUps,Redo,Undo, creating new document,save,save as ..... like this. So how can I achieve this task? Can I do such functionalities on that showed document?

Say I have a DetailsView with a bunch of fields, and I want only certain kinds of users to edit a few of them. They're too few to split them into another DetailsView, so what I'm thinking is to find some way to only allow a user to edit them based on some code-behind logic, effectively making them read-only at will.
I feel it's important to mention that the fields are both TemplateFields, not normal BoundFields with ReadOnly properties. For some reason the required functions don't jump at me from reading the documentation. Oh and I need eveyone to see their specific values, I just want to restrict edit access to them.

I have a function that will take a file uploaded by a user of my system and store the contents of the file into a varbinary(max) field in a sql server database. I then display the filename of the file in a data grid for the user to see as a link button. When the user clicks on the link button, I want the file to be read from the database and served out to the user as a prompt to download the file. How can this be accomplished? The upload is fine, it is the download I can't figure out. Here is what I have so far.

It works perfect but, IF the Title field is zero and you Click EDIT LinkButton it throws an exception: Selection out of range Parameter name: value I would say that it's expected as zero index does not exist at the moment when i click edit button. I bind the combo from within RadGrid1_ItemCreated event.
I'm trying to allow logged user who are in department XYZ to perform some task for my third party App. I have two SQL tables named Users & UserList. The third party app (GoldMine) graps the USERNAME from the Users table and store it as UserID which I then referecnce SessionID. The UserList table has two columns (GM_UserName & Department) which I'm interested in. When a user login into the 3rd party app (GoldMine), i then compare the USERNAME (from Users table) to GM_UserName (from UserList table) and see whether GM_UserName is in = 'Dept XYZ'. Take a look at the SQL query below.

When one user login into the site and search for the particular products and edits the product and at the same time other user log in and try to edit the same product, i need to show the alert message, "the user (username) is already working on this. please wait for a while."
I have a gridview which contains a mix of boundfields and hyperlinkfields ..

How can I get the login username to be passed to a field in a gridview on edit or insert? Do I need to convert the gridview field to a template? I have been able to pass the login name to the database in a form by using "AddWithValue("UserId", Data.SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = User.Identity.Name" but I can't figure how to bind the login name to a template field.

I've got an AutoCompleteExtender on one of my pages, it seems to be working fine aside from this strange behaviour: Let's say I key in 2 characters, the suggestion list would display. When I press on backspace to delete those 2 characters, wait until the suggestion list to disappear, and re-enter those 2 characters, the suggestion list would no longer display (or sometimes would flicker for about a second after losing focus from the textbox) and I'll need to refresh the page just to get it working again.
However, if I do press backspace and delete those 2 characters but not let the suggestion list to disappear and re-enter new characters, it would continue displaying with correct suggestions. This behaviour seems to happen only in IE8, (although it works with IE8 using Compatibility View and Firefox)... My code is almost the same as the sample on this site except for the animations, and the service looks up in a database table.

I'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?

For ASP.NET, I'm using a DetailsView for insert and edit of a record. For edit mode I don't want to display the primary key field because it should not be changed. For insert mode, I want to display the primary key field because it doesn't exist and the user can specify it via a DropDownList that insures they will pick an unique value. A TemplateField is used in the DetailsView markup for the primary key field (hence the DropDownList for insert mode).
My problem is that I cannot get the primary key field to not display for edit mode and to display for insert mode. In the markup I have:

With the TemplateField Visible="True", the HeaderText="name" always displays which I don't want for edit mode.
